Korts & Knight Custom Cabinetry

we spent a fortune on cabinets from Korts and Knight for our bedroom remodel. the project took forever, and now we are left with wardrobe doors that scrape against each other everytime they slide over each other, and doors that dont close properly. I honestly feel we would have had better execution if we had gone to IKEA. Everyday when I open my wardrobe it grates on me that this element of our remodel spoils everything for me.

I worked with Susan in acquiring custom carpeting and drapes for a new loft I am settling into in San Francisco. It had been a pleasure working with her as she spent time analyzing the space and provided solid recommendations on what would work best in both materials and colors. Once we settled on the right choices, the process to have it installed went very smoothly. What was projected to be a 2 day job, Susan and her team were able to wrap up in just 1 day. I look forward to working with her on future projects and would recommend her to all my friends looking for custom work done on their home.

I recently completed a remodel of my house and worked with Spencer on the kitchen. Spencer worked closely with my wife and me on the design — meeting with us multiple times until we got something we were excited about. He put in a lot of work up front in design and planning which gave us confidence that we understood what was happening and when each stage would be completed. This level of detail and planning was not something I found in other companies that I worked with on other aspects of the remodel — for example, on the flooring and windows. Spencer put in the time and it paid off later.
During the project, Spencer communicated with us on status and timeline. I can gladly say we did not have to chase him down on anything — he was always available and reached out to us regularly. We were never unclear on any aspect of the project, which again I cannot say for my other vendors.
Another thing I appreciated about Spencer is that having been in the industry for so long, he has a wide breadth of experience and was able to advise me in other areas of the remodel, not just the kitchen. My experience is that it is rare to find someone who not only knows their business well, but understands enough about the industry to be a great all around resource.
We now have an awesome kitchen, and it seemed really easy. There were no problems — everything was planned and executed well.
Overall, I found him to be extremely knowledgeable, experienced and easy to work with. I would highly recommend this company for kitchens.

My husband and I worked with Spencer from Korts and Knight on our recently completed kitchen remodel. We had very definite ideas about what we wanted and Spencer was fantastic about integrating our vision into his design. It’s been some time now since I redid my kitchen, but I had a great experience with Korts & Knight. Some points:
— Susan did multiple iterations of the design until we got it perfect.
— She arranged for storage of my cabinets AND my appliances until my contractors were ready for installation.
— Installation was extensive and done perfectly.
I can’t recommend them enough if you are ready for top of the line product and service.

The folks at Korts & Knight are delightful people but unfortunately their excellence is in front work, not in execution. In my experience, once we fell in love with our proposal and signed on the dotted line, the problems started…
— The contract happened to be switched underneath me — We received one copy in email, but I was presented another to sign, which I didn’t notice until 3 months later when expensive things weren’t installed and I wondered why!
— It took over 6 months for the project to finish! Towards the end I had to email them EVERY SINGLE DAY to ask them for status and try to get them to come and finish.
— Additional items exploded in price once work was underway. E.g. I was told a support beam for our countertops would be easy, and would probably cost around $ 150 to add in. Once in contract without it documented, it was $ 629. This was not a change order. This was just a change in our negotiating position: We had already hired them.
That said, they’re really friendly (seeming) people, their pre-​contract prices are reasonable, so you may be tempted to use them. If this temptation swings you, please please please at least follow these points of advice:
— Make sure the contract encourages prompt completion of the project and follows California laws. In my case, only $ 446 was to be paid upon completion, the bulk paid before the cabinets even arrived on-​site. Consequently, it took over 6 months from the date of the contract until completion — probably because they already got their money!
— THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT! Bring a copy of your draft contract and make sure it matches the contract you sign at Korts & Knight. In our case, around $ 1000 of internal pull-​out drawers went mysteriously missing, and since I signed the contract without it, I had no recourse. You may even want to print the drawings yourself, review them thoroughly at home, and sign those.
— Do not use Korts & Knights for anything besides cabinets. You will have a much better experience if you handle or your general contractor handles countertops and appliances: Things will be scheduled promptly and/​or in tune with the general construction, you won’t have he-​said-​she-​said problems when it comes to property damage during delivery, and the price you’re quoted will more likely match what you pay. In my experience, we were ordered countertops for $ 5800, documented VIA EMAIL, they were delivered one month late (due to Korts & Knight mistakes), and ultimately the invoice came in at $ 7200 because Korts ordered a different countertop than we asked and didn’t inform us of the price difference. (We paid $ 6083 in the end.) Additionally, the appliance installers damaged our entryway and floors, but Korts claimed it could have been anyone, so we had our GC fix it for them. And the appliances weren’t even installed right. The fridge is tilted forward so it’s hard to close. There’s gaps around the range hood.
— ALSO IMPORTANT: Follow-​up all verbal conversations with emails with confirmation. You’re going to want documentation to cite when things go wrong. (But do be aware that they’ll often site conflicting «phone calls» or undiscoverable «emails» that you didn’t make and they can’t reference to their defense… so documentation only goes so far.)
As you can see, much of this comes down to me over-​trusting Korts, signing a contract which favored lax execution, and getting what I agreed to. This is my fault. This does not have to be your fault. Fortunately, Korts does have some ethics, and is a long-​standing company, so they did eventually get my project done according to the contract I unfortunately signed. But I wish I had done things differently, including hiring a different company.

