Best Western Plus The Tuscan

I loved this place. It felt like FS Marriott or Hilton. Both the look of the hotel as the quality of the service. We were very professionally and friendly welcomed, the lobby area was really nice as was our room. Not really big but you’re off course in San Francisco. Room Service was quick (quicker than in many other hotels I have experienced). Location of the hotel is really good for Fisherman’s Wharf. Many restaurants and bars nearby. Prices of the mini bar and the restaurant are fair. (Much more fair than often in other hotels) What was expensive I found was the parking (valet only). If you plan to park overnight and need no in-​out privileges there are cheaper options nearby.
TIP: if you’re looking for a healthy breakfast check out the nearby hollywood café that offers great breakfast with large fruit bowls.

$ 55 for parking! I got a reservation through priceline and found out I was overcharged $ 50 too. I am pissed.

I think it”s a good place to stay for a few nights. Maybe the area around the building isn’t very interesting, but the hotel itself is pretty enough. Spacious rooms, very clean and elegant. Beds are big and comfortable. Good selection of TV channels. Nice bathroom with al the amenities. Enviromentally responsible cleaning practices. Staff at the lobby very helpful and pleasant.
We were there only one night, but would be happy to stay again.

Worst experience I’ve ever had. I had dyed my hair before going on this trip. While there I showered and used one towel for the whole trip on my hair because the dye sometimes comes out during the first few washes. I blow dried my hair each night before I went to bed to avoid damaging any sheets/​pillow cases etc. After checking out, a week later I get a $ 250 charge on my card for «deep cleaning». When I called to inquire about it, they said the towels and carpet were damaged with hair dye.
Firstly, I have dyed my hair multiple times, stayed at many hotels, and never had this issue. I dry my hair with white towels at home and the dye comes out after 1 wash.
Secondly, the carpet at the hotel was a dark navy blue. to stain a carpet like that it would have had to be bleach which I did not have. And any color that accidentally hit the carpet would be droplets from wet hair.
I was really disappointed when I tried to talk to someone about the situation and all they wanted was to confirm my credit card was the correct one I wanted being charged.
Super disappointing.

Hotel was clean and staff was friendly. The hotel is only a few blocks from fisherman’s wharf and a some really good restaurants. I would definitely stay here if we were back in the San Fran area.

For the price I paid (in the $ 300 range) this was a bad deal, even by SF standards. First, if you are staying on the street side of the building, even on the 4^th floor like us, you will FEEL every trash truck, car stereo, bus, or any other noise. It is relatively quiet between 12 – 05. But, at 05.00, let’s get it on. Staff are nice, bed was great, room was clean, and, if you like the Wharf area (I don’t), then the location is fine. Yet again, I have been reminded that the Financial District or Union Square offers the best sleep in SF. PS: Don’t believe sites like
that label this 4 star. It is a pure 3 star. In all fairness, I bet the sleep at the nearby Sheraton was equally bad, although I imagine they invest more in soundproof windows.
Price + noise = fail.

The rooms are extremely small! I was originally charged $ 50 for overnight parking but then got an extra charge to my credit card for $ 12.70 on top of that. I would not recommend staying at this hotel. The only good thing about it is the location.

