Log Cabin at the Presidio

My wife and I hosted our pre-​wedding rehearsal dinner hoe down at the Presidio Log Cabin on September 4^th. It was the perfect location! Susan from The Presidio Trust was an absolute joy to work with. We were able to accommodate a 7 person country western band and ~175 people with ease. The Log Cabin is truly a unique and rather undiscovered gem!

We had our wedding reception at the Log Cabin in the Presidio and it was absolutely perfect!!! The venue had a great intimate feeling, but had plenty of space for our 100+ guests, a dance floor, bar and all of the other «tables» that you have for a wedding. The patio area was great as well for the cocktail hour and you could easily do your ceremony outside, although we opted to have our ceremony elsewhere in the Presidio as we didn’t want to have to worry about inclement weather. From certain spots on the lawn area you can see the Golden Gate Bridge. You can also get a city view from afar. I communicated with Susan at the Presidio and the rental process was easy. Susan was great in answering all of our questions and setting everything up, including multiple visits to the site prior to the wedding! And as a bonus, the rental cost for this venue was well below ALL of the other venues we had looked at in the Bay Area. I wouldn’t have changed a thing going with this venue!

When first looking for venues for my wedding I was told to check out the Log cabin. I sent an email and they were having a open house the next week. My mom and I went to check it out and instantly I fell in love. The skyline of the city, the coziness of the inside, everything was just beautiful. They only had a few dates left the next year so I grabbed one as soon as I could. I worked with Susan through this whole process and she was so helpful. She kept me on track with paper work, answered all my questions, and met with me if I needed to see the log cabin. The only thing that I could say anything negative about was the parking situation was a little hard to figure out, but it all worked out and the night ended up being awesomely perfect and could not have asked for a more beautiful venue!

Came here for a wedding, the place has a vintage feel. I don’t think it’s really my type of place to host a wedding, but the wedding I came to was very chill.
I feel that finding the location might of been an issue, especially for the elders. The place looks nice at night more than the day. I think you get a nice view of the bridge, and you don’t need additional lighting as there’s lamps throughout the facility already.

Gorgeous venue! We couldn’t have been happier. Yes, they require you to use a full service caterer, but not a big deal since you will most likely use that anyway. Who wants to clean up on their wedding day. Rowan was very helpful and answered our questions every step of the way. He met with us and our caterer on site to go over logistics and using a caterer not on their preferred list was easy and they worked with you through it.
We had 150 guests and parking was not an issue. Was tight, but definitely workable. We rented the wood chairs and tables from them and were in great condition and affordable comparatively to other rental companies. Made it easier that they were just there when the caterer got there to set up.

Great place to hold an event. Lots of history. Good warm environment. Could not tell you a thing about the food (catered?) but a great history space.

We chose the log cabin for our wedding ceremony/​reception because it was a unique venue (we didn’t want the typical winery or ballroom) and it was reasonable priced unlike most other places in the city. Luckily, our wedding was on a rare, sunny day in the presidio but most days are pretty foggy there. Since the new Doyle Drive project, the road is much closer to the cabin and I wasn’t too thrilled with the traffic noise but the changes happened after we’d booked it. Regardless, it’s still a cool location. It has great views of the city and the fact that it’s a log cabin in the middle of the city, is pretty cool. Because it’s a historical building they have a lot of rules regarding decorations but I think we successfully transformed it into a cool wedding reception location with lights and lanterns. The two people I worked with to book the venue were very nice and accommodating, Shirley and Rowan (they quickly answered all my millions of questions) but the person who was working the venue on the night of the event was downright rude and unhelpful. Too bad because I would’ve given them a much better review if it weren’t for this person’s bad attitude. She was too busy watching the giants game to answer questions and be helpful. It’s your job, woman! do it!

Attended a Wedding Reception here, The way our host’s set up the space it was wonderful. It was a clear afternoon and there was a great view of the bay and the city from the south east side of the building. True to its name its a Log Cabin which means the building has a sense of Frontier America in a every log. (pardon the pun) To make your event come alive you will need to have a budget for decorations and lighting, So you can turn this Log Cabin in to a wonderful space for your special day.

The food was OK, the service was OK, the drink special of the day… not some much. everything was just OK, nothing too special.

I’ve been coming here for over two years now for quarterly work meetings and I always enjoy this venue. It is somewhat large (seating capacity around 150) and the views of San Francisco are breathtaking. The large grassy area is very well maintained and great for picnicking or just soaking up some sun on a sunny SF afternoon.

This is a beautiful, unique space near Ft. Scott in the Presidio.
Some parts smell a little like peepee but I think that’s just because the space is old.

