My name is Kathryn Rummel, and I am a passionate and driven Photographer and Multimedia Artist.

I have always had an affinity for the art of documenting beauty, which is where the evolution of fine art portraiture, fashion and wedding photography came into play. With a keen eye, I watch for moments of intimacy, truth, wit and beauty. Rather than simply recording events through a series of images, I approach each event and/​or subject matter as it’s own unique entity. As a Fine Art Wedding and Portrait Photographer, I am committed to truly embodying the sentiment, authenticity and unique energy of each individual I work with.

I also specialize in commercial, editorial and documentary style photography (i.e. food, restaurants, community based events etc. — please see my site!).

Sincerity of intention and truly loving what I do, results in imagery that is rich in emotion, texture and grace. Provoking thought and feeling is what I do… and it is what I love.

History

Established in 2007.

I began photographing at a young age, spending hours with my Canon AE-​1 and developing in the dark room. My career unfolded naturally towards the end of college and has evolved immensely in the past 5 years.

My name is Kathryn Rummel, and I am a passionate and driven Photographer and Multimedia Artist.

I’ve been surrounded with perpetual creative energy and support throughout my life. Having developed an entrepreneurial spirit at a young age, I’ve been an aspiring artist since my early adolescence. Discovering my passion for Photography came naturally as I began to realize that I could take moments out of time, simply by holding them still.

Traveling and photographing abroad has helped me gain a rich appreciation for unique perspectives and the endless spectrum of imagery available to the naked eye. I strive to captivate emotion, providing imagery that provokes feeling, kindles memories and depicts a precise moment in time, «a good photograph stops a moment from running away» (E.Welty). I try to bring this inspiration and enthusiasm into every project I do, making sure that I’m pouring everything I have into my work… all of the time.

After months of looking, we decide to hire Katie to take our engagement and wedding photos. From the first phone call, Katie was very nice, accommodating, understanding and personable. We had a tight budget and Katie was very accommodating and willing to work with our budget. When we met for the engagement session, it went very well. She was very easy to work with. She has great ideas and is also willing to listen to any ideas you have for the photos. My fiancé is not a picture person at all but he thought she was nice and easy to work with. We just received our engagement pictures and they looked great, we loved them. She captured everything perfectly and the lighting and angles were great! It is the end of the year and she is so busy but she still delivered our photos on time as promised. We really appreciate it. We are really glad we hired Katie and really looking forward to working with her during the wedding and possibly for all future picture sessions :)

Five stars just aren’t enough when it comes to my experience working with Katie! From our first conversation on the phone, I knew that she would be the perfect fit as my portrait and yoga photographer. Her accessibility and cheerfulness put me right at ease, and she really listened to my ideas and offered great feedback. Within minutes of meeting, we had a great rapport and a natural rhythm together. During our whole shoot, it felt like I was hanging out with a friend — who just happens to be AMAZINGLY talented and has such an eye for great lighting and composition! She took me to Golden Gate Park and chose the most beautiful spots for each round of photos. While she is always professional, there was a lot of fun and laughter throughout the day as well.
When I got my photos back, there were so many outstanding ones that I had a hard time choosing. One of my favorites turned out to be a shot she captured within the first ten minutes we spent together, proving that she really does know how to bring out the best in her subjects. She’s especially seasoned at working with athletes, dancers, and yogis, recognizes proper form and knows how to catch that «wow» moment that is often fleeting. I couldn’t recommend her more highly!

Katie is an outstanding wedding photographer! She connects with couples and their guests and creates real genuine smiles with her easy going personality. Her pictures are soft, bright and absolutely lovely from getting ready in the morning to dancing at night. It was an absolute delight to work with Katie!

This review is long overdue. We were married over a year ago and I should have written earlier in praise of Katie. Our wedding was a small intimate affair in Orinda. We wanted an unobtrusive photographer who could be there without being in our face, lining people up to take the zillionth posed photo. What we got in Katie was exactly what we had hoped for and more. She managed to quickly and efficiently get our must-​have posed shots out of the way. For the rest of the night, we had to trust that she got it and would come through for us. We had asked for a combination of candids of the guests interacting, of us doing various things, the food, the cake, the rings … Without us having to give her an exhaustive list. She delivered. That takes a great eye, listening to your clients, being truly present at the event and having superb photography skills. I would highly recommend Katie for your wedding, though I am sure would be great at just about anything that involves a camera. Thank you Katie for a splendid job. N

