Hotel Zephyr

Stayed for 3 days. One of the two elevators was out entire time and took 15 min to get down and up. I reserved a bay view room and when got to room in order to see bay you had to go on patio and look around corner. Game room was closed two days for private events. Staff was friendly and room was ok. FOr the price i will stay at another location next time.

I went here with my 20 year old daughter. Immediately upon entering the lobby, we were wowed by the ambiance and the décor. There were cool, hip circular benches to sit on, the music was cool, there was an outside area with large bronze sculptures and firepits and a food stand outside.
When we got in our room, we were happy yet again. Great décor, coffee and tea service, beautiful bathroom and really comfy beds.
Don’t worry there is no restaurants or room service. You can walk 20 feet from the front door and find even cheaper and better food than at a hotel.
We were EXTREMELY happy with this hotel and I am on here now because I’m making reservations to go back up!

Hotel is 5 minutes walking distance to Pier 39. Rooms are comfortable and clean. Great amenities of a Game Room with a ping pong table, pool table, & table shuffle board. It accommodated our group 16 (including the noise!); wonderful if you’re visiting during rainy season. Non-​rainy days you could enjoy the outdoor amenities of a fire pit, life size Othello, and outdoor shuffle board.
I am really impressed of how well this place up-​cycles material such as old projection computer screens, cargo-​shipping containers, tables of recycled wood & metal.
If you’ve forgotten any toiletries, CVS is around the corner.
The hotel room amenities were comfortable and clean. I would revisit for future trips.

The hotel was great. Didn’t have the amenities of a 4 star hotel, no bar, no restaurant, but was clean and pleasant to stay at. Our room felt like a hip cabin on a boat. Staff were friendly and happy to have us there. The neighbourhood seemed safe, but tacky once you got outside. It’s definitely the tourist trap hood. It was a simple short walk to the North Beach /​Little Italy neighbourhood, and the rest of the city. We didn’t spend any time in the hotel outside of our room. Got our room through Hotwire at a real discount, which made the trip feel very worth it. If we paid full price I would have expected a bit more out of the place.

It’s kind of a joke here considering the price. I had an emergency and needed to stay an extra day in San Francisco. I was staying at the Argonaut but they didn’t have a room for my unexpected extra day. So the Hotel Zephyr had one room left. I was charged 649.00. The room normally costs 349.00 if they’re not booked.
I am not a snob, I am not rich. I do however have a fetish for luxury hotels. I love how four and five star hotels manage every little detail. It’s just my little indulgence in life. The Hotel Zephyr is not one of those hotels. They have the lobby and outside community area decorated with this eclectic style which seems to go overboard. That’s okay but the real concerns are that lack of detail to strive for perfection. It’s no different than a typical Marriot Courtyard or similar. People have complained about the elevator not working in past reviews. What I am finding is it’s painfully slow. Staff has been neutral. Not that «I am here to make your experience incredible» type of demeanor. So this hotel would be fine if the room cost about $ 200.00. It regularly cost $ 350.00 or even up to $ 500.00 on certain days. I got hosed for $ 650.00. It is not a luxury hotel. Stay for $ 200 or less. If you want real quality service, spend $ 350 at The Argonaut.

Stayed at Hotel Zephyr for one night with my 2 toddlers and husband in the partial ocean view, double suite. Awesome hotel, love the décor, great location and great rate (got Unilocaler’s discount). 3 drawbacks which is why i didn’t give 5 stars. ELEVATOR, NOISE and AC unit. Only one elevator worked and it was creepy and slow. Felt like we were gonna get stuck! In terms of noise, we had to keeo the windows open because it was way too cool to leave AC unit on. The bed closest to the AC unit was freezing cold. With windows opened so much noise, we heard crazies screaming, a fight and the garbage truck (typical SF!). Maybe if our room was by the courtyard would of been better. I slept but my husband only had 2 hours of sleep!

Terrible. There’s a club across the street and the music kept me up all night. Also, their elevator was broken. One of the other guests said it’d been broken for the entire 3 days he’d been there. I’d stay somewhere else

