Huckleberry Bicycles

Have you ever dreamed of a bike shop with a service department run entirely by labradoodles?
I had not.
Until I went to Huckleberry, on multiple occasions, to have my bike (s) fixed. Flat tire. Hit by a car. «Weird noise.» Slipping out of gear. «There might be something wrong with my brakes?» «Do I need locking wheel nuts and what are they?»
Let me preface this by saying, I know nothing about bikes. I have two. A three-​speed Linus, and a Bianchi road bike I bought off eBay (semi disastrously).
I’m a little bit self-​conscious about the fact that I know nothing about bikes or how to do *anything* with them. When I bought the Bianchi for $ 400 off of eBay I couldn’t figure out hot to shift. Think nice guy, but bike-​wise learning-​disabled ish.
At every turn, the folks at Huckleberry were respectful, kind, helpful. Not all of them are the same — like labradoodles. Some are quiet. Some more enthusiastic. Some cuddlier.
But all of them were great. And they wanted to be helpful. And friendly. And they’re smart.
I never felt ripped off. They were fast (perfect for a lunch time).

Whereas many of the over-​priced, snooty shops in SF quote long lead times for simple work that is often delivered with sub-​par results, Huckleberry turns even the most complicated jobs around in a day or so and for very reasonable prices. Best mechanics in the city, and friendly too.

These guys built up a Velo Orange Pass Hunter from the frame up for me and it turned out beautifully. They were always easy to get a hold of, really knowledgable, and everyone seemed genuinely interested and concerned about my bike. Highly recommend this shop.

I live right near Huckleberry and I’ve been going here since they opened. I’ve had numerous bikes serviced by them and I’ve even purchased one here. It’s a beautiful store with a great location. There’s an NES to play! So many great things but, one exception.
While I feel a good portion of the staff here are passionate, helpful and amazing people, there is a strong contingent of employees undermining their efforts. Roughly half the sales staff and ¹⁄₃ of the service team are not really interested in helping people. They seem genuinely bothered by my presence and look to give me the minimum amount of effort and time necessary to get my money. When I leave, I feel angry and taken advantage of.
This is a shame because the other employees here are truly great. I wish I was attentive enough to name names here because they are all incredibly knowledgable and invested in the success of the business and their customers happiness. It’s a shame that I have begun to avoid this place simply because I don’t know what sort of experience I’m going to have when I enter.
Roll the dice?. You might be happy with your visit.

Those guys don’t sell bullsh**. :)) Got great help, explaining what has caused many flats in a row (a cheap rim tape). The person who helped me took a lot of time for changing the rim tape, I asked for another one for my back wheel, he told me, that if it’s not broken, I should wait to fix it. Sold the excellent tapes for a really good price excluding the time he spent on helping me.
Big recommendation!

Best bike shop in SF bar none! I’ve had several of my bikes serviced here and they do phenomenal work. Competitive prices, super friendly staff, and great selection of gear and of course bikes.

Awesome bike shop. All the people in the shop are super helpful and knowledgeable. Bought a new Surly and customized it — great experience, great vibe and a great bike. All elements are great — especially Taylor, who has been awesome to work with.

We stopped here for some tubes and to check out their selection of bikes. Beautiful Cannondales! Excellent customer service, nice merchandise, and great location. Will definitely be back!

Awesome shop! Came by this morning with a flat tire (tubular) and came back after lunch to a fixed flat.
And… they said it was on the house. Awesome dudes :)

There are a few great bike shops in the city, but this one is my favorite. If you’re looking for a new Canondale, or to use the shop, this place is great. They also have some good gear.

Mikes Bikes is much friendlier.

This shop kills it.
A+ stock selection: Cannondale, All-​City, Salsa, Shinola. Prices are always competitive as well.
A+ staff, both sales and mechanics: Sweet attitudes all around and everyone is super helpful.
A+ view of Market Street: If you want a dose of SF culture, watch the scene that takes place outside the windows of Huckleberry. You can’t make this stuff up.

Not too happy with the service department. The reason I bought my bike here was because of the rating. I felt like after I made the purchase, they couldn’t care less about providing the complimentary tune up service within the warranty period.
PS: the sales guy neglected to tell me that I needed to bring my bike in a month after I break it in which was recommended in the manual. But when I brought t up to the service guy that it’s been 3 months and I need a tune up, he said you don’t really need it since it’s quite new. Really?

Installed my bike basket and light! They are fast and knowledgeable. My bike had been working great.

