Excelsior Urban Hikes

This tour is one of my favorite absolutely unique things to do in the city. If you’ve seen Dolores Park, thoroughly explored the Mission, Hayes Valley, and even Ocean Beach, then this is the last secretly unexplored frontier of the city.
When I went on the tour, there was only me, one other person, and Christina. Christina and her pitbull are so much fun! She was warm, friendly, incredibly personable, and her cheerful upbeat personality made the tour feel more like a close-​knit group of friends exploring a part of town. I liked that. I liked that she didn’t recite a million facts and ramble on about unimportant things.
Expect lots of uphills (great butt workout) and amazing views. I loved how Christina pointed out quirky things like a neighbor’s window that was completely decked out with coconuts, a haunted house, and various graffiti pieces.
I highly recommend this to anyone looking for something different, unique, and close-​knit. :)

My friend and I splurged on an Excelsior Urban Hike when we saw it advertised on a deal-​a-​day site. I’d say overall it was a unique experience, but I wasn’t particularly impressed with the knowledge of our tour guide. I felt like we had paid to go on a walk with her and her pup. This is not to say it wasn’t interesting; we probably would not have ventured to this part of town without knowing about this hiking group. It was neat to walk within a neighborhood and then into a park. Our «tour guide» was very nice and chill. She shared some knowledge about the area, but it felt more like paying to go on a walk that she would have taken anyway. Either way, there are some cool photos that came out of the hike!