— Interesting to note that he does not dispute that the contract was switched out underneath me. And I do have a printed contract, directly from him, that includes roll-​out cabinets and other improvements, for exactly the same price I paid.
— He offered that I come with him on a Saturday to build trim pieces for the kitchen he’s responsible for assembling. And this is a favor? For me to do his work for him? On my weekend? I did it, because it needed to be done, and Spencer wasn’t going to do it himself.
— I did insist on paying $ 6083 for the countertops, and not pay him a penny more, because he said they’d cost $ 5800. It’s disgusting he even attempted to profit for overcharging me by $ 1300. And you have no idea how he tried to sneak this past us…

I was looking for a company with a well established track record to help me create and install an exceptional contemporary kitchen in my home. I chose Korts and Knight who delivered a breath taking kitchen. Both of my two sisters subsequently asked Korts and Knight to design and install kitchens in their homes and they both experienced equally desirable results. For the discriminating home owner who is truly looking for their dream kitchen, calling Korts and Knight should be their first step towards making their dream become a reality. As far as my two sisters and I am concerned, Korts and Knight hit it out of the park for all three of our kitchen projects.

We hired Susan Knight of Korts and Knight because she had designed a kitchen for us in our previous home years ago. We were delighted to find that she was still in business but had relocated to SF. We do not have a large space and did not want to enlarge the space either. Susan tackled the task with energy and high spirits. She listened to our needs, evaluated our current setup and went ahead to create a kitchen of our dreams. She is thorough and meticulous, measuring and remeasuring. She has a flair for style but also gives a great deal of attention to efficient storage. She created the impossible for us, by giving us more counter space AND increasing our storage space. She used high-​end materials and the latest in internal storage devices. She purchased all of our appliances at a lower price than we could obtain. K & K provided us clear graphics and floor plans as the design went through numerous iterations. There was a major delay in our timeline because of seismic code improvements required by our community, but K & K hung in there with us and rescheduled installation when we had to wait for inspections.
Every cabinet fit perfectly, the Celestone counters were gorgeous and seamless. Susan is supported by a wonderful support team which includes her husband and son and a terrific installer, Hugo, who knows these cabinets backwards and forwards.
We couldn’t be more pleased with the final results. We recommend Korts and Knight highly and suggest you give them a try.

They were the first Siematic dealer in the US after all. But after searching the internet for their current listings, I found nothing that says they sell Siematic.
I delivered Siematic kitchens for this company back in 80’s as a teenager and now am a customer. I can tell you that this company’s dedication to quality and service to its customers in unmatched. Their current line of cabinets is just as good if not better than the Sieimatic brand. Our family has had many kitchens installed by this company over decades and the results have been fabulous. My parents are currently replacing a Siematic kitchen with a current kitchen from this company.
So for you two to get on your soap boxes and spout off that this company is fake is both ignorant and moronic on your parts.
