Dr. Kimberly Mitchell combines state-​of-​the-​art dental technology with a friendly, gentle style. She is located in the heart of Union Square in the historic art deco building at 490 Post Street. Her office provides ergonomic plush dental chairs and spacious private suites for ultimate relaxation and privacy in a spa like setting.

Dr. Mitchell provides the latest advances in dental care to ensure a beautiful, healthy smile, including digital x-​rays, hospital grade sterilizer, a chartless office, white fillings, veneers, teeth bleaching, implants and Invisalign orthodontics.

The best.
My mouth is a work of art (11+ cavities, 2 root canals, 2 molar caps, i’ve had gum lengthening and braces…) and I ONLY trust Dr. Mitchell and her staff with my teeth. She also gives me great advice on how to better manage my soft teeth and their sensitivity to sugar and other bad foods. Would definitely recommend her knowledgable self and staff.

My coworker referred me to Dr. Mitchell and I am so glad I came in! I generally love going to the dentist, and Dr. Mitchell was approachable and very professional.
I have to commend the dental assistant (Asian lady), who was so friendly and knowledgeable. She did a great job scaling my teeth — they looked so much whiter afterward. I also appreciate her for making the teeth x-​ray process so quick and painless.
Very easy to make appointments and as long as I’m in the city, I will continue to see Dr. Mitchell for all my dental needs.

I called today to schedule my cleaning appointment. I am new to the Bay Area The receptionist Weela? is not so friendly on the phone. She sounds like she has no personality very dull and boring tone of voice. I was placed on hold like for 6 minutes and after waiting I decided to go somewhere. I can not imagine going to this office did not feel welcomed on the phone what so ever.

I’ve never necessarily dealt with a «bad dentist» per se, but it was at Dr. Mitchell’s office that I had my very first cavity fillings and deep cleaning. I could not have asked for a better place to endure some otherwise nasty procedures. They offered to let me listen to music through earphones during the procedures. Afterward, they were concerned about how I’d get home (post Valium and anesthesia doses) even though my apartment is only 2 blocks away, so the hygienist insistently volunteered to escort me. I definitely wasn’t expecting that.
Later in the week, they even squeezed me in for a last minute filling shave since my filling was a bit higher than the rest of my teeth (which is difficult to judge while you’re numb during the first appointment). No charge for a visit or anything either.
They were also on my side when my insurance didn’t do s-​h-​i-​t for me. These guys are simply the best.

Kimberley is great, the receptionists are super nice, the cleanings are thorough without being agonizing, and I’ve had less cavities than ever since I’ve started going here. They take a super thorough x-​ray process on your first visit, but then you only get basic xrays once a year as usual. I used to HATE the dentist, but these ladies know what they’re doing.

Just got back from an appointment. I had to take my 3 month old with me and was pretty worried she would just cry then whole time. All of the staff was amazing and so accommodating. I felt completely at ease while getting my filling and was able to hold her the entire time. This was one of the best dentist experiences I’ve had in a long time. Cleanings are fast and efficient. Referrals have been great.

I visited Kimberly when I first moved to SF for my regular 6 month cleaning. After reviewing X-​rays, she referred me to an endodontist and then some other surgeon and I was told I needed to get my tooth extracted. I went straight back to Kimberly telling her this tooth has a long history and questioned why she wasn’t asking for prior history or X-​rays. She said she was only focusing on the present X-​ray and that the tooth should be extracted. I went ahead and got a second opinion from another dentist.
~3 years later, I still have not had a tooth extraction and feel fine.

Ok but nothing special. In the past year both of my online requests for appointments were ignored. And I felt pressured to have work done.

I look forward to seeing my dentist every 6 months. Her staff is wonderful and very welcoming. I still remember a year ago, I was excited to see the dentist and on the same day I got laid off. Kimberly Mitchell was on maternity leave but her substitute dentist said sorry I was having a bad day and told me to sit back and relax because it will come to pass. (Obviously, it did.) Her words were just genuine. Thank you!
As for Kimberly Mitchell and my teeth, I have had a few dentists before and her staff is by far the most skilled. I have never felt any discomfort while she was cleaning my teeth, and I have very sensitive gums. In the past, I remember gripping the chair while my teeth was cleaned. I have never had to do such things with her staff, and I get even better results. She is so detail oriented that every single slab of plaque and staining is removed. Her office also has the most up-​to-​date technology in ensuring the health of your teeth, and Kimberly has a very genuine and kind personality as well!
I’ve never had any issues with insurance and payment. One time when I switched insurance, I forgot my card but her staff looked it up and called. Whoo! I always leave Kimberly Mitchell’s office feeling very well taken care of.

Dr. Mitchell is fantastic. I love her and frankly, I would love to recommend her. The front desk staff, however, leaves something to be desired. Lately I’ve been torn about whether to continue to go to this practice because I do like the dentist herself so much, and a good dentist is hard to find, or just throw the towel in and start looking again from scratch.
Example — If you quote me one amount and then when I show up for the visit bill me another, it shouldn’t come as a shock if I’m not prepared for it. If you then refuse to allow me (the patient) to see the dentist unless it’s «paid in full» but you just changed the price on me, not only do you have a lack of empathy, but I would call it unprofessional. If you then tell me that if I don’t stay for the visit, it’s $ 100 charge because I am cancelling with less than a 2 business days notice (which I’d love to know where it is written), we’re just crossed over from unprofessional and lacking in empathy to bordering on extortion.
And now the doctor has been on maternity leave and there has been a rotation of dentists in and out, some great, some not so great — no consistency. Let’s say I’m trying to hang in until she returns but the more I write this, the more I’m wondering why I am bothering.

