Le Marcel Bakery For Dogs

Like most crazy dog moms, I wanted my pup’s first birthday to be special. I researched some local dog bakeries and finally decided on Le Marcel.
First, they should list their ingredients by product, not a «usual suspects» list of ingredients. How can you make an informed decision and avoid allergens when you don’t know what’s in each specific pastry? Nutrition facts would be helpful too, but I know that is rarely offered for pet pastries.
Ordering the cake was pretty standard, via website or phone for in-​store pickup or delivery. I told them the cake was for a party on Saturday, so they said they would make it on Friday to let it rest for consumption on Saturday. Sounds good.
I picked up the peanut butter cake after looking for parking for 20 minutes (I do not recommend driving alone or at all). That part of Union St. has a lot of boutiques and cafes, so it’s particularly busy.
I put the parking drama/​trauma behind me and opened up the cake for the big reveal and it looked OK, but with oil all over the box. I did not refrigerate it because I knew he was going to eat it within a few hours.
I finally presented it to my pup, fully expecting him to devour it… but after he licked up some of the ‘frosting’ from one corner, he couldn’t even bite into the core. It looked like a block of stale wheat bread. After he gave up on it, I tried to cut it up into small pieces and realized how stale it really was. I could hardly cut it with a sharp knife. The edges were like dried up rubber. Yum.
I can’t speak to their other pastries, but I would not recommend their cakes. He enjoyed the fusion treat I made for him using his greatest hits, much better than the $ 25+tax cake from Le Marcel.

Wow. This place is amazing. My first experience with them was not ideal but did they deliver on making it up to me. My dogs cake was shipped to me and it arrive in not the best condition although it still tasted amazing.
I emailed and complained about the condition of the cake and not only did they refund me for the cake but they sent my dog some extra treats.
I will be using them again.

The Marina is so fun to visit. So glad it’s doggie-​friendly and this bakery has yummy treats and toys for all sorts of dogs and dog-​lovers.
Every time we go, we always get some of the sweet potato bones that you can buy in bulk and a braided beef stick, very tasty.
Very pretty doggie cookies. They even have a special Barksgiving meal for the doggies. Maybe one day…

Yesterday I got two Halloween cookies here with my dogs names on it. It came out to almost $ 11. One of my dogs is getting really old & his teeth are falling out so I had to break up the cookie for him, but he only took a few pieces and didn’t want it anymore. My other dog took his entire cookie and swallowed that thing down. He loved the cookie. Woke up today and my dog that chowed down that cookie had explosive diarrhea, which is odd because he has a strong stomach and has never had diarrhea… Now I’m questioning what was in that cookie that gave my dog diarrhea.

I love to celebrate all my dogs birthdays as if they were my actual children. So everytime it’s my dogs birthday my family and I throw a little birthday dinner. I Unilocaled places to see where I can buy a soft dog cake BC my dogs have dental problems and it hurts them when they eat the typical hard cakes like their cookies. I’ve bought dog cakes here twice. The first time I bought a large bone cake and it was soft for my dogs. But the second time I bought the cake it was a bit hard and it felt as if it was sitting in their fridge for a long time. Next time when I order I’ll just make sure I tell them I need to get soft cakes.

Mommy is allergic to the Marina but since it was my birthday she made the much dreaded trip to Le Marcel Bakery For Dogs (we live in SF but it was nearly a 2.5 hour round trip including the nightmare parking). Earlier in the week, she ordered a Small Bone Birthday Cake for me in peanut butter flavor. She wanted to pick it up on Sunday but was told, «they were closed for an event» but judging by the other reviews it looks like Le Marcel Bakery opens and closes when they please which is a bad business practice. She was told to pick up the cake on Saturday before 4 pm even though business hours say they close at 7 pm on Saturday.
When we came home, Mommy and Daddy were super excited to cut my birthday cake for me. However, they made me wear this stupid birthday hat and pose for pictures first. I wasn’t having any of it so I paw’d off my hat and ran underneath the bed.
I could hear Mommy dropping f-​bombs in the kitchen when she was trying to slice my cake. She was telling Daddy that there were cracks in the icing and that the cake looked old. There were more f-​bombs as she wasn’t able to slice a piece. She made Daddy saw off a slice and the icing had crumbled off the cake:

