Little Nib – Recchiuti Confections

Super cute place for gifts for any chocolate lovers in your life. Be prepared to pay for it though!

Delicious salted caramel. Not quite as creamy as Frans in Seattle but this is the SF alternative and a darker, flatter chocolate (+1star).
This location is small (granted I have also been to the Ferry Building location and it’s of course larger). You may risk bumping into a stand or person if the store is full so be cautious. The salesperson is vv nice, but it’s hard I imagine to keep a conversation going with so many different people in such a small space.
Shelving is lined with the gorgeous boxes so I will say that packaging is lovely and the options are good for various levels of gifting (+2 stars). From this perspective and the pricing, this would make an equatable and likely better gift than say the G-​chocolate boxes you can buy at the mall. ;)
It’s interesting to note that this location doesn’t have the license to sell by the piece unpackaged so if you want a custom selected box-​full, go to the Ferry Building location. However they do sell two piece bundles of the salted caramel dark and the chocolate ganache for $ 4 (+1star). So I suppose for a sweet tooth, you can’t go too wrong.

So this is where it’s tucked away. We happened to walk by after having lunch on the corner. I immediately walked in. Took an quick look and decided on the box of dark chocolate covered malt balls. $ 19 for a 12 oz box. Decadent? Maybe. But it’s premium chocolate.
It’s been two weeks and I’m still going strong. You just need to pop a couple every so often.
There was a lone sales person who offered the four of us each a sample. Take one and then he’ll tell you what you selected. I got something with lavender. It was good but I’m more of a purist.
So if you happen to be in the Dogpatch district, swing on over.

This small confectionary has its shelved lined with all sorts of chocolate and chocolate covered things. There are boxes of chocolate assortments for purchase (no individual pieces) and the sole cashier usually offers some sort of sample. The time I visited, it was carrot cake… which was not impressive at all. There was something about this place that just was not cozy or welcoming. And it smelled weird. The chocolate is pricey, and the displays are not very appealing. Perhaps I’m just missing something…

If you love chocolate how can you not like this place? Picked up a box of the Fleur de Sel caramels which are great. I wanted to also pick up a bunch of the Force Noir truffles, but this store does not sell individual pieces – not surprising since this is a pretty small store. I will have to go to the Ferry building location to get this.
The prices are high, but the chocolate is awesome. Recchiuti really knows what he is doing.

I made a special trip to Little Nib to buy a gift for a coworker. It was Saturday, 12:20pm…imagine my surprise to find a note on the door saying «I am taking a short break, be back at 12:50». Really?! I had specifically googled the store hours before driving over there. After posting a one star review because of it, they contacted me and apologized and told me that a gift certificate would be waiting for me upon my next visit. I was not expecting that and was more than willing to give them another shot. Just went this past weekend and not only were they open, but super friendly and helped me to pick out a gift (which they wrapped in ribbon). The receiver of the gift absolutely loves the sampler of caramel chocolates that I got for her. I will definitely be going back to Little Nib for future gifts and also for myself.

Caramelia perles — dark chocolate with caramel pearls
Sesame nougatine — dark milk chocolate with sesame nougatine and fleur de sel
Orchard — semisweet chocolate with burnt caramel almonds, dried fruits and fleur de sel
Their other chocolates look delicious as well, too bad they don’t have samples! But then again, maybe it’s a good thing because I might just want to buy the whole store!

Buy the salted caramels! An easy stop to grab a quick gift.

We were on our own self-​guided chocolate tour and I have to say that service here was «meh.» Quality of the chocolate aside, there was not a lot of help in sorting through their selection, even when asked… and no samples at all. I don’t require samples, I’m just going to say that if you know their chocolate, you’re fine to run in and pick something up. If you don’t know their chocolate, then perhaps try the Ferry Building location… I have to believe the service is much better.

What a charming store next to Chocolate Lab. I just bought a box of key lime pear covered in bittersweet chocolate for $ 23! Madness! But it tasted evil good. Oh my goodness, I’m in love. Love can be expensive sometimes.

Im always walking by here when this place is closed. Coincidentally I came up early for a meeting in the area and got in right as they closed. Picked up a C3 pack of various salted caramels and the extra bitter dark bar. All are super tasty. I like that there’s a cool little store like this though in a somewhat off location. Though I guess with chocolate lab just down the way it’s not too far of a business decision.

The Fleur de Sel Caramel is life changing!
Caramel’s to the third power they say? You better believe it. The indulgent silky, creamy caramel inside and soft, rich milk/​dark chocolate with a touch of sea salt on the outside… will have you mmmmnnnn-​ing and oooohhh-​ing from the moment it hits your lips.
Their new dog patch location is not to be missed — they’re extremely helpful and friendly and make sure you walk away feeling better than you did when you got there.

glad they have this outpost of Recchiutti so I don’t have to drag myself to the Ferry building on a crowded Saturday to buy some chocolate!

Small chocolate shop that sells Recciutti chocolates. Prices were a bit high, but they had an interesting selection of chocolate gift boxes. Bought a whiskey tasting box for $ 25 for 9 chocolates to give as a gift. They also had a s’mores kit which looked fun. They give you free cocoa nibs to eat if you like those. They don’t sell individual chocolates though.

Must… not…walk…in…here. Chocolate is my kryptonite. Might as well just hand over my wallet and roll around in all that is their chocolate goodness. They have so much wonderful stuff in here that it is hard to walk out without three, four, maybe five different items that I know won’t last more than a day in my hands. Seriously, I eat chocolate like it’s water.
Did I mention I’m a chocoholic? Isn’t that the first step to recovery?
Seriously — if you need a chocolate gift or a chocolate fix — get in here!

Chocolate truffles for beer and whiskey pairings? Um, hello!
If only they were filled the aforementioned I’d be all over it (and they’d be long gone). All too dangerous though, so I’m thankful this is not the case. You pay a pretty penny, or more like a pretty shiny piece of plastic, for these babies.
Ample selection of truffles, chocolate filled, topped with sea salts, burnt caramel and holiday boxes. The Thanksgiving/​turkey ones are too cute.
Great for gifts or gifting yourself. Otherwise, feels a little too special for day to day with the exception of some of the bars ($ 6 a pop. Super reasonable for this quality)
Currently operating in the old Piccino espresso bar and likely to stay there (Thurs-​Sun 11 – 6 ish).
Sometime next year, they’re building out the address this is listed under (just a few doors down, on the corner in the old Piccino restaurant, currently occupied by a pop-​up clothing boutique.
The Dogpatch is finally filling out, not quite just a patch anymore.

Recchiuti just opened their newest retail location in the Dogpatch last Thursday. It’s a tiny shop – in the old Piccino coffee space – but a great addition to the neighborhood. Look for boxed chocolates at $ 25 and $ 45, with larger sets around $ 80. Unlike the store at the Ferry Building, they don’t sell individual chocolates here but they do have a few of the bars.
Can’t wait until their chocolate bar opens on the corner next year in the old Piccino restaurant location.

Okay, I’m doomed. Top notch SF chocolatier, Michael Recchiuti, just opened a little holiday chocolate shop around the corner from our place. We got a little treat, the Red Wine chocolate complement. Having a glass of merlot (Pepi Merlot 2004 — very good and I typically don’t like merlots) and sampling the chocolates. Fell in love with the Spring Jasmine Tea chocolate and it was the perfect complement for our merlot (that’s what MR recommends with it). The other two «tastes» are Star Anise/​Pink Peppercorn (super luscious) and Force Noir (delicate Tahitian vanilla qualities). I’m definitely going to be running a few extra miles each week now.
