Description

Specialties

My practice specializes in working with people impacted by either the family disease of addiction; impact of mental illness on the family or other trauma’s in childhood impacting adult functioning. The work is dynamic and therapy is only one modality clients are involved in throughout their work with me. Balancing life, authentically connecting with friends and loved ones, and most importantly staying connected to oneself while living life is a central organizing principal.

I also work with couples impacted by a traumatic betrayal in a committed relationship where the couple has opted to stay together and use this crisis as an opportunity to intimacy not previously experienced. Sex, romance and relationship addictions are not about intimacy, but about fear and fear’s companion, control.

Learning how to love and be loved is life’s greatest work. And one does not need to do this alone. I’ve been practicing in the field for 18 years and continue to love the work. LCS#20 593

History

Established in 2000.

I started my private practice after working in the field of addiction medicine for about five years. Having done a couple of years of individual psychotherapy in the mid-80’s prior to my own discovery of my alcoholism, I always wondered how different that experience might have been had I gone to an addiction medicine specialist. Additionally, having worked in a local HMO’s Chemical Dependency Recovery Program I noticed for some; individual psychotherapy could be used fruitfully to integrate and learn more about the family disease of addiction – while working a «primary» program of recovery. I’ve also experienced the polarizing effect of sex, romance and relationship addiction/compulsive behaviors around these that make intimacy a challenge for those in recovery. I have worked with many couples where sexual secrets were discovered creating lack of trust and the trauma of betrayal.