Dr Mitchell and her staff are simply the best ever. She knows her stuff, doesn’t try to push you into getting needless work done and I always leave the dentist happy. Yes it’s true!
My last dentist, said I needed a rot canal and a night guard which would have cost me +$ 3k. I went to Dr. Mitchell who said otherwise. 2 years later my teeth are better than ever and i didn’t waste 3k!

One STAR is too much for this type of business based in the principle of ripping off the patient and not wanting to resolve the issue!
In February this year I took my son to a dentist who we didn’t trust his oral exam. Then, I found Dr. Mitchell on Unilocal and decided to make an appointment for another oral exam.
On February 20th, 2013 my son, had an appointment with Dr. Mitchell for a preventive diagnostic (intra oral exam).
However, the bill of $ 150 was sent to my insurance under «Consultation (2nd opinion),» and they refused to pay.
Later, I received the same bill from the insurance company stating that the payment was my responsibly.
I promptly called my insurance company and explained the situation. They advised me to call Dr. Mitchell’s office and request a new bill to be resend for the insurance company with «the right specification,» meaning — stating «preventive diagnostic/​intra oral exam» on the bill. This way they would make the payment.
That’s when I called Dr. Mitchell’s office (in March 2013) and requested a new bill, «with the right specification», to be resend for the insurance company. Her secretary agreed and said that she would take care of that.
Then, in May 2013 I received a ‘Statement of Account’ from Dr. Mitchell’s office charging me a balance of $ 150.
I called her office again hoping to talk to the same person, but spoke to another secretary. I had to explain all over again.
She seemed very confused and didn’t know exactly what to do. She even told me that she was new in the office.
That’s when I asked her if I could talk to Dr. Mitchell. She asked for my phone number and told me that Dr. Mitchell would contact me. It has been three months now.
Last month I got another «Statement of Account» in the mail from Dr. Mitchell’s office, charging me the same amount of $ 150.
I sent Dr. Mitchell an email explaining the whole situation, and expressing that
I would appreciate very much if we could resolve this matter as soon as possible.
I explained again that all her office needed to do was to bill my insurance with the right specification: «preventive diagnostic (intra oral exam)» just like the insurance company had requested back in May.
However, Dr. Mitchell never called me back or sent me an email.
I am tired of trying to resolve the issue. I’ve just paid the bill.
I DO NOT recommend this dentist to anyone.
Unless you would like to pay for bills that are not your responsibility, just because her accounting department doesn’t know how to bill the insurance companies properly.

Five years later I still love this office and Dr. Mitchell is the best. I think I have four friends & coworkers that now come here, and they all say the same. I recently had to have a retainer made and fitted and the whole experience was a breeze including the billing. YAY!
Hands down the most thorough teeth cleanings, and friendliest dentist experience, ever.

I don’t have a fear of dentists per se but my gums have a fear of getting nicked. I was referred to Dr. Mitchell from a co-​worker who did have a fear of dentists so I decided to give her a try.
This was actually my second visit and I figured I should probably give her a review since I really like her office. However on my first visit when I was filling out the paperwork, I realized I lost my insurance card but since I had 2 co-​workers already using her services they took the time to lookup my information for me. They do email and text reminders which is great for folks like me who constantly forget stuff. In fact this was a reschedule because when they called to confirm my last appointment, I had the wrong date listed on my calendar. They were easy going about setting up this new appointment rather than giving a disapproving tone because of my screwup.
As far as the 2nd visit went, I was seen within a minute or 2 of arriving. The hygenist was friendly and asking about any dental concerns including one I brought up at the last visit, which shows me she actually reviewed my file before seeing me. I also inquired about a new nightguard and by the end of my cleaning they already had my insurance info on it and my total out of pocket cost should I choose to get one. BTW the hygenist works fast but never once did she nick my gums :)
Everyone is warm, friendly and caring. Every step of the way they take the time to make sure you’re comfortable and explain what they will be doing so you understand the process. Overall my experience shows me they value my time as much as theirs, they care about their patients as people, not just another file and I’ve never felt that they are trying to sell you something you don’t need.

I have been very impressed with the skill and attitude at this office. Dr. Mitchell and her colleagues are all very friendly, gentle and thorough. They are also happy to answer all your questions and explain insurance and costs simply and respectfully. I had a very pleasant cleaning and came back for a new filling — they explained what they were doing and allowed me to watch (if you are into that sort of thing).
They were also concerned about my wisdom teeth (which have grown in and impacted during the 2 – 3 years I wasn’t receiving dental care), and referred me to an office that has so far been very thorough, helpful and friendly.
Dr. Mitchell’s staff doesn’t do anything without finding out the cost to you, and they even offered to refund me fully if it turned out I didn’t need the new filling (but I did, as there was decay inside the tooth).
Also great conversationalists (for a dental exam situation) and lovely bedside manner.

FANTASTIC. Great care, attentive staff, honest assessment of dental health.
I left my last dentist after I went from «prefect dental health» to deep pockets, new cavities and 3 fillings needing replacement in 6 months time… it just happened to coincide with the economic downturn.
3 years later, I’ve still yet to have any work recommended by Dr. Mitchell.
Her staff is top notch, the office is comfortable and Dr. Mitchell has a great bed side manner.

Dr. Mitchell is great. I thought about taking away one star, because it took her 3 tries to get my crown colored correctly, but I hesitated because she could have just slapped it on and said whatever. She really wanted to make it perfect and took the time necessary to make sure it was great. Additionally, there were a couple mixups with her staff, and communication can be quite hard. They rarely answer the phone, and call backs often take 24+ hours. Other than that, I have no complaints. Dr. Mitchell is very kind and takes pride in her work.