I’d give the zephyr 5 stars if it was based on location alone. The wharf is genuinely the most beautiful place in San Francisco.
My husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon 3 years ago when it was still the raddison so we decided to come back again because it was so close to all the things we love. We looked online previously and saw that it was no longer a raddison and it looked gorgeous!!! Unfortunately, the prices were outrageous ($ 289 a night over $ 300 with parking) but we decided to go ahead and book anyways. The people at the front desk were very kind and allowed us to check in early which was a total plus. We got to our room and saw the remodel and were stunned. The room was so pretty and we had a great view! I wandered into the bathroom and saw that it was remodeled but they didn’t replace switch plates or the tub which was cracking and changing colors in the grout. Kind of gross. I decided to lay down in bed for a bit and when I got out of bed, my legs were extremely itchy. I promptly checked he mattress but couldn’t get a good look because the mattress was zipped up in a cover. Needless to say the itching stopped thank goodness. We decided to go down to the wharf and got in the elevators which were covered in a reddish brown substance, could’ve been chocolate, could’ve been blood. No telling, I do know that I didn’t want that stuff tracked into my room. For the remainder of our stay, the floors in the elevator were NEVER cleaned. So so so nasty. I think the rooms and hallways were a little on the dirty side, and for the price you have to pay to stay there, cleanliness should be a given. If you try and leave your room or come back to your room during housekeeping hours, good lucky getting through the hallways without having to brush up against dirty bed linen. Lastly, there’s a huge outdoor patio that’s been landscaped beautifully and so quirky but the only way you can exit to the wharf is through Johnny Rockets. Not ideal. The fire pits were not turned on, the games out there were missing the balls. This property desperately needs a bar or restaurant. I know there are tons of places to eat and drink near by, but when you have such a lovely outdoor seating area you should be able to enjoy it with a cocktail or a bite to eat.
Addition: elevator is broken, so expect to sit in the lobby and wait for the only working elevator. The broken elevator has a sign on it that says «on vacation».

This hotel was just ok. The décor is nautical themed and different from anything I have experienced before. The hotel staff is rude! Front desk has no manners. The wine bottle opener provided by the front desk broke while opening our bottle of wine (not their fault). The beds were small in our room. Location is good as it is right on the street.
Overall, good location and poor service.

Found this hotel as we were waiting for our gate on the plane. It’s such in a prime location. Walkable to the historic wharf and close to other transportation. The design is super cool and the staff is more than nice and accommodating. The rooms were clean and spacious. Really enjoyed this hotel and recommend it to anyone wanting to stay at the wharf.
The three fire-​pits on the property were relaxing in the evening.
Parking was $ 32 with in and out privileges.

Loved this hotel! Very close to Fishermans Wharf! Décor is so cool and the outside patio area is so much fun! Will definitely stay here again next time I’m in San Francisco! The hallways/​doors/​elevators could use some fixing and updating but other than that. It’s an awesome hotel!

This hotel has an amazing location! And the décor and concept of the out door patio is very cool. However if you are going to promote all this it really needs to be in working order. Like having only one pool stick with no tip, missing the ball for the maze? The fire pits are really cool but whats the point if you dont light them? I get that things break or get taken but they should have extras on hand to replace them. The rooms were tiny with beds so small it was uncomfortable to sleep with my child. The walls were paper thin. So when our drunk neighbors came in their room it was like we were all in the same room. However the front desk was quick to ask them to be quite when we called them. We would not stay at this hotel again.

I was in SF on business for a few nights, when I checked in I had some issues with my card & the gentleman at the front helped me out and got me checked in.
Once in the room it was a tad small but that bed… Mannnnnnn was that bed something else! I had the best sleep of my life that first night. But besides that everything about this hotel was great, I will definitely be staying here again when I am back in town for business.

