Home Stagers, Inc. is the premier source for customized, professional one-​stop-​staging and cosmetic design services. As founder of a leading professional home staging firm, Chris Breining has seen lots of changes in the business over the past 15 years. When he first got started, San Francisco was just beginning to rebound from the 1989 earthquake and the need to show houses at their very best for was in demand. Breining identified this unmet opportunity as a former Sunday open house voyeur, and with his background education in design and advertising, he took swift action to launch his own staging business. Today Home Stagers continues to uphold a high level of quality and efficiency to bring top dollar to its clients. In an ever changing economy Chris and his team are dedicated to delivering a quality product that appeals to a wide range of potential homebuyers.

It was the summer of 1992 when Christopher Breining migrated from Texas to California with a group of friends. The plan was to find a fun job and stay for a couple of years, then return home and get serious. Now 17 years later and more than 7,000 home stages under his belt, Chris and the Home Stagers team are have maintained a successful San Francisco-​based business. First the good: My place looked great once the work was done, and I was happy with the designers. .
The Bad:
–Throughout the process they did not do work they promised, and much of the work they did was shotty. It seemed like noone from Home Stagers was visiting my home to check on the work their contractor was doing and to give him direction. I needed to be there on a regular basis to provide the contractors direction and report things that were not done or not done right. They provided me a detailed written quote with list of things they would do, but they didn’t do many things. Both my Realtor and I communicated to Julie Denny about this but nothing changed. Instead of Julie apologizing and fixing the situation she wouldn’t even admit they had ‘missed’ doing some work. Instead she just persisted to tell us what a great company they were and how great their work was, when it certainly was not fit with reality. Bizarre.
–Dealing with Payment: What a fiasco!!! We needed to get a fast start and they required that I get them a check pronto before they would do any work. I wanted to mail them a check which would get there in about 2 business days. Instead, to get payment faster they wanted to somehow make arragments for someone to pick up a check from me. It took several days to make the arragements for this, it wasted time and the project started late and ended late. Additionally I wrote them a check that Bounced because my bank had not credited my account for a large check I deposited several days earlier. I asked Mary in accounting to ask the bank to retry the check since I verified there was more than enough funds in my account. She told me that she was certain the bank would not do this, and that I had to get a Cashier’s check and deliver it to them, which I did. Now several months later I find out the this check DID go thru and that Home Stagers still has my money. I’ve been dealing with them on this for over a week, but I haven;t gotten my money back.
Based on my experience they over-​promise, under-​deliver and lack common decency in dealing with clients.

This company was really disappointing to say the least!!! My realtor found them last minute to do a redesign on our home. Chris & his assistant Julie came over & immediately told me to move everything out let them redesign my whole place. First of all we had two cats already at a boarding facility & 2 small dogs staying at a friends house part time. We had asked them to redesign so we could keep our 2 dogs at our place & they didn’t want to do that and were very rude!!! After the job was done I realized my stuff was way better than the stuff they bought to redesign my place with. Their price was way too expensive & the guy they contracted out who said he would help me return all the items they redesigned my place with didn’t follow up. And lastly they brought in an old daybed that wasn’t obviously paid for with the invoice & tried to leave it behind. After my realtor called them out on the fact that the daybed was obviously from their warehouse & not store bought & that I shouldn’t have to dispose of it did the reluctantly come pick it up. People are just flat out lazy & unaccomodating!!! I would never recommend this company to anyone!!!

We were very disappointed with our experience with HOME Stagers and DO NOT recommend them. We were passed around to multiple people, and did not have one contact person, which was confusing. Additionally, we advised one of the people about our expectations of the staging, and we ended up with a staging job that was completely different, and was poorly executed. They did make some changes, but it delayed the process. The worst part is that we emailed the owner/​manager about our poor experience, and he NEVER responded. This tells me that they do not care about future business, and their customers. We will NOT use them again, nor will we EVER refer them to anyone.

With the help of Holly and Home Stagers, we sold our house in Noe Valley well over asking price!
Holly is mazing… her sense of style, decorating expertise, instinct, knowledge, professionalism, energy and positive attitude are beyond compare. She knew who our potential buyers would be and proceeded to develop a spot-​on course of action. Her recommended improvements to the property, lighting fixtures, color palette definitely got us the most bang for our buck! She nailed the staging both inside and out and helped get us the most return on our investment. We sold our home quickly and over $ 100,000 over asking price!
Believe me, Holly and her crew will aid you greatly in selling your house!

I worked with Chris and his team at Home Stagers in the summer of 2013. My seller clients were listing their NoPa condo, and I was their Realtor at Zephyr. We interviewed three staging companies and selected Home Stagers. They did a great job with the property, were responsive and professional throughout the process, and helped us attain a dozen offers and a selling price well over asking. Reasonable pricing, nice furniture inventory. Highly recommend Home Stagers.

My experience working with Home Stagers was FANTASTIC! I recently moved into a studio space and seriously needed some professional help with new furniture decisions and spacial layout.
Holly was wonderful with understanding my personal style and the overall feel I wanted to create in my space. She helped me choose wall colors and did tons of research in finding just the right pieces of furniture and art to complete the look I wanted!
The crew was just as professional. They worked with my schedule to find a time to hang art and shelving and completed the task in a very timely manner!
Overall, my experience working with Home Stagers was more than expected and I certainly recommend this company to anyone looking to either stage a home for listing or, in my case, get some extra helping with styling a new place!

I have been to several homes on the market that have used Home Stagers to do their design work. From what I have seen they do great staging. Their design taste is terrific, from furniture to original artwork from local artists. I was at an open house for a condo at SomaGrand and met the operations manager there. She was extremely friendly, of course, but she took it a step further and took the time to show me the place herself since the realtors were busy with other potential buyers. I was even told that they would provide an estimate for the furniture and artwork there as part of the sale price with the real estate agents giving me a huge relief. Shopping for those items alone would have been very inundating and most likely cost more as an individual purchaser. Since they work with a lot of furniture stores in the area they can get discounts. They even offered provide design consulting and resourcing services in case I wanted something different and still didn’t want to go through the trouble of researching and purchasing everything myself. They have great taste and are very flexible with budgets. They have a real ‘can do’ attitude even when it comes to making tough decisions. Would definitely hire them for my next home purchase!

I interviewed three staging companies, and was sorely disappointed in Home Stagers. I received my bid ONE WEEK after the promised date. One week! And that took several calls/​emails from me and my agent in order to get the bid in. Since it was my first time staging, I wanted to get all the bids in front of me before making a decision, but you’d think a staging company of all businesses would know that first impressions matter. Yes, they ended up with the cheapest bid, but their lack of customer service totally turned me off. Their proposal also reflected poorly of what I wanted — i.e. the designer and I had discussed staging certain rooms in a particular way and the proposal reflected none of that.

I hired Home Stagers to do my move and I couldn’t have been happier with the service I received. I was able to book them at the last minute and they were one of the lowest bids I received. They charged me for the work they did only, not for their travel time, which I appreciated a great deal.
On move day, 3 men showed up when I only booked 2, and facilitated my move quickly, professionally, and with a great deal of care. They worked non-​stop walking up and down the stairs for 2.5 hours, and when it was all done, all my furniture was intact without any damage.
I would definitely use Home Stagers again for my next move.