Bottom Line: More like a boutique hotel than a Best Western.
I ended up staying at the Best Western Plus, The Tuscan awhile back because (1) I am a sucker for Kimpton Hotels and (2) I liked that it was close to a grocery store and easily accessible to tourist attractions. Since I stayed at this hotel, the Kimpton has divested themselves of the Tuscan and several other properties. This particular property, along with some other former Kimptons (like the Argonaut) is run by Noble House so I don’t know how that may have changed the hotel. However, one thing I know didn’t change is the location of the The Tuscan. If you are visiting San Francisco to tour around, this is a great location to call your home away from home. Here is why I liked this location:
— It’s basically across from a Safeway and around the block from Trader Joe’s so you can stock up on drinks and snacks for your trip
— The hotel is two blocks from Fisherman’s Wharf. Yes, its touristy but it still kinda fun to check out. Also, if you need some cheep and cheesy eats for your young family, Fisherman’s Wharf is a good place for that.
— If you are looking for the Anglin brothers, the hotel is about five blocks from the Alcatraz Ferry Landing.
— The hotel is about one block from the Powell-​Mason Cable Car terminus. (At the intersection of Taylor St. and Bay St.)
— The bus stop is right across the street and those Muni busses will whisk you away to delicious restaurants and fun hot spots.
— The Tuscan is also easily accessible to the Streetcar. I recommend taking it to the historic Ferry Building Marketplace.
Anyway, we booked two rooms here for a girls getaway and overall the rooms were nice. The thermostat didn’t seem to be quite accurate but overall, everything was good. In addition to the comfy rooms, we really enjoyed the elegant lobby and the nightly wine reception. Finally, we enjoyed having Café Pescatore next door for an easy and more than adequate morning breakfast.

I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. I usually stay at the Holiday Inn a block or two over but this time the best western was cheaper so I went with it.
I arrived earlier than my check in time and they were so accommodating. They got me all check in and in a room immediately! The staff was friendly, rooms were nice, and bed was comfy.
My only complaints would be that the WiFi was SUPER slow. It kept stopping whatever I was doing to buffer but hey! At least they had free wifi! And secondly, I know this isn’t the hotels fault but people were constantly slamming doors, late at night and early morning. That was frustrating.
I would definitely stay here again though!

The hotel was clean and the room was decent. The location was walking distance to fisherman’s wharf and pier 39. The parking was valet only and cost $ 50. We didn’t think that it was a 4 star quality hotel, because there were a lot of imperfections in the room. We did have a great view of the Coit tower from our window though.

I ended up staying at this hotel because I decided that I didn’t want to drive back to LA the same day. It was literally the first hotel I saw and i have absolutely no regrets.
First off, it’s basically instant access to Fisherman’s Wharf. It’s only two very short blocks up from the pier and a couple small blocks away from Ghiradelli square — which means it’s only a pleasant ten minute walk from viewpoint where you can see both Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz.
The first person I met, Daniel in valet was super nice and guided me in. Then The office manager Tom was super upbeat and pleasant. He even told us about the happy hour wine menu which btw is actually at the restaurant next door (try that place too. Clam chowder was awesome).
My actual room was great. Bathroom was pretty big and clean, beds were soft, and it was overall a very comfortable room.
Fast forward to my check out, I was charged $ 170 for the room instead of the $ 132 I was told I’d be charged ! It wasn’t the $ 170 room charged that bothered me, it was the fact that I booked it based on the $ 132 and it just caught me by surprise. The lady at the front desk wasn’t really open to helping me get the rate I was promised (she was pretty polite about it though), but I really can’t blame her since it was pretty hectic so I decided to call in the next day to see what they could do for me. I was told that the man who told me it was $ 132 to begin with was looking at the wrong room and adjusted the price for me. the service alone is incredible and that’s enough for me to choose to stay here again

I haven’t stayed at the hotel myself — but Michelle the concierge recently helped me arrange a surprise for some family staying there and it was handled flawlessly. Thank you Michelle!
If the service staff is this good then I’m sure the property is first rate as well!

