Such amazing service, and a great selection of hardware as well as household items. They are so friendly here and will help you with anything you need. After many lost keys, they will always make me a new one for only 2 $! If you live in an old house and have locks from the early 1900s, they have two keys that will most likely fit hose locks! I thought it was so cool that we could open these after nearly 60 years of being shut!

Nicely organized and very clean — not a speck of dust anywhere– that’s how I like my hardware stores.
(Not that I’m handy but one still needs the occasional picture hanger or faucet connector for a portable dishwasher.)
In this visit, I had two keys cut and they were speedy and accurate. Easy metered parking made it a breeze get in and out, fast.

It may be a little more than the newly opened Target or even the Standard 5&10 but this is the real deal, old school hardware store. (And, a disclaimer, they may not be more expensive.)They always solve the issue in 5 minutes or less, are always pleasant and I don’t have to go back again and again. Time=Money and this place saves me some.
Plus, added bonus? A nice «housewares» section where I can always find not run-​of-​the-​mill stocking stuffers and other holiday gifts.

As I live 4 blocks away (for 4 years now) I always go here. It’s the best hardware store I’ve ever been to because it’s casual but 5 star service. Both guys here that work the floor are the most helpful and nice guys. The cashier and the owners are also exceptional. Their service is such a relief after the service you get at Home Depot. It seems uncanny but they virtually always have exactly what I came in for. They are knowledgeable and have had great advice for my questions. I can’t say enough good about these people. I even get my kitchen knives sharpened here and that service is great too. I wholeheartedly recommend you to go here.

This was one of the first places I visited after moving nearby, after realizing that yes, you actually need tools to assemble Ikea furniture sometimes, and it really made me feel welcome to the neighborhood! The employees were really warm and friendly, and helped me pick out the best options. I really appreciated that the man who helped me pointed me in the direction of a screwdriver with interchangeable heads, instead of letting me continue to buy the multiple screwdrivers I’d picked out, even though they would have made a bigger sale had I gone with my original items. Everything seemed to be pretty affordable. The older guy who usually helps me out recognizes that I’d a 20 year old girl with zero knowledge of tools and hardware, but doesn’t patronize me. It’s really nice to find places in the city with such a small-​town, personable vibe.

I must say, this is amongst one of the more helpful hardware stores I’ve been in in San Francisco. I’ve decided to tackle a couple (small) projects around my home and needed a few items to make the fixes possible. The woman who works at the cash register is very helpful and will leave her «post» to help you with whatever you need. We chatted a bit about the different types of lightbulbs and she even educated me a bit on which were necessary and why.
My favorite part about the store was when they didn’t have my part, instead of telling me to come back in a week (when the next order would come in) they directed me to the closest hardware store to find my product! They were very sorry they didn’t have my dimmer switches but everything was good.
I’ll come back when I need more items in the future; they have quite a variety of items so I’ll only come back when I’m on a specific mission or else I’ll end up buying more than what I need.

The resident handyman fixed my irreplaceable sunglasses where superglue couldn’t come to its rescue. He came up with an ingenious way of «gluing» the arm — with a clear plastic tube! I went to a couple of sunglasses shops and called many eyeglass stores, but they all couldn’t help.
He wouldn’t accept extra cash for what turned out to be not an easy job — what an honest guy!
The owner here is very friendly and helpful too. I love this store!

Being one who loves to support local business, I unfortunately, tend to find myself at places like Home Depot & Lowes when it comes to hardware & home repair supplies. NOT ANYMORE! After living in SF for several years, I no longer have to waste time and money driving outside the city for well-​priced hardware supplies and what not. Hardware Unlimited is my savoir! They are so convenient and not to mention the nicest staff I have ever encountered. Last but not least, this is the only place to get keys made — they have A+ service and extremely great prices.

The only place with the part I needed! I tried 2 other hardware stores in the area looking for a particular replacement flapper for my toilet and no luck, but these guys came through. Staff is friendly and abundant, and the aisles are wider and shelves better organized than the other nearby stores. This will now be my first stop when I’m channeling my inner Bob Vila.

This place is so helpful to me and my guys. Its located in the heart of Pac Hts.
I come here often for the oddest little plumbing and electrical items and they have it.
Not only do they have it, but they charge affordable for these items.
Some of these small hardware shops charge outrageous, but here at Hardware Unlimited, your comprobal to a Ace or smaller mom and pops shop pricing.
If you know Sf, its hard to find a hardware shop that carries small items, and if it was not for this place, i would be spending alot of window time and loosing my parking space to go look for parts to finish my radiant and heating jobs.

This is the kind of local store that really makes you proud to live in San Francisco. The service I got from these folks was so head and shoulders above any Lowe’s or Home Depot experience it made me think hard about really trying to support places like this. Every single person I spoke to there was so helpful, patient and friendly.
I’ll be honest, I had tried to buy a new grill from Amazon. It was cheap, free shipping, etc. but it showed up broken. TWICE.
Enter Hardware Unlimited. Only $ 20 more than Amazon and they’d bring it to the house — for free. Great! When it finally arrived, not only did Robert deliver it, he delivered it assembled. Hooked everything up, showed us how it worked, answered questions, etc.
THAT IS AMAZING SERVICE.
Please visit this place. We have to keep supporting businesses like these in San Francisco.

