Karyn Duggan, CNC

Karyn is a great nutrisionist! I came into her office a month after I had miscarried, knowing I was addicted to sugar but not wanting to quit my grande caramel latte that I’d been drinking for the past 10 years! That first visit she was very nice but very straight forward with me, asking me why I was there. I left asking myself that very same question and realizing that I wanted help to break the grip of sugar on my life. I know she thought I was never coming back. But I knew I needed to come back even though I didn’t want to stop sugar.
She has been working with me over the past 7 months, and for the past 4 months I no longer need a caramel latte in the morning to get me going. I have changed the way I eat but I’m not hungry or starving. I don’t count anything. I have lost 22 pounds with less excercise than I was doing before, my husband has lost 35 pounds and we both feel so much better. My asthma is no longer keeping me up at night. My period is no longer irregular, and while I am not pregnant yet, I do feel my body is healthier and in a good place for when that does happen. I also like that my skin has cleared up and I can tell a difference with my hair. I don’t eat «perfectly» but the changes Karyn has helped me make are very sustainable.
Karyn was always positive and very informative. She was kind, compassionate yet honest with me. She is very generous with her knowledge and her follow up emails are specific to what I need and help to keep me on track.
I am currently working on uncovering what some of my specific food sensitives are but I could never have gotten to this point with out Karyn! She is an amazing person. When I felt guilty about eating something, she helped me move past that in such a positive way. Before when I would get sick, I would never associate it to the way I was eating. Now when I eat poorly, I can feel the association and the desire is getting less because I don’t like the way I feel. Before I could never make that distinction because I didn’t know how good it felt to eat better and what it could do for me.
If you are thinking of seeing a nutrisionist and you have the opportunity to see Karyn, I would do it. I wasn’t ready to make all the changes when I first started seeing her but I am so glad that I didn’t let that stop me because she has changed my life in an amazing way!
This is the first review I have ever written but I just couldn’t keep Karyn a secret!

Karyn has been fundamental in helping me change my views on nutrition with compassion and grace. Her «filter» on whole foods has a great tool when I’ve been looking at recipes or browsing menus at restaurants. Eating has long been an area of my life that I have struggled to navigate and I’m pretty positive that I wouldn’t have been able to make this kind of progress without Karyn. Her advice is a wonderful gift to me and all my coworkers at my office. Be sure to ask her about her recipes they are delicious and simple!

Karyn is amazing! She’s friendly, knowledgeable, kind, personable, and thorough.
I saw her for help figuring out how/​what to eat given the many food intolerances that I have, and she was SO, SO helpful! I’ve been to other doctors that were wonderful in helping me figure out that my diet needed some changing, but no one was able to get into the practical nitty-​gritty of «Here’s specific recipes that you can make that are healthy, quick, and fit your exact dietary needs.» Karyn was able to understand the big picture of my dietary issues AND the small details of what to do on a daily basis.
After our first appointment, she sent me a wonderful follow-​up email that included everything we had talked about, as well as a goldmine of links and recipe ideas. She understood exactly what I was looking for, and I am very grateful :)

«Karyn and I connected when I was trying to understand what was happening to my body when i turned 30 (and gained 20 pounds in 2 months!). Karyn has made such a great impact in my life that I feel compelled to tell the world about her. After a visit to my general doctor, it turned out that my triglycerides were sky high, specially for someone my age and body build. My doctor recommend Karyn. I was extremely hesitant to go knowing that high cholesterol can only mean 1 thing, a new diet. When I finally made my way to the clinic, Karyn received me very cheerfully and with an extremely positive attitude. She was very attentive, informative and sensitive to my particular situation. She proceeded to share a ton of recipes with me after letting me know the things I should not consume. As she said, it’s not that you can’t eat burgers or pizza, but it might be better for you if you replace certain foods with these. This positive approach made me change my perspective, diet and lifestyle completely. Not only did I started to eat healthier, I started absolutely loving all the new things I eat. I used to despise oatmeal and now I eat it almost everyday thanks to a few of her recommendations. I recently went back to the clinic to see how my cholesterol was doing, and not only did it DRAMATICALLY drop, now it’s excellent. The biggest surprise is that it only took about 5 months. My cholesterol was so high that a friend of mine back home who is a doctor was considering prescribing medication for it. Karyn taught me that being conscious about what you eat is all you really need. I wish I could give her 10 stars :)

Karyn is a nutritionist at The Noe Valley Clinic and Metropolitan Medical Group with all sorts of fancy credentials. In addition to being deeply knowledgeable, she’s extremely friendly and easy to connect with. She’s got all sorts of practical info and tools to get you eating and feeling better. She’s also a fantastic role model and couldn’t be seemingly happier, prettier, slimmer or more fashionable!