Hotel Zephyr had some hits and misses — including drunk people in the courtyard cussing and dropping the «N-​word» that makes me think this will be a one-​time visit. (I will say they definitely get major points in the design department.)
Never stepping foot in San Fran, I was told Fisherman’s Wharf was a cool spot. This prompted me to search for hotels, and seeing as this one offered 20 percent off to Unilocalers, I figured, why not. The spot looked cool, the rooms on the website had dreamy views, and it was a different feel to the average hotel chain.
When we first arrived to downtown San Francisco, we were taken aback at how dirty it is. Coming from the east coast, the surrounding hotel area has a funky Chinatown/​downtown L.A. vibe that makes me want to leave. (Any who, I digress.)
Once I arrived to check into the hotel, I loved the lobby décor, the upcycled furnishings, and the random Leo DiCaprio figure. (Hey, Leo!) When I spoke with the front desk associate, I wanted to confirm my reservation. I previously paid for a partial ocean view room, and did some social media prompt to get a room upgrade. Wanting to make sure my 20 percent Unilocal discount and upgrade (email clearly says, «Please present at time of arrival») were accepted, the woman seemed a bit clueless — and told me to check the site I used to book my nights. Well, I booked directly through you guys, but okay. She said I was upgraded and the discount was applied, so I went on my way.
We decided to nix parking at the hotel. Sorry, but $ 50−65/night is a huge hell no in my book. Thankfully, there was a parking garage a few streets down that offered unlimited going in/​out privileges for $ 32/​night.
Once we arrived to our room, I was confused … because I saw other rooms across from me, San Francisco houses on a hill, but no water. Heading back downstairs and speaking with another associate, she confirmed I was in an upgraded room and could in fact see the water, if I looked. «Your room is on a higher floor and has a balcony.» Going back up to my room, I went out on the balcony and stuck my head towards the right to finally see the water. (I guess they weren’t playing around with that partial view.) My question is this: had I not been upgraded to a balcony, how the heck would I have seen the water? Stick my head out the window? I still feel like their photos of the view on their website, and the reality of what you get, are a bit misleading.
The only saving grace this place receives is the amazing courtyard, game room (the board games seem to have disappeared), and the fun décor in the room. The gym wasn’t bad at all, either.
Oh, and if you want your room cooled, you’re gonna have to wait … for a long time. Kudos for the eco-​friendly approach, but I have to hear my engineer husband nag my ear off about why putting such a unit next to the balcony to get bramed on by the sun all day (instead of up on the wall away from the window) makes it next to impossible for it not to get cool quickly. The room was over 80 until the sun went down, and that includes using the time we arrived in the room to fiddle with it. It took a full day for the temps in our room to drop to 75 degrees (we were aiming for 70).
The only functioning elevator in the building (one is inoperable for renovations) broke down shortly after we checked in. And, while I am a part of the millennia crew, I don’t think hearing folks cuss and drink with the courtyard … on a Monday night … makes me jump for joy for this place. Trust me, I’m from Baltimore — and don’t have virgin ears. But, as much as this place costs, I would rather deal with that craziness at a Holiday Inn or something.
All in all, this place was okay. The main floor is definitely full of dreamy finds that will keep you entertained. The rooms are playful in resign with some what comfy beds.
I will say that the woman who checked me out was a godsend compared to the lady I encountered the first day.
Hotel Zephyr is not the worst hotel I’ve been to, but given the price, I would likely go elsewhere for a little more.

I can’t imagine a better hotel for me and my 3 boys. The games, both in the room and the game room off the lobby, are stellar. The design style is so fun.
The lobby an courtyard are welcoming, and there’s plenty of seating so everyone can just hang out. the large 3D art pieces throughout the hotel is a bonus.
The staff were awesome and even gave the kids a nice little complimentary candy when we arrived.

This hotel is conveniently located just walking distance from the Pier, as well as other touristy spots/​shopping. It’s perfect if you’re visiting the Pier area. We went to Hillstone Restaurant, toured the Alcatraz Island, and went around Pier 39. ALL WALKING DISTANCE!
It’s in the city so the outside doesn’t look much but it’s well decored inside as well as their rooms. Also, being in the city, parking isn’t the best. We had a lovely room, however, we were located right in front of the elevator so you can hear people going in and out, and hearing their conversations while they wait for the elevator. Otherwise, I loved our room and it was super clean.

I love what this hotel did with the hotel décor because it makes your stay unique and different. It’s close to the pier and I feel it’s worth its price.
Main reasons why it did not get 5 stars, which other guests have also noted:
1. The elevators are horrible. Takes about 5 minutes to get on one and get to your room. And there is only 3 floors!!!
2. Room key cards. Yes, you will be locked out of your room at least once.
3. Empty… Mini fridge. I guess a couple of waters or drinks would add to the hotel revenue.
4. Check-​in at 4!!! Are you kidding me? It’s way too late.
Other than that, everything was great, really!

Location can’t be beat, if you wanna stay within walking distance to Pier 39, Fisherman’s Wharf, Ghirardelli Square… SO many places to eat, shop, people watch and the hotel itself is awesome!!! Staff was great, and the funky vibe is so comfortable. Not pretentious or stuffy. It’s visually stimulating and refreshing and we will definitely be staying here again!!!

Originally assigned a room with a view of a pickup trucks headlights and right next to an active, noisy elevator. I felt as if I was in a Motel 6. After complaining, we were moved to 4^th floor. Nice room, nice view of the Bay. Hotel is very nice. Small, but upscale comfortable rooms with tons of modern amenities. Huge TV, Keurig, dart board, big comfortable bed. Nice hot water and good water pressure. Clean and convenient. The Lobby area sets this hotel apart. Game room, indoor and outdoor lounge areas, fire pits and lots of cool art. Young crowd and good place to hang with a large group. Staff is very flexible, as long as you clean up after yourself. In all, a nice stay and we will return and recommend!