One of my worst hotel stays ever. My first ever Kimpton stay and hopefully my last. The lobby is nice — don’t let it fool you.
We booked a room through a third-​party site and requested a rollaway bed/​cot for our child in writing in advance at the time of booking.
When we arrived, the woman at the front desk told us that there are no rollaway beds in the hotel, period. There was nothing on the booking ad stating this. Most hotels do offer cots or rollaways. I explained that we made this request in writing in advance and she said — I’m not kidding — «We can’t be responsible for what our listings say on third-​party sites.»
Oh really? Who is responsible if not the hotel for its own listings, on its own site and elsewhere? And how does that excuse ignoring our written request and failing to contact us to let us know that no rollaways or cots are available? The hotel easily could have called us so that we could change our reservation or cancel it altogether rather than having us show up unaware and being unapologetic about having nowhere to put our daughter.
They gave us a pile of blankets for our daughter to sleep on the floor. I asked the woman if they could please put us on a waiting list to switch to a room with 2 beds when one opened up. The curt reply: «There is no waiting list.» Absolutely the worst hotel customer service I’ve ever encountered.
The room itself was tiny (smaller than NYC tiny) and FILTHY. Our «fresh remote» had a layer of dust and grime on it. There was a thick layer of dust all over everything.
The bathroom was in poor repair, with hair from previous guests everywhere. Some of the hair was painted into the ceiling! Mystery hairs on our bed linens.
The whole time we were here, they only provided towels for two people. I was reluctant to call downstairs for more after my initial front desk experience.
Never again. Families with children, avoid at all costs! And don’t believe a thing about your room on third-​party booking sites — as they told me, they’re «not responsible.»
This is also not a place you want to stay if you need a disability-​accessible room. We received one (didn’t need it, but it was what was available) and the wooden seat in the shower was dirty and gross. If I had a disabled relative, I would not want them to sit on that! The roll-​in shower flooded the entire bathroom every time we used it, making the floor very slippery. The second shower head for the shower seat was broken and held together with tape.
Update: Ed S. (business owner) contacted me and is assisting me to make this right. He assured me that he would be addressing these issues immediately, particularly the cleanliness of the room. I am satisfied with his response and help solving the problem thus far.

Had another good stay at the Tuscan. We love the location because Pier39 and the seafood stands/​restaurants are an easy walk. Concierge Aiyaz was helpful and efficient in booking our trip to Muir Woods. A special thank you to Lita who was wonderful and took the time to help us with our room reservations both on our last trip and for this visit. I was great to meet you!

The price was really steep. Given that this is San Francisco, and peak tourist season, it makes sense. However, the room itself doesn’t really reflect such high prices.
It was a nice room, fairly small, but comfortable in its own right. There were a few amenities: Mini Bar, Free Wifi, Coffee, Tea, etc.
For some, this may just be the perfect fit. But usually when I come to SF, I like to stay in a less «trafficy» area. If your intent is to see major tourist attractions and have good accessibility, this is an ideal location.
On a side note. IF possible, and I recommend this for anyone traveling to San Francisco. Do not bring your car. Parking is expensive EVERYWHERE. Whether it be at your hotel, or any variety of parking lots/​garages.
I unfortunately learned this the hard way, as someone who was taking a road trip and needed transportation. Parking fees are ridiculous, and if you’re a skittish driver, you will more likely than not find difficulty navigating such unpredictable streets.

We recently stayed at the hotel for a night prior to our cruise departure. The hotel is beautiful, quaint and has a small town feel in the middle of the city.
The location was perfect to walk around town for the day and close to the port, if you are leaving on a ship. The cab ride from the hotel to the port is a short 4 to 5 minutes.
Immediately upon check-​in we felt at home. The staff was welcoming and were more than happy to accommodate our early arrival. Our rooms were ready and waiting for us. We dropped our bags and set off to explore the city.
Returning in the late afternoon, the wine reception was just starting which was a nice way to relax and settle in for the evening.
The rooms are nice, very clean and beds quite comfortable. Our room was on the first level and faced the street, so was a bit noisy, but you are in the heart of a large city and it quieted down later at night.
After we spent the day out, none of us wanted to venture out to the many great San Francisco restaurants. We ended up staying at the hotel after the wine reception to have dinner at Pescatore. The food was excellent as was the service. I highly recommend the restaurant too.
We would definitely stay again.
Room Tip: May want to consider a higher floor and a room overlooking the courtyard, if you need quiet for sleep.

