Geneva Watch Repair

I have too many watches — if that is even possible. So, there is always one or more at any given time needing a battery replacement. My former go-​to watch repair closed shop last year so, by the time the new year rolled around, I had accumulated several watches needing new batteries. A chance conversation at a holiday party provided me with a recommendation for Geneva watch repair.
Three weeks ago, I showed up at their doors with half a dozen of my watches in hand. A day later, they were all done for less than $ 15 per watch — beating what I used to pay my former watch repair place by several dollars!
Last week, I upped the ante and took in two watches — one needed a couple of links added to the metal wristband (so I put on some weight last year!) and the other requiring a replacement leather wristband. Both watches are more than 10 years old so neither wristband are still available from the manufacturer. No problem for Geneva. For the one watch band, they modified a leather band to fit the unusual shape of my watch — it looks like they were made to go together. For the metal watch band, they found some metal links from another brand and modified them to look like the links on my watch. Total cost for parts and labor was less than $ 50.
I am a devoted fan.

Shattered the crystal on an inherited wristwatch that I have so far been unable to find in any watch catalogue or on any website. A huge stroke of bad luck on my part but finding this shop was a stroke of good fortune. The guys there gave me an estimate on the cost of replacing the crystal and told me that they would let me know when the watch was repaired. A few days later, I received a voicemail telling me that my watch was ready for pick up as well as when they would be open. $ 35 all in all for repairs — not bad at all.
Finding the building at 210 Post shouldn’t be too difficult, and the shop is located on the seventh floor immediately to the left of the elevators. Knock on the door and wait for them to buzz you in! The guys there are friendly and super helpful! (Oh, and if you check-​in on Unilocal,it’s 10% off your next repair!)

Needed a battery replacement, was in and out in less than two minutes, cost $ 11. Courteous and quick!

I go once a year to get a battery replacement for my Victorinox or my husband’s Baume Mercier. It takes 5 minutes for ~$ 20 — $ 25 (depends on your replacement battery) + tax.
If you’re looking for a «previously owned» Rolex or other high end watches, they have some too. If I remember correctly, you get a 18-​month warranty for these used watched. 18-​months is good given jewelers in Burlingame give a 12-​month warranty with a higher price tag. Remember you may not get the original watch box for these used watches.

UPDATED: I originally gave them two stars but now I am completely questioning if they have any competency at all. One of the three watches that needed batteries, a surfing watch, was having issues after being used once, the next day after getting the watch back. It was then brought back to Geneva where they put it in their machine to dry it, they think they didn’t seal it correctly. Well, guess what? Theyre machine completely cracked the band of the watch (as seen below). All they did was refund the price of the 3 batteries ($ 32). Are you kidding me?
These people are unprofessional and with break your things. DO NOT GO TO THEM.

We’ve had a good experience with this business before but we will not be going back. My husband brought in 4 watches, three needed batteries and the fourth (a brand new one I just bought him) just simply needed a couple extra holes punched. Well, lets just say I could have done a better job with my eyes clothes. You can see by the picture. And when I called upset the guy admitted that he did a bad job. Thanks for messing up a brand new watch GENEVA WATCH REPAIR.

Fast, friendly guys. Got a battery changed for 10.88. Had it previously done at another place in same building for $ 40! This place rocks. I’ll be back.

$ 10 to fix the band, $ 10 to replace the battery. Done in a couple days. Stoked. :)

Tucked away on the 9^th floor of the Shreve building, this no-​frills watch repair provides speedy and friendly service. I had three watch batteries replaced in under 10 minutes, while I waited. To boot just 10.88 per replacement. Some of the places with storefronts in the area charge a lot more! Will definitely go back, and recommend to friends.