This venue is beautiful! However, since it’s part of the historic parks of the Presidio, it is not the easiest place to host your wedding at.
The Pro’s:
Historic unforgettable building
Beautiful fireplace with a big mantel makes the whole space light up in a cozy warm light
The structure itself is gorgeous — large dark wood beams and big windows
Big rod iron chandeliers with candle lighting
You can use candles in jars as décor
The planning staff is wonderful. Rowan was our venue coordinator and he was wonderful. Very attentive and answered all the crazy questions I had promptly.
You can have your ceremony on the lawn out front for no extra charge
Cons:
The actual on-​site event staff was horrible. Nasty old witch that should be fired.
No bridal room so there’s no where for the bride to hide before the ceremony and no place for the girls to stash their things during the event
LOTS of rules and restrictions because it’s a historic building
A little pricey (came to about $ 4,000) considering there are no included amenities besides the bathrooms which are tiny
No kitchen, just a small prep area which makes it difficult for caterers to work there.
The Log Cabin sign does not exist anymore. It was damaging the building so they eliminated it without telling us.
Overall, the venue was beautiful and worked great for our event. We ended up with some amazing photos. If I had it to do over again, I would have chosen a place that was slightly larger, had a bridal room, nicer on-​site supervisor, and more amenities included.

Quite frankly, if I was to host an intimate dream event or if someone was to tell me I could make The Presidio Log Cabin my own home, my heart would pitter patter as if on the fringe of a middle school break-​up. Exaggeration aside, this venue is absolutely surreal.
Just imagine being closer. Closer than you’ve ever been before (in a very epic way). To the road that meets the end of the Continental United States. To the very last man-​built boundary between you and the next place. So there you are (views include lush, viridescent hills seeming (less)ly rising like icebergs out of the Pacific, water eternally wrapping beyond them) and suddenly there’s this cabin.
Oh this shabby old thing? Mighty majesty, yes. Yes. This shabby old thing. This blessing whittled from God’s righteous flute. The Presidio Log Cabin, dangling an elevated 250 feet above sea level, tucked away in a shady acre of grass, might be the most pimp cup venue yet. You might as well be in the clouds with 200 people along for the ride.

We got married here this May and loved the venue from the second we saw it! Actually, it was the only venue we viewed but we knew that it suited the kind of unfussy wedding vibe we were going for. Another selling point was the price which was a lot more reasonable than many other venues in San Francisco. It also is in a beautiful setting – the middle of the Presidio with partial views of the Bay and a giant lawn surrounding it. For us, this was perfect since we wanted to do a quick ceremony outdoors and at the Log Cabin, we were able to do that right there out on the lawn. Another selling point is you get 10 hours where other venues typically give you less or want to charge you extra. This was great since we wanted to have plenty of time for set-​up, the ceremony and reception, and break-​down. I really didn’t want a rushed party since I wanted to maximize my time to hang with friends and family (many that came from afar), and also have enough time for the dance party portion! I also loved the big white «Log Cabin» sign on the outside. So cool!
Christian, the coordinator with the Presidio that we worked with, was great and answered all of our questions and made sure we had all our necessary paperwork together and ready to go.
Some people complained about the fact that cabs don’t go up there to pick people up but we were advised of this well before the wedding so we were able to make sure our guests made arrangements.
In summary, I am so glad we found the Log Cabin and would recommend it to anyone else seeking a unique venue with a cool & rustic vibe!

This should really be a 3-​star review, because with no bar nearby, my company retreat being at this location made it damn hard for me to drink my lunch (note to any bosses reading this review – big joke).
Note to all Unilocalers – no, seriously, there’s no bar nearby. This is the tip of San Francisco, ol’ Frisco, with End of Land sadness. And it’s dry as a bone.
But, the space is cool. It’s a nice, BIG space, no break-​out rooms, but good for a large communal event or probably for a wedding reception, as well. The cutesy log cabin aesthetic is adorable, even if very dark, and the fireplace is a nice place to warm your tukkus when the weather is chilly (i.e. all the time, stupid San Francisco).
I’m knocking off a star because of the bathrooms – we had ~140 people, and there’s only one restroom per gender, and the men’s room is a urinal and toilet, but no stall, so most of the boys lock the door. I think the women’s had a stall, but couldn’t be more than two toilets in there, so the long lines to use the john during the breaks were rough. I can only imagine that it’s a nightmare if alcohol is introduced to the occasion, much less drunks sweaty from dancing and eager to get back to the action.
Pretty isolated, too. No bars, no liquor stores… come loaded for beer, because there’s no quick run down the street for provisions!
Okay, it’s good for a serious event, like a company retreat. But seriously – having to drive back out to have the post-​company meeting libation is a drag.

