Diego Gomez is the native San Franciscan also known as «Trangela Lansbury!» He is SFWEEKLY’s «Best Bearded Lady» & in 2011 & 2013, he made the SF Bay Guardian’s «Hot Pink List»! In 2012 he was Artist-​in-​Resident @ Providence, RI’s «AS220» & upon his return was hired to fashion illustrate at the De Young for the Jean Paul Gaultier’s «Paris Is Burning» night! That September, Diego held the panel discussion «Homo Superior: Queering Comics, Costumes as Drag & Gender Equality» at Stan Lee’s «ComikazeExpo» Comic Book Convention in Venice, CA & went on to co-​curate «Queering Mythologies» for the National Queer Arts Festival! Diego’s been in 2 Cockettes musicals, art directed magazines, illustrated & designed for Exploratorium, SF AIDS Foundation & Glamazonia: The Uncanny Super Tranny!

I have worked with Diego in two projects now. Unconventional presentations for big technical conferences. He took my badly drawn sketches and turn them into amazing slides with great fun style. Diego is very laid back and super professional. He asks questions and is open to discussing multiple ideas. The two presentations were great successes and a lot of people asked ‘who drew these?’ I just replied: ‘My friend Diego of course.’

I am a graphic designer and I contract Diego to create illustrations and infographics for me when, frankly, the design level is beyond my skill set.
Diego is able to create original and highly usable icons, illustrations and graphics that meet the needs of my picky corporate clients — even when my direction is minimal or vague. When I published a local magazine, I commissioned multiple illustrations from Diego and collaborated with him on a high-​concept comic spread. I was so thrilled with his talent and his professionalism that I hired him as Designer. He created a scaleable aesthetic, from typography to color schemes, surprising me with a mastery of software to add to his mastery of pen-​on-​paper illustration. What I loved about working with Diego was his can-​do attitude, his practical and candid expectations management throughout the process and his rare ability to combine aesthetic talent with conceptual talent.

Diego did two portraits of me — one of myself as Magneto and another as Storm from X-​Men. They were such beautiful (and flattering) images and he did them so quickly and for such a reasonable fee. Diego’s creativity and skill amaze me. He’s a great and generous talent.

I often find myself seeing art around the Bay Area and saying «OMG that looks like Diego’s work!» only to have it pointed out to me that it is his work. I always feel excited to see what part of his inner world he has chosen to share with us. I especially love his comic/​graphic novel work.

I first worked with Diego when my band, Crackerjack Highway, had a visual concept. I had asked a mutual friend «Do you know someone who can paint me this: a human rocker baby raised by 1950’s squirrel parents?» Diego was the answer and he didn’t disappoint. He designed the front, back and inside of our CD (Raised By Squirrels) for a reasonable price. He nailed the concept, and he was easy to work with to boot. I liked Diego’s work so much that I then approached him for a portrait piece, which was executed in a very different style (i.e. dude is versatile!)
This guy is very creative and very talented and very easy to work with. I loathe the day when he becomes so big that he charges the money he is actually worth…