3.5 stars. I spent the last few nights at this hotel this week. It was pleasant and everything went without a hitch. The front desk employees and doormen were fine. The housekeepers were nice. It was terrific that they had water and refreshments in the lobby. The room was clean & nice. I was on the top/​3^rd floor, which didn’t have any kind of view at all… just a brick wall, but that’s OK.
The mattress and pillow were too firm for my taste, but what can you do, unless you pack/​buy another pillow. The pillow was also too puffy, I’m glad I didn’t get a crook in my neck surprisingly. The flooring was so hard… not good when you’ve already pounded the San Francisco streets all day and your feet are hurting! And I was wearing thong slippers as it is. The main importance is how well a sleep I had, which was OK.
The hotel itself was in a good location, just a 2-​block walk from Fisherman’s Wharf. I felt safe there. Would I stay there again? Well, I’m the type who likes to try new places/​things all the time, unless it was truly exceptional, so that probably answers your question.

I came here on a weekend night with family. Our room was a suite with a king-​size bed and a sofa bed.
I would like to give a 3 star for this hotel.
The staff gave us a warm welcome once we arrived. The front desk person let us check in a few hours earlier than 3pm, the standard time. Free wifi was offered in the hotel room. And of course, the location is nice with close proximity to Fisherman’s Wharf.
However, there were several down sides of staying at this hotel. At night, the temperature dropped to quite low in SF. So I turned on the heater, an old one. The heater started to make very loud sound that I was not able to fall asleep. So I had to turn off the machine and put on my jacket. What was more, our room was located at the corner of the second floor. Which meant constant noises of all kinds coming from the streets. Well with a combination of cold room and noises, I only slept about 4 hours in total. By the way, the price was not cheap, in the higher $ 400s after applying AAA discount (partially because I did the booking the day before).
Overall, I would not recommend this hotel if you are a light sleeper, or your body doesn’t resist low temperature well. I hope that this hotel will upgrade the sound insulation and the heater in the near future.

I really liked this hotel! When in San Fran again, I would definitely stay back at this boutique location. The location is in a pretty safe area, as well as close to public transportation and Fisherman’s Wharf is about two blocks away!
Service. Upon arrival, the staff was professional and just friendly. Giving me advice about the area, the weather and everything. They truly made my trip pleasant… And a plus to making sure I knew about the wine hour. He must have saw the wine love in my eyes. I truly love the staff!!!
The room was cute!!! Very clean and comfortable. No issues. The bed was comfortable and no issues (because I fully examine beds). The bathroom was wonderful as well. The window led to a cute little outside scenery they set up and I just thought that was so cute.
I truly was comfortable at this hotel and felt this was a good choice. I highly recommend this hotel. Note. It’s close to the Wharf and Pier 39, but keep in mind to get to other locations you may be interested in, may be a little ride and would require public transportation or my favorite… Über!!!

Clean, tastefully decorated, great service and walking distance to lots of great stuff… like many reviews stated it is close to the pier and waterfront and lots of swanky and pricey dining options.
For me the even better fact is that it is a quick walk to North Beach. I end up in North Beach almost every time I visit San Francisco… kind of like I ended up in the North End nearly every time I was in Boston. Go figure. Seriously, go ahead. I’ll wait.

Hochzeitsreise gehabt und dieses Hotel gebucht. Definitiv empfehlenswert. Besonders gut hat uns der Service, das Ambiente und das Zimmer gefallen. Die Lobby lädt zum verweilen ein.
Das dazugehörenden Café Pescatore hat unseren gesamt Eindruck nur noch verstärkt. Hier haben wir sehr gutes Essen (egal ob Frühstück oder Dinner) geniessen dürfen. Das Personal war über alle Maßen sehr zuvorkommend.
Nicht so schön und deswegen nicht volle Punktzahl sind die Preise fürs Parken 45 DOLLAR pro Nacht Tipp: Auf der Hompage des Hotels geben sie hin und wieder mal nen Parkgutschein raus, das sparte uns wenigstens 5 Dollar die Nacht.

Ein nicht allzu teures Restaurant sehr nahe an der Fishermans Wharf. Es ist in gehobenem Stil eingerichtet. Die Kellner sind sehr aufmerksam und das Essen durchaus gut. Der Best Western Tuscan Inn, welcher das Restaurant beherbergt, bietet sich als Nachtlager an. Zentral zur Wharf und den Sehenwürdigkeiten.