It doesn’t get better than this! The most friendly and helpful staff work here, prices are great and they are eager to help you save money AND get out quickly. As soon as you walk in the door someone offers to help you, they take you there instantly and describe your options honestly.
Who knew people could be so passionate about a hardware store? I’ve been converted!

Easy to find staff to help you, everyone is incredibly nice, keys made in a blink of the eye at about $ 2 per key, pretty decent selection of hardware and housewares. Street parking is usually fairly easy here as well.

I love being able to support independent, locally owned businesses. Hardware Unlimited is just another example of why this is the case.
First and foremost is the level of service the employees provide here. They are very knowledgeable and are willing to spend as much time as you need to answer your questions. They do all this while being friendly and listening to your needs. I have been here on many occasions ready to buy something and after talking to the employees a cheaper alternative has been recommended… that’s customer service!
On top of the great service, the selection of items here is incredible. I yet to find myself in need of an item they do not have. The items they stock should satisfy most of your hardware needs. They also have an impressive amount of kitchen gadgets along with bathroom and office items.
Hardware Unlimited is what a hardware store should be… great service with a great selection. This would be my hardware store of choice, even if I didn’t live two blocks away!

There is something nice about living in a big city that still has small town charm. Hardware Unlimited is one of those things. Every staff member is knowledgeable and helpful. If an item happens to not be in the store the owner or staff will try their hardest to find it for you through an outside retailer. I have never been turned away or not helped right away in a cheerful manner.
It is refreshing to have a store that pretty much has everything I would need for my home. Whether it is hardware, kitchen or something for your bathroom I bet you can find it at this wonderful gem in Laurel Heights.

One thing good about city living is that you can usually walk to a hardware store. The only problem is that most city hardware stores aren’t worth walking to. Hardware Unlimited is an exception.
Each time I’ve come here I’ve found the customer service unbelievable. I’m not at DIY-​kinda-​guy. These folks are on the verge of transforming me. Whether it’s putting in a new spray nozzle for the sink, or recommending jars for pickling, I’ve received nothing but extraordinary help.
If you’ve ever been lost in one of those giant hardware store, why don’t you walk over to this place. It’ll restore your faith in local businesses. Bigger is not always better. Hardware Unlimited will earn your business and trust.

I had a really fantastic experience at Hardware Unlimited today.
Let me get out that we have many great local hardware stores in SF, including Hardware Unlimited. As an experienced do-​it-​yourselfer, I must ask your forgiveness for my agenda supporting good local local hardware stores.
Today’s project is a skeleton key for an interior door for my Victorian. Having done this before, I picked a slow time to go to the store and took the lock mechanism (note — if you need a lot of help, don’t expect to get it at peak hours).
So we tried all the skeleton keys, but the lock didn’t work. This could have either been because the lock was stuck /​broken, or they didn’t have the right key. The clerk guessed that there was paint inside the mechanism, so he opened it up and found a glob of ancient paint which he cleaned out, at which point we found the right key.
The key was $ 1.39. I insisted they take another $ 5 for the service.
Why is this such a big deal? Big box or poor hardware stores wouldn’t have provided the extra service. Having been down this road, the alternatives to getting this mechanism to work were massively time consuming. Bottom line — the extra 10 minutes of knowledgeable service was a huge value to me, and probably is to you as well.

Best store of this type in SF. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. Local owned for more than 25+ years. Great phone service, returns calls and helpful. Lots of small appliances and helpful items for apartment and house living in SF. If they don’t have it, they sometimes can order it…
Bought my first grill (charcoal Weber) and gas grill (Weber) from them as they deliver for a small fee. While I reviewed gas grills on the Weber site, they were much more knowledgeable in terms of buying one vs. the other model… (why not to buy a Weber Q if you have room…). They also assemble, which is helpful as it would take me hours and hours to assemble with much frustration.
Better than Ace Hardware. Support local merchants or else we won’t be SF in the future.

I kinda of shocvked there aren’t more reviews for what might be the best hardware store in the Bay area — which is saying a lot given the many fine hardware stores that have resisted the encroachments of blights such as Gloom Depot and (B)Lowe’s.
Simply put, Hardware Unlimited is the only place you have to go for 99% of home furnishings that do not involve furniture or lighting. My most recent experience involved gas grills — this is the only hardware store in town with a gas grill in late Fall — everybody else is sold out, Oh and buy the way, the lady who manages grills can tell you what next year’s Weber models will look like and what they will cost.
Everytime I leave here I am glad I went inside, and I always leave with something I have been meaning to get but haven’t figured out where to go. Great store, great selection, most of all great service.