I can’t say enough about Katie and her talent! Katie shot both our maternity and newborn photos and my husband and I are so pleased with the results! We wanted something simple and natural and Katie delivered exactly what we were looking for. She really took into consideration the esthetic I was looking for. She’s professional yet fun; a breeze to work with. Of the categories available to rate Kreate Photography, it’s extremely hard to pick just one that stands out as the best. Quality is incredible. Professionalism has never been embodied so truly. But I think for our specific, chaotic, «loosely planned» wedding, Katie’s flexibility shone above all her other wonderful attributes.
We are two people who don’t know how to pose for a picture, and the idea of having my picture taken all day gave me extreme anxiety. Katie made it comfortable, fun, and natural-​feeling.
I was in absolute awe when we got our photos back– especially because we spent most of the time laughing, and I was sure I was blinking, accidentally-​drooling and/​or «thizz-​facing» the entire time. (see here:

Katie’s abilities to feel us out translated into photos that represent us perfectly. She also did a magnificent job of getting the «must-​have» shots and candids. All in all, Katie’s range both in her ability to work the room with a camera and in the style of photo she takes make her stand out above any photographer I’ve personally dealt with. Our engagement and wedding photos are more lovely than I ever could have imagined.

This review is long over due, however words can’t begin to describe how lucky my husband are I are to have had Katie document our special day as well as our engagement photos. Katie is naturally artistic and her creativity shows through her photos. Katie has such a bubbly outgoing personality and was more than a pleasure to work with. Every bride gets nervous trusting a vendor with their big day but Katie was one I had full confidence would capture every detail. Katie photographed our wedding this past June in Monterey and I cannot say enough great things about her! We had her do our engagement photos the year before and immediately realized that she was so easy to work with and fun to be around. I wanted someone who I felt comfortable with because in reality, you spend more time with your photographer on your wedding day than almost anyone else. They are there for all of your special moments and you want someone who you enjoy being around. Katie was definitely the perfect person for us. Our photographs turned out absolutely beautiful and she captured a few moments that I didn’t realize she was there for that literally brought me to tears. We received so many compliments from our family and friends about how great she was and how much they enjoyed her as well. While being exteremly professional, she is also equally personal and I cannot say enough good things about her! I would highly reccomend her to anyone!

Katie is an amazing photographer and so easy to work with. We used her for our wedding in May of 2013 in Santa Cruz. We got the most basic package and pricing was comparable with other photographers in the area. Just listen to her when she tells you where to stand and what background is going to work — she knows what she is doing! She captured each moment perfectly, particularly at the reception where she captured the events and reactions from all angles. She made it look so easy to tell a story with the pictures. Katie worked quickly as well, which allowed us to spend lots of time with family/​friends instead of time taking a bunch of posed pics.

Katie took charge on a photo shoot for my clothing boutique, starting by helping source great models, which I wasn’t expecting, and then setting a productive pace throughout the entire process. She has the valuable skill of knowing when to let the creative expression flow and when to step in and collaborate to get the job done.
Overall a very professional photographer who knows the ropes, uses time effectively, and works to get the right images. I enjoyed the whole process and would love to work with her again.

Katie was my photographer for my wedding in Soquel, Ca this year. Me and my husband were amazed at the creativity and passion she showed for photography. She was easy to work with and I wanted her to take full direction on the photos, so I let her use her artistic perceptions and was positive she would impress us. And she did! The photos were artistic and captured the happiness that was had that day. I was truly impressed with the uniqueness of the photos, I was amazed and even asked myself, «how did she do this?». I would recommend her for anyone wanting a personable photographer (and goes out of their way for their customers!) and would encourage them to let her use her creativity and imagination, I hate to set limits on such talent.

It seems like everyone with a dSLR wants you to pay them to take pictures. Friends you haven’t spoken with in years will tell you, «Your weddings coming up, huh? Well I just got this new flash for my D80, and…»
Here’s the thing though. Photography, especially during events like weddings, is one of those things that takes a few skills beyond getting a great deal at B&H.
We all want our photographer to be artistic. But we don’t want a DVD full of close-​ups of hands.
We all want our photographer to capture every moment. But we don’t want Nana getting the paparazzi treatment and twisting her ankle on a cobblestone after being flash blinded.
We all want our photographer to chronicle the entire event. But we don’t want to have to wade through 5,000 pictures afterward.
So whether you realize it or not, we kind of have a long list of expectations for our photographer. Throughout every step of my own wedding, KReate Photography exceeded these expectations, often clearing bars that I had not even realized were set.
Creativity was expressed in both shot compensation and the touching up process. When we received our photos, many of the really great shots had three or four variants, with post-​production effects and filters adding whole new dimensions to the original (which, of course, was included as well)
During the event, shots were got without interrupting moments. A very underrated skill, but much appreciated.
Finally, the selection felt complete without being overwhelming. There had obviously been some culling and the result was two DVDs worth of memorable shots. 8 gigs and no filler, count me impressed!
AND ONE LAST THING! This probably can’t be overstated, but very cool not to get watermarks all over your photos either! So many places make you jump through hoops to get prints or watermark-​free digital copies.
