Description

Specialties

Want to go to a down earth «non Marina» Marina bar? Fondly referred to by regulars as «The ‘Shoe,» we pride ourselves on being the «Non-Marina» Marina bar. Our tavern offers two pool tables, a gargantuan big screen satellite television, a jukebox and 15 excellent beers on tap as well as a full bar. Our fabulous staff will welcome you with a smile and adrink. As we sponsor men’s and women’s sporting teams, it is not unusual to see a men’s softball team partying it up with a hot bachelorette party. Come for a toast or hang out and watch a World Cup soccer Game.

History

Established in 1934.

It’s been The Horseshoe Tavern since 1934 and was recently named a San Francisco historical building. The present owner, Stefan Wever bought it in 1991 and has owned it now for 23 years.

Meet the Business Owner

Stefan W.

Business Owner

My name is Stefan Wever and I’ve been the owner of the Horseshoe Tavern since 1991. Before that I was a pitcher for the New York Yankees but tore my rotator cuff in my pitching arm in my major league debut in 1982, hence the poor stats. I never pitched again. I came back to San Francisco, where I have lived since 1970 (Lowell H.S. to UCSB and finally Cal where I got my degree ion Eng. Lit. Upon my return I bounced around wondering what to do with my life and tended bar at Silhouettes in North Beach (a very popular 50’s dance club) and Pierce St. Annex, which is now Matrix Fillmore. A fellow bartender and I decided we were tired of working for other people so started looking for our own place. A friend told me to check out the Horseshoe which was dark and dingy so I was skeptical but I went in and saw the big back room and we talked the legendary owner, Vic Ramos, into selling it to us. We made a few changes (pool tables, new juke box, 15 beers on tap and some nice old artwork.