Update (July 21, 2015): Came back to the store today to get the pedals and cleats installed. Kevin, Taylor, and David walked me through how to install the components and walked me through clipping in.
I’ve NEVER used clip ins. Taylor gave me very helpful tips and after 10 minutes in the trainer I felt comfortable enough to bike back to office. Made it back in one piece and heading back to the shop next week for a fitting.

Folks that work there are bike enthusiast so they know their stuff! Not to mention they’re super friendly and helpful.
I needed to purchase clip ins and shoes for the first time for my first Olympic distance triathlon. This also comes after my Cannondale Synapse was stolen downtown.
Spoke with Dave on the phone, he held the clips for me, helped me with shoes, and pointed me to a very fancy carbon fiber synapse 48 as a replacement.
I purchased the Sidi and Speedplay Zero System. Dave also offered to install everything when I get a bike. I look forward to becoming a long time customer at Huckleberry. Kudos to Dave and the team at Huckleberry!

Nothing big to add here that 161 other reviewers haven’t already but speaking from the repair side of the business just to say that these guys rock. Expectations and fixes met and exceeded every time.
Plus great tunes.
And tetris.

I like the shop, and have always had good vibes and assistance from the staff. But I just had my first service done there, and the proof is in the tasting of the pudding.
Sadly, it was not good.
My lovely gf got me a set of Revolights from Huckleberry for festivus. I thought about mounting them myself, but the shop said it’s a somewhat complicated install and could be best to just let them sort it out.
The problem is, they did a really half-​arsed job of mounting them. Wires weren’t connected properly, so some lights didn’t activate. A sensor magnet was misplaced, causing the tail lights to shine downward instead of rearward. And some of the components were misaligned, others, loosely mounted. The manager asked me to come back in so they could sort it out, but I chose to instead spend 30 minutes making it right myself instead of 2+ hours taking it in and waiting on them to (maybe?) do so. And the point of paying somebody to do it is to either save time and/​or have it done better than one could themselves. Fail on both counts.
All-​around bummer. It is my one and only experience with their mechanics, so it could have just been an anomaly. But there it is.

It’s a nice shop, good for cruiser-​lookers, serious riders, and some very pretty cruising equipment. I spoke to a couple of sales reps, they were friendly and easy to chat with.
While there, I purchased velo orange fenders (they felt light holding them, but BOY did they change the way my cycle rides…). I was told you need tools in order to install them: drill holes, cut off the ends of metal rails. Ergh. No time for that. Ok. I’ll pay for the install as well. $ 99.
I arrive to pick up my ride and all seems well — but a brake cable part is on the tag. What’s the matter? Oh! my rear center-​pull is about to break and they caught it. Cool! And they swapped for free. Ok, that’s really nice.
So I pay, and leave.
The rear center bolt on my brake pulls was loose, so it’s sloppy and moved side to side. Front is loose too. There’s this weird kick-​back when I brake as a result. Rear brake pads aren’t centered on bike rims. It’s not safe! They also oiled my chain (which is nice), but I hadn’t realized and I don’t think the excess got wiped off. I found out because I nailed my light-​colored jeans with it. Permanent marks on them.
Long story short:
They caught a bad issue during a different service, but I have additional tune-​up work to do because I had fenders installed at this shop.

I’ve owned more bikes than I’d like to admit and I’ve been to a lot of bike shops to fuel the hobby.
Huckleberry Bicycles is as good as it gets nationwide.
I went to the shop to see their 2014 close out models and they had a great variety of bikes in the shop. Ranging from Giant, Cannondale and even Pinarello. Spoke to the sales rep for about 30 minutes, great service agreement (and service I’d later find out) of one year for free.
Went back on a Saturday with a helmet and demoed a Supersix Evo and Synapse. Shortly after the test rides I left with a Cannondale.
I came back two weeks later and got an extremely thorough road bike fit done which was complimentary with the bike purchase.
This is hands down the best staff I’ve worked with or had service done by in any bike shop in the last 10+ years.
Solid bike shop in Downtown, San Francisco and I would highly recommend them to anyone in the bike purchase market.

These guys were pretty amazing when it came to fixing up Boyfriend’s bike! They had a same-​day turnaround for installing a new headset for the bike, and Boyfriend says they also threw in a small, free spacer on his fork to fix his geometry*.
* = please note that what I’m saying may make no sense as I am recalling from memory and I know almost nothing about bikes. Whatever they did though, Boyfriend was pleasantly surprised and super pleased about it.
All you really need to take away from this is that everyone we dealt with at Huckleberry was super friendly, super knowledgeable and super helpful. They also have a pretty sweet NES setup with a million games for you to play while you wait for your bike repair to finish (or your significant others to finish drooling over the entire store’s stock).
