First Step Coding

I am basically a newb to programming. I tried self teaching C# and .Net and hit a wall.
I met Andy for a 2 hour consult.
If your new or relatively new to coding and frustrated. He can help you save time and reduce frustration. Well worth the time and money spent to visit with him.
He asked me what I was looking to accomplish.
I told him:
— I just wanted to code something to do X, Y, Z, A, B, …F.
— At this time, I am NOT seeking to be employed in the industry.
— I just want to be a garage hack and create some useful programs for friends.
He suggested languages, an IDE and other items that would make my first project easier to complete.
He spent some time with me trying to figure out my level of coding experience/​knowledge.
He pointed me to relevant tutorials and other documentation.
He followed up that same day with an email summarizing our visit that included:
— links to the screen shots of our coding time together,
— links to tutorials,
— links to the software I needed to download and install.
He suggested several ways to test if the programs were installed properly.
Then Andy followed up the next day to make sure I had installed the stack correctly and all was working. Even offered to remotely link into my PC to check in on me.
Going forward. I expect that his guidance will be essential when I hit walls as I build this project.
There are too many little things that will bog a newb down
— from proper syntax, to understanding errors messages, to understanding objects, to installing and using the programming tools/​packages and. and…

This is where you want to be if you’re looking to get started with coding. Thinking of a career change, have a specific project in mind, or just interested in learning what you can create with code, you need the fundamentals and First Step gives you that. Our teacher Andy was thorough and helpful, and with the small class size he was able to help us individually when needed while still keeping the class moving along. What’s really nice is that you don’t need to have ANY experience or understanding of coding (I had zero experience myself when I walked in) and Andy took us through the principles and an exercise to complete a functional, rolling die at the end! Would definitely recommend this to anyone considering taking a stab at coding.