My name is «Tater Tot» for a reason. I’m pudgy and love to eat. So when I heard Mommy put a plate down outside, I scurried out and saw what looked to be crumbles of my birthday cake. I smelled it and… NOPE, not touching it.
Mommy was very upset that she was sold an old cake that she had to feed to the compost bin. She thinks they bake large batches of these cakes which they freeze. When an order is placed, they defrost the cakes and write a greeting. It looks like this is not an isolated incident per other reviews as other furparents were also sold an old cake, and even moldy treats. Absolutely unacceptable.
Mommy and Daddy were adamant about re-​doing my birthday so they found another dog bakery (Paw Patch Pastries:
) which was infinitely better. They ordered a Duck Confit Doggie Birthday Cake that was baked to order, very yummy, and twice the size so I can share with my furbuddies at the dog park:

Oh but I did eat the doggie cookie sammie that Mommy also bought from Le Marcel Bakery that night but it gave me bubble guts. I sat on Mommy’s chest while she was watching tv and played anal acoustics. She wasn’t too happy but that IS what she gets for picking a place that sells old doggie cakes and making me wear that stupid hat. *Evil Laugh*

I wanted to like this place. I really did. Because how many bakeries are therefor dogs? And my dog is like my precious daughter. So for her 2^nd birthday I wanted to get her a special cake. For her first birthday I actually baked one for her myself. So the day before I called in to order a cake so I could just go in and pick it up. I wanted it to say happy birthday Audrey. That’s my dogs name…
And I said ill be in the next day at a certain time to pick it up… Simple enough right?
Well when I showed up at said time, the guy there looks around and doesn’t know what’s going on. I told them I called and ordered a birthday cake with writing on it. I wait about 10 minutes. I think they picked an old cake and had to write everything I it then. Which took a few more minutes.
What’s the point of calling and ordering ahead if they’re not going to get it ready.
When I went outside I had a ticket on my car. Great. I should have put more money I the meter. When I got home and tried to cut the cake it was so stale I had to basically saw it to get small pieces. I fed her the cake for 2 days and had to throw the rest away because after 2 days the cake was so hard it was like cardboard.
For $ 25 fora cake I wanted it to be fresh and good but it came out stale. It looked pretty. And my dog ate it. But the service and the wait and the fact that I got a ticket far from took away from this whole process.
I could cook a better cake myself that my dog would love just as much and save money and deal with better customer service.
I’m sorry Le marcel bakery for dogs. You have disappointed me and let me and my dog down.

Le Marcel was the absolute dog bakery. Gabe our little Papillon was turning 12. He and his older sister Haley, 13 yo Papillon just loved the cake. Due to their size, we froze some of the cake for a later date. The staff were so friendly and were so prompt. Thanks!

I came here on a Sunday at 3:45 and I was going to get a cake for my Yorkie for his 2^nd Birthday, but they were close. WHY? It says you guys are open until 6pm? Not cool. I drove out here for nothing. Thanks alot.

I called around to many places to find the best dog cake from here all the way down to Sacramento for my pup’s 1^st birthday… because my dog has a sensitive stomach, I wasnt sure if it was a good idea. I asked each place I called how they made their cakes. Le Marcel didn’t have too many ingredients like other places had. They also were able to have it done the same day unlike other places which was great because I was going to be in San Francisco anyway. It’s hard to find parking in this area so I was a few mins late but they waited until I got there. My dog is very picky with dog food/​treats but she LOVED the peanut butter cake & no upset stomach. It looked great, too! I also got two treats, the cheese star cookie and muttwich, my baby loved them both! Cake is 5 inches.

It was my baby’s 6^th birthday, and it was just something about him being older than I could count on one hand that made me want to go all out for him.
I googled the nearest bakery for dogs for me, and found Le Marcel Bakery For Dogs. I was so excited to head out into the Marina district and grab a cake for my son! (dog parents, you get me right?)
Their hours say they open at 11, but this particular day they opened a little later, due to whatever reason or circumstance. I ordered the peanut butter bone cake (pictures to follow) once I made my way there, and they customized the cake with a happy birthday greeting, and everything! The small bone shaped peanut butter cake came out to about $ 25+tax. You do have to let it sit in room temp for a few hours (at least 4 – 5) before it’s edible for your bebe. The cake is good for a week, as long as its in the fridge. Also, it can feed up to like … 6 dogs depending on the size of the slice.
Definitely going back for anymore of my dog bakery needs! Thanks LMBFD!

Love at first smell. Not only French but of course a bakery, and for dogs. What a fantastic find. A bit expensive but worth it. I bought 3 beautiful cookies. They even put the dog’s name on each. I will be back.

Le Marcel Bakery is awesome! It’s the only all-​natural, homemade dog treat store in the bay area. Woot!
Little Katsu loved the peanut butter cake (who wouldn’t)! It’s super soft and just a big winner.

