Foundation upgrades! Foundation repairs. We’ve been replacing foundations since the earthquake in 1989… have gotten quite good at it. If you have floors settling or cracks in your walls, call me for a free estimate/consultation. We have many good references (see the «filtered» ones listed as well and I’ll give you their phone numbers for verification). We usually have a job in progress that you can stop by and take a look to get an idea of what’s involved. Most of our projects require engineering and we have our «own», having been working with him for over the past twenty years. We’re usually able to «pull» permits «over the counter» in San Francisco (major feat) as our plans and our work are always good! Along with foundation upgrades we are now adding underground garages as well as complete sub-level living space additions… really pretty neat!
History
Established in 1977.
Got my contractor’s license May 10, 1977. (#335 612)…My teacher said his teacher’s license was number 28 or 29… been a while. First I built concrete patios and driveways. Then I got my C-29 (Masonry) license and built fireplaces and decorative structures. After a while I got my General Contractor’s license and built houses. But after the Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989, we’ve been pretty well replacing foundations non-stop except for a few years I spent building expatriate houses in the Philippines (thought I was retired but got tired of it.). My foreman has been with me almost 20 years! Been working with the same structural engineer for 20 years as well. I teach a foundation class for the Berkeley Building Education Center and am looking for a suitable class participation job site (offer $ 500 discount). Now in San Francisco we are building underground garages as well as complete sub-level living space additions.

I like to build structures that don’t move! Weird as it may seem, I really LIKE concrete… it’s hard to work with but when it’s done, it’s done. I still get a thrill from the challenge of supporting a building that’s considered «unsafe to enter» and re-building it so it won’t move ever again. I did this with a three-story Victorian on Page Street over 20 years ago. I completely restored a 1906 Victorian back to its glory. Turned lower unit into a garage, re-leveled building (floors had 9″ (Nine inches) slope in center)…all new electrical/plumbing/dry wall and finishes etc. etc. So I learned a lot I can share with you. Now I like to build underground garages and complete sub-level living space additions along with the foundation upgrade.