Where to start! I booked this hotel through a third party website (
) which I kind of regret because apparently they offer discounts to Unilocalers! So check that out if you haven’t. However, booking through a third party wasn’t bad. It was $ 150 for a king bed room, came out to about $ 177 after tax and tourism tax. Parking wasn’t included in that which is $ 56 a night after tax. So if you have a car, its pretty expensive. However, that is about average to upper average of San Fran overnight parking. Perhaps compare the Unilocal discount to third parties and to the actual website.
This hotel is about two blocks from the main pier boardwalk and another two blocks from pier ³³⁄₄₁ (alcatraz/fisherman’s warf). So the location is awesome! Not to mention it’s a 10 – 20 minute walk from Chinatown and Ghirardelli Square. So it’s in a great location for a lot of San Francisco’s main attractions. There is even a tourism excursion office next door to the lobby (not the concierge desk but outside of the hotel) where you can get a trip to Yosemite, Monteray, a hop-​on-​hop-​off bus package, and more.
The hotel itself is beautifully decorated. It’s a nautical meets steampunk themed (check out my pictures!). A lot of recycled objects went into the hotel. There are even ship containers in there which was pretty cool.
For entertainment purposes, there is a game room that has a tv, Internet plug-​in bar (all guests receive free Wi-​Fi codes upon check in), shuffle board, a unique ping-​pong table, giant connect four, and fire pits for relaxing. They also have a fitness center.
They offer breakfast for a cost of about $ 13 per person for adults. There is an early check-​in fee of $ 25 if you come before 12. Check-​in is at 4pm and check out is at noon, there is a late check out fee as well but I’m not sure how much that is.
The rooms are cute. All nautical themed. Buoy lights complete with dimmers, a seagull, and a port hole. There is also a magnetic dart board (doesn’t work very well but it was cute), as well as a backgammon board game in the room. The beds were SO comfortable. We slept great. Our room was on the far end of the hall and hotel and just above the street (room 2058 so the second floor) and we occasionally heard buses but we were able to sleep in fine.
The staff was really nice and helpful too. The outdoor patio had really cool fire places and such too. It also had access to a Johnny Rockets. One thing that looked like it was going to change was there was an old travel trailer that looked like it was going to be made into a food truck or bar! So possibly something to look forward to in the future. This hotel basically has everything besides a pool, and a full service restaurant/​bar if those are requirements for you. I also don’t think they offer shuttle service to and from the airport. But call to confirm that.
Overall, for the price, convenience, décor, friendliest of staff, and amenities, I would recommend this to anyone. Also, if I come back to SF, I will probably try to stay here again. It was great fun!

We really enjoy boutique hotels and the expressive design elements that each present. While not our preferred location midst the tourist and wharf area, it was close to a couple of venues that we were to hit on this one-​night trip. This hotel is directly opposite the wharf area with Pier 39 a block to the east and Wharf to the west; backside facing Jefferson. Somehow I scored an upgrade and had a balcony suite overlooking the waterfront area.
I’d consider the décor here to be Maritime; not nautical. Somewhat industrial with color and texture mixing metals and textiles. The lobby opens to a large communal room with plenty of unique cozy seat groupings. To one side is a game room with more seating, a pool table and shuffleboard. The patio area has 3 fire pits and one fire sculpture. A tubular ping pong table, oversize Jenga, and larger than man-​size Connect-​Four game.
No food or liquor available on site but you can bring it in and it’s welcome on the premises — out on patio or indoor communal area. After having had enough at a venue that night, we met some interesting guests and good conversation with other guests on the patio. Some locals just hanging out and others from across the country.
Not a new build hotel but a remodel of an older hotel. The room wasn’t large but plenty of room for our short stay. The bathroom was tight but had great lighting. A magnetic dart board meant playing darts while laying in bed. A backgammon board sat on the long open desk/​countertop.
We didn’t need much when we were there and our experience with the staff was great. Check-​In was quick and painless. There is onsite parking with in and out privileges — $ 49 plus tax. We weren’t driving anywhere until our time to leave so we opted to park in a lot a block up the street — $ 30 for our duration just over 24 hours.
It’s not our preferred area to visit in the City but it is a great spot if you intend to hit the Embarcadero, Piers, Jefferson St areas.