My dog’s first birthday was coming up and I suddenly found myself becoming one of *those* crazy dog owners. I had to celebrate with a cake! I decided this first year I was going to buy one and then I’ll try making my own cupcake ones from then on. I ordered it online and picked it up in person. The people I interacted with were all super nice and helpful. The cake looked great but let’s be real, I was probably more excited for the cake than my dog. My dog would’ve been happy with anything.
I was super excited to give it to my dog but unfortunately he was scared of it at first. Eventually he got over it and had some but he wasn’t super excited about it. He’s a picky eater though and usually only likes meaty treats so I wasn’t surprised. Even though it wasn’t my dogs favorite, I’d still recommend this doggy bakery for anyone with a dog who would like such things. The prices are a little high but expected for a fancy bakery catered to people willing to spoil their dog.

Very nice place. It is very clean which is what I like to see from a bakery. Everything looked like real human cookies, cakes, baked goods, etc.
It was my dogs 1^st adoption anniversary and wanted to get a cake to celebrate with his friends. I randomly Unilocaled and found this place. Everything was nice and the staff was very courteous. They answered all my questions and gave suggestions. They also have a store inside for animal clothes, toys, accessories, etc. My dog and his friends loved the cake and treats. I even tried some for the heck of it since the baker said it was safe for humans LOL. The carob tasted just like chocolate, but not as sweet. The cake itself was tasteless, just the way the baker described. All of the dogs scarfed it down. It is a little on the pricey side but how many places do you know make baked goods for dogs?
Anytime I have a special dog event, I will come back here. I overheard they offer ice cream for dogs in the summer. Definitely checking that out!

I’m not sure if it is the owner I’ve been in contact– but I’ve had a really great experience with this place. Initially, I had my dog (Teddy’s) birthday cake delivered– right before Christmas Eve (due to Teddy’s birthdaybeing on ¹²⁄₂₆). Well, UPS has smashed the box our cake was in, and I was devastated. The entire top of the cake was destroyed.
I promptly called the bakery at 6:58 on ¹²⁄₂₃ (luckily right in time before they closed for the Christmas holiday) and the contact person was really apologetic. I literally emailed photos of the smashed cake right after we hung up. The next morning (Christmas Eve) I get notification for a shipment and an amazing note for Le Marcel! They shipped Teddy a new customized HUGE cookie bone that says «Happy Birthday Teddy» and a wrapped box full of goodies! This was extremely thoughtful.
On the cake side– it must have been delcious. Teddy is not normally super obsessed with food, however, with his peanut butter cake– he almost refused to share with his doggy siblings. I will definitely be ordering from here again– yearly for Teddy’s birthday and for any other occasions. Both the food and the people are lovely.

Such a cute store! My co-​worker wanted to go into the shop while we were in the area for the Union St Festival to grab treats for her dog. Bulk treats in the front, individual freshly baked treats in the display case, and dog accessories in the back room. Many of the treats range from $ 1– $ 4. They do doggie cakes, cupcakes and they even have doggie beer! I love how you can even see some of the treats cooling in the racks behind the counter.

I think it was the owner behind the counter when we visited the shop. He didn’t push anything nor make us feel rushed as we browsed through the store. He wouldn’t have need to push anything though because all of the treats look so yummy like real human desserts! Some looked even better than some bakeries I’ve been too. ^^;;
My co-worker’s dog completely devoured his treats in seconds and looked very happy doing so. Definitely doggie-​approved!

This place is so cute! If you’re a crazy dog lady like me, this is the perfect place to get treats and birthday stuff for your dog. After looking at pictures online I was set on getting my dog the small bone birthday cake, however, this looked a lot smaller in real life so I decided to get a raw hide braid, a personalized dog birthday cookie, a dog beer, and the peanut mutter bliss bar.
The only downside I can see is that the peanut mutter bliss bar was wrapped in some parchment paper instead of being in a box and the carob and other toppings started to fall off in the bag during my bus ride home :(
Other than that, I highly recommend this place!

I happened upon this place when I was window shopping one Saturday afternoon on Union Street. How cute are all these yummy looking treats? I bought one black and white cookie that’s $ 2 a piece and gave it to my friend’s dog. The guy working there told me this is made of garbanzo bean flour and no chocolate or sugar added, even though it looks like it’s a butter cookie dipped in chocolate. Being that both my friend and I are dessert persons we could not help but each had a bite of that cookie before giving it to her four legged friend. It tasted great! Slightly sweet and very soft and slightly crumbly. And it’s healthy for humans too as it’s made of garbanzo bean flour and no sugar added. This a gourmet cookie for dogs and she loved it too! I am not ashamed to say that next time I might just get a few for myself too!