I really wanted to hold off on this review until the matter was settled but it appears that Log Cabin staff are not interested in discussing this matter or offering an apology, so here goes…
To make a very long story short, we had our wedding reception here. It was beautiful and fun. The very BIG downside is that although we rented the space until midnight, they locked our guests out at 11:30 pm as they waited for cabs, which are notoriuosly difficult to get at this location (even on a Thursday night, prearranged) Needless to say this seriously sullied the occasion for several of our guests.
This was all brought to the event staff’s attention a couple weeks later when they solicited comments about our event. When I complained, I got the response that the issue would be forwarded to management. I waited and waited. I wanted at the very least an apology but a refund for 30 minutes rental time would have been more appropriate. In the end, neither was offered.
I heard nothing for weeks. When I further inquired, I got the response that «it is our practice» to leave the venue open during clean up but once this is over, they lock and leave the premises. This all happened AFTER the event assistant on site new there were still guests waiting for a cab.
God forbid your friends need to come into the building that you PAID to rent until midnight and use the bathroom (which they did, only to find a locked door). The coordinator stated if we had asked they would have left it open. Bottom line: they shouldn’t have to ask and you should have left it open. They were locked out of the building with no cab in sight, a fact which the event assistant, by her own admission, knew at the time.
Finally a cabby showed up and shoved 9 people into his vehicle so as not to leave them stranded, which is more than I can say for the Log Cabin staff.
If you rent this space — don’t count on cabs finding it and don’t count on staff to be welcoming and helpful to your guests!

Very affordable, delightful, rustic location. Ample parking, private, lots of space, beautiful, big fireplace. It’s rustic, but festive, and just a great space. And there were WAGON WHEEL CHANDELIERS at our wedding. How awesome is that? The folks there were easy to work with, but it books quickly. It was a really nice oasis within the city. The only problem was getting cabs to come out and take our guests home. They wouldn’t come. At all. Luckily our resourceful friends figured things out, but just know that you should book a car or shuttle service for non-​drivers. Also, you have to be out by 11 PM, which sort of cuts the party short. But that can be a good thing! We solved that problem with an after party near the hotel at a bar!

Nice little location tucked away on the row of barracks, across from the softball fields. Kinda random — what log cabin needs 3 foot tall letters on it saying «LOG CABIN»? Odd. The front is log cabin but the back is mostly stone. It has really nice big windows that lookout over the bay and the back yard is surprisingly spacious if your event needs to have some sloshball taken outside.

I had my wedding reception for 120 guests at the Log Cabin on what turned out to be the coldest day in October in 2006 — Murphy’s law! We booked it before we had even been inside. After so many windowless, bland basement hotel ballrooms, just peeking through the windows of the Log cabin by moonlight was enough for us to decide it was perfect. It’s like a mountain lodge but in the city.
The indoor/​outdoor aspect was a huge selling point because we didn’t want our guests who smoke to have to miss anything. The evergreens and quaint row of matching houses outside are lovely although if they cut the trees down a bit you might get a nice view of the city too. The kids were able to run around in the grass to their hearts content, playing red rover for hours.
The interior is pretty nice and has a lot of character. The carpet is not spectacular but when you have bunch of tables you hardly see it. The dance floor is good sized and right in the center of the room so you don’t have major traffic flow issues. If we had more money I would have spent it on fun lighting but what they had already was just fine for us.
I can’t give it a 5 because the parking lot, trash dumpsters, and patio area outside are ugly and it’s the first thing people see when they arrive.
It can be hard to find, especially in the dark and the Presidio Trust warned us it might be hard to get taxis to come out there but many of our guests were able to but that might be because it was a Sunday.
And it’s a steal at the price, even better if you don’t do Fri/​Sat.

Back in the day when I forced myself to play softball so I could make more friends and meet cute boys, I fell in love with the Log Cabin. My friend /​caterer, Wendy (of Herbs and Spices) threw a few engagement parties from the outside BBQ area for our friends. At those parties I would peer into the window and imagine that if I ever got married, that would be the place. And lo and behold, 5 years later here I am.
It’s really a great setting — close to the city, but it feels like the middle of the woods. We’ve got great plans to work with the indoor and outdoor portions of the site. (S’Mores bar, roasting fire, rocking dance party).
The best part is the staff is super friendly and helpful and the prices are a bit lower than some of the other standard reception halls I looked at. Plus, not many people have hosted parties there, so it’s not like some other venues where you’ve been a million times and you can stand out.
