KOFY TV 20

A year ago I would’ve given KOFY a solid 3 rating, based solely on the Saturday night awesomeness that was Creepy KOFY Movie Time. But now that my favorite show has dropped off the face of the Earth with no information or explanation from KOFY, guess what? One star.
It’s a pretty strange programming choice to A) not show re-​runs of what’s got to be one of the only money-​making shows on your network, which you own and so would presumably cost nothing to air, and instead show B-​grade movies between seasons of CKMT which I would guess you have to pay some sort of licensing fee to show; and B) to just drop the show with no word of explanation.
Can I get a job there? I don’t know how to run a TV station either!

Seriously? 50 minutes into an hour long program and no one noticed that there is no audio? This is happening a LOT lately.

I have been a viewer with KOFY for over 20 years and now as a producer of a TV show on this great channel I love them very much for giving us the great opportunity. They are awesome and truly the Bay Area best local TV station. LOCAL!

I finally convinced my boyfriend to come to the station with me yesterday but it wasn’t for Dance Party. We took part in a taping for Creepy KOFY Movie Time and had a great time. Though we were fifteen minutes late, we found a spot in the station lot (this is NOT an option during DP tapings.) With grocery bag of snacks in tow, we then headed to the studio. We were treated to classic rock and blues by house band The Deadlies, the hilarity of hosts Balrok and No-​Name (off-​camera, these guys are down-​to-​earth and super-​cool), and witnessed local talents including several stand-​up comedians, Chin-​Chin the Magician, a dancer from the Hubba Hubba Revue, and dancers from the Lusty Lady. It was a day of laughs and fun. As usual, the KOFY staff and the crowd was friendly, giving the whole experience an intimate family party feel. KOFY really is «local just like you»!

I used to have a lot of respect for the way Jim Gabbert ran this station. Now I find myself watching it less and less. I was thrilled when they became the local MeTV affiliate, because I like watching retro tv. Now I find myself constantly asking them why they are showing reruns of shows which they just ran a week or two earlier. I get the impression that they are going out of their way to lose viewers. It’s working with me.

I love this station! It shows Star Trek: The Next Generation and Creepy KOFY Movie Time. My favorite draw is Creepy KOFY Movie Time as it reminds me of the Ghoulardi and The Son of Ghoul Show days from Northeast, Ohio. The show’s hosts have an interesting (yet mysoginist) show format with an intellectual film afficinado demon named Balrok and your paint-​by-​numbers douchebag sidekick No Name for laughs. Low budget B-​movie horror hosting is making a comeback and these guys definitely fit the bill nostalgically.
The rest of the network is your above average faire that you would expect from a local UHF like station. I researched this station’s long history and it had it’s ups and downs. From maintaining the local flavor, the cool 80’s dance party and the long tradition of those dog promos. Whoever is running this station now is getting it right.

Due to the thieves at Comcast who seem to enjoy jacking up prices for no discernible reason, I recently downgraded my cable subscription. And there I was one day, Netflix tapped out, at a loss of what to do. Read a book?
Bah.
Flipping through the channels, I found a Mexican version of American Idol, Chinese softcore cable porn, a number of newscasts, and… KOFY? Before long I was hooked. The local celebrity hosts, neat homegrown programming, local dog bumpers, and classic shows are awesome, and I don’t miss my other 180 channels at all.
Do yourself a favor: stick it to the cable man, downgrade your service, and watch KOFY. You’ll be glad you did.

Thank heavens for my double dose of Perry Mason. It keeps me sane. I love Celeste Perry as a host too.
KOFY provides very entertaining programming. Please keep up the good work!

I came here with friends for the Kofy Dance Party taping. The station has a number of parking spots up front, and there’s also a good amount of parking in a nearby public storage garage as well as on Kansas. (Btw – and we found this out the hard way – if you’re coming for Dance Party, I wouldn’t recommend parking near the entrance. The line ends up behind your car, and you have to wait for people to go into the next taping in order to back out. Park by the far driveway if you can).

The staff was fantastic. They took pictures of those waiting in line, and once we were inside, they offered free water. The host was really friendly on and off camera, and the crew was very accessible as well. They clearly love their jobs and want to be there. Plus, how many stations offer this kind of opportunity to local folks? It definitely attracted a lot of fun people, so waiting in line was enjoyable as well (checking out everyone’s 80s attire=win). I’ll definitely be going back.

LOVE this station and how hard it is trying, UNTILL! the 700 club and the stupid infomertials with Celeste Perry and the Lasik (vain interviewie) and the scare tactic ecconomic advisor guy. Very disturbing and make me not want to watch, feel like a target and the interviewies are too flirty with the interviewer, yuck!

KOFY really lets the viewer take control of the station! Anything you want, they will play it! Its amazing!

About a year ago, my guy saw and ad from this station requesting pictures of dogs for their commercials.
He fondly remembered the dog commercials from years ago, and immediately sent in a picture of our pooch.
We didn’t hear anything for almost a year…
A few weeks ago, we received an email, and were set up with an appointment to come in to film a commercial.
We were a little nervous that our dog would behave, and not get too excited.
I’m happy and proud to say, he was a little rock star!
The camera man, and the other guy we dealt with were awesome. They were really good with our little dude, encouraging, and super friendly and nice.
It was such a great experience!
The commercial airs for the first time next week (Feb. 16 @ 8pm), and will be in rotation for about a month and a half.
****Also, the women’s bathroom was IMMACULATE.****

So pleased to see this station back on the air. Yeah, it is a bit homespun but it is a treat to watch all the old shows I remember growing up.
I also like the idea that viewers can vote for a show to be placed in the schedule for the month. That is really great!
Good to see James Gabbert. He really took a lot of pride and care in building the TV station and was the manager of the radio station K101 back in the 1970’s.
Our City needs more dedicated and concerned people like James. It is so easy to forget how important it is to have local media.

if you grew up in the bay area like i did you definitely remember kofy tv 20. i’m so glad i can say it’s back for those of us that missed it and to make new fans of this generation. unfortunately it was off the air for over 10 years and was the wb but i’m really glad to see the change for the best. it still has that low budget look and feel to it but you gotta love it. hopefully in time they have have even much more to offer like the return of dance party, dining for dollars, smell o vision and so much more.
it’s already been nice to see the return of the dogs and the yule log for christmas. so far the programming is a little slow but i look forward to some really good things. kofy finally found who let the dogs out and brought them all back on the air.