Booking last-​minute trips can be a challenge. Just ask my wife.
Whenever I book trips, I try to book as far in advance as possible. However, the missus is another story. So, when booking a last-​minute birthday weekend for me, she ended up paying a pretty penny for a hotel room. The cost for a 1-​night stay was $ 300. But, let’s also keep in mind that not only was it last minute, but it was right next to the Fisherman’s Wharf.
Price aside, for now at least, let’s talk about the actual stay. Well, check in was easy. The lobby was clean and the clerks were super friendly. Getting to the room was an adventure for a few reasons. One, I wasn’t provided a map and there are no maps posted anywhere. Two, since my room number began with a 4, I figured I was on the 4^th floor. But, there was no elevator near the stairs I was at. When I finally got to the 4^th floor, it was basically all the way on the other side. And three, which is kind cool, the carpet. I wish there was an easy way to describe it. But, basically, if you look at the carpet 5 feet in front of you when walking, you feel like Alice In Wonderland!
The best way to describe the actual room is comfortable with a modern feel. The beds are comfortable and the amenities are plentiful. You have your Keurig with coffee and tea, 2 FREE bottles of water, and soaps and other bathroom essentials. However, the one thing I LOVED the most was that instead of bar soap, they actually have the pump-​style hand soap. Why in God’s good name hasn’t a hotel done this sooner??? They also have lotion like that, too! Also in the room are some games, like Backgammon and a magnetic dart board! As fun as the room is, it also did have an issue. They have this box around the air-​condition. I’m not a physics major, but if the air is blowing to the top of the box, it’s going to be hard to get out of the box and cool the room! We had to call maintenance twice, and finally I asked them to just leave it open and voila, cool air in the room!
Another plus with the hotel is all the activities you can do. The lobby is a nice place to sit and read a book. They also have tables that you can plug your electronics into. There is also an adjacent game room that has a ping pong table, some TVs, some board games, a pool table, and shuffleboard. Then, when you go outside, there are some interesting structures like a computer fire-​pit and a fountain. But, even more cool, they have some cool games like a cylindrical ping pong table, a giant Connect Four, and a life-​size ball maze.
Unfortunately, let’s talk a little more about pricing again. In addition to the price of the room, there is also a charge for parking, $ 49 plus tax per day! Ouch! But, it is SF after all. But, ouch! One good thing is that if you check late, you essentially get the next day of parking for free. Even if you check out. In other words, I checked in around 8pm. But, I was able to stay in the parking until 6pm. That helps A LOT when it comes to SF.
A great stay that I didn’t want to end. Not many times I can say that about a hotel. Disneyland, maybe. But, not a hotel.

I really wanted to give this 4 stars but there was so much frustration revolving our stay here. First I will say, location is fantastic. It’s located right by Fisherman’s Wharf, Pier 39, a Rainforest Café, many shops, tours, and restaurants.
The lobby is pretty neat too and I love the décor. They also have a great patio area with fire pits and several outdoor games but these areas would be phenomenal of there was a lobby bar perhaps. The outdoor lounging Rea is fantastic but it’s missing that one ingredient, food, and a bar.
The indoor lounging area has a pool table and other games and a fantastic little area to chat or just lounge, but again no bar or restaurant.
Now the cons. We were both beyond frustrated with the parking situation but I guess that’s as good as it gets. Like many reviews I’ve read, the card keys are awful! For $ 50+ for parking I expect the frigging machine to work. But no, we’d always get stuck either trying to get in or get out of the parking. It was such as waste a time and we must’ve changed cards several times because they would stuff working.
Again, the key cards are just awful and the bane of our stay here. Picture having to go to the bathroom really really badly expecting to be able to enter your room… uh no. That’s not happening here. Heaven forbid your keycard touches your phone or a credit card or anything. Even when inserting the key correctly still no luck. After many filed attempts I with the correct method, I tried several other methods and nothing worked. Then the staff talks to you like you don’t know how to use your keys… Um sorry but it’s your keys and equipment!
The elevator ls are older and bumpy and the permits to them are «on file». Last time I checked they are suppose to be present in the elevator car and with inspection records. Not here!
The rooms themselves were nicely decorated and very clever but to get to them you walk through narrow hallways and our was always blocked by house keeping carts. The floor plan is a maze with long hallways. When we got to our room I don’t feel like the bathroom was clean as I found several hairs that were not ours and we hadn’t even used the bathroom.
On the next day I really didn’t like that our stuff looked like it was moved, particularly my tooth brush. It had no business moving from one side of the edge of the tub to the other.
So night time and early morning were dreadful because of the poor sound proofing. You can hear everything that goes on everywhere, the annoying kids running and screaming, the drunkies, the loud tourists, housekeeping, etc. It was very aggravating when you’re trying to sleep at 8 am.
Despite all of this our stay was ok but it could’ve been better. I love that they are pet-​friendly though we didn’t bring our dog.