I have had my Movado watch for nearly 20 years. I paid about $ 1K back then … so monetary-​wise, it isn’t that valuable but it is a unique watch that I have sentimental value of. About 4 months ago, I accidentally left my watch in my pocket and place the pants in the washer. Before the washer begins it’s cycle, I realized it and took the watch out. The watch was working fine.
About a month afterward, I noticed some spots on the black dial (I realized it was on the black dial because I was unable to clean it out from the crystal but the watch works fine. About a month ago, the watch stopped … I figured the battery died and thought of a Movado certified repair center to see if I can get those spots cleaned and change the battery.
I live in East Bay so Downtown SF was a bit of a hassle to get to but I figured I do it so I can get my sentimental watch fixed as it is the only Movado certified repair center in Bay Area. I dropped by one Friday and told the guy what had happened. He stated that the mechanism maybe damaged and that battery replacement alone will not suffice. In addition, the spots on the black face cannot be removed … the entire face has to be changed. He advised that I leave the watch there for testing and that he will get back to me. Well, no one called back … so I called them on Monday … a gentleman stated that the mechanism needs replacement in addition to new battery … it will cost $ 200.00 … If I want the black face replaced, it will be additional $ 250.00. That’s $ 450.00 for a 20 year old watch … you do the math to see if that’s worth it or just buy a new one.
So I decided not to have it fixed there … and the gentleman asked why I didn’t want to have it fixed … so I told him … I spent a bit less than $ 1K on the watch 20 years ago … do you think it makes sense to spend another $ 450 just to have it fixed or would it make more sense to put that $ 450 towards a new watch.
Anyway, all along I had figured that I can live with the little spots as long as the watch functions. Being skeptical, I took my watch to a local watch repair shop. The repair guy immediately opened up the watch and said the gasket needs replacement along with the battery. The black face (if I want it changed because of the spots) will be about $ 200.00. So I decided to just have the battery and the gasket replaced and left my watch there. I picked up the watch today (after a week) and paid $ 24.00 for the gasket and battery replacement and now my watch is functioning as before … but still with little spots which isn’t a big deal. I paid $ 24.00 to get my watch working again when the Movado-​Certified repair center quoted me $ 200.00.
Did the Movado-​certified repair center even tested to see if my watch would work just by replacing battery … I doubt it … I am writing this review for all the consumers to see how shady this business is … and always to get a second opinion. Being a Movado-​Certified or Rolex-​Certified means nothing … these people are dishonest and greedy and looking to rip off consumers that have no knowledge of watch repair. These people should be stripped of their certification.

Fast service. Good price for link removal. However, the guy who worked on my watch left a dent on one of the links he worked on. It was a brand new watch and I’m truly sad and shocked:(I might asked him too much for link adjustment, but I believe he still could pay attention on what he was doing.

I would return here but not sure if I would take a very expensive watch for servicing yet at this place.
I had a couple of inexpensive older winding watches from the early 1960s that needed repairs. Geneva Watch was able to repair them for a reasonable rate and sold me a decent leather band for about half the price of Tourneau.

From the time I went in to the time they finished, less than 5mins! Really fast battery change for only $ 10.88!

Running late, watch band decides to break, the place I usually go to wants 20 bucks and needs to keep it overnight. I scramble, find this guy on Unilocal,3 minutes and 10 dollars later I’m good as new.
Looks like I’ve met my new watch repair guy.

There’s nothing better than going into a store and leaving with what you want. Searched «battery watch replacement» and this was the first business that showed up near my area. Took the elevator to the 9^th floor, knocked on the first door to the left, and got buzzed right in. I told the worker I needed a new battery and he came out with a fully working watch in less than 5 minutes. Total cost: $ 10.88. Plus, they accept Visa and Amex. No complaints here– 5 stars.

Went to Downtown watch repair first. They were closed. I turned to my trusted Unilocal friend and went in. I was greeted immediately, out in less than 10 minutes and $ 10, my Rolex watch band was adjusted to perfection.

BEWARE. I went in with an old very valuable Rolex watch that Bonham’s had recently looked at and wanted to buy from me to sell in their NYC auction. This guy, at Geneva Watch Repair (210 Post Street), offered me a ridiculous low balled price. My friend, an elderly lady who was given an 18k gold, diamond and crystal face Rolex, given to her by her grandfather, was offered less than the melt down gold value and when asked about the diamonds, he stated; they’re worthless and would be thrown out. She was offer a few hundred dollars at best. I knew with certainty this guy thought he had 2 stupid old ladies in his shop that he could scam.
I feel people like this need to be exposed. Good luck and don’t trust this guy.

I didn’t come with any advanced watch problems — I just needed a new battery. The watch guy fixed it quickly and inexpensively (under 10 min, ~$ 10).
I tried to buy a new band while I was there, but the watch guy recommended that I instead seek someone who works with leather belts (believe the term is «belterist») to repair my existing one.
I don’t know where to find a «belt guy» ( Unilocal, I guess), but I appreciate the watch guy trying to save me some cash.

I brought my Timex here — held together by tape after a previous watch repair outfit in Berkeley replaced the battery but couldn’t get it closed — and they fixed it in under two minutes! When I tried to pay they refused and called the closure a favor.
These dudes are a class act and I will definitely go to them with any future watch repair work!
