I am completely traumatized by my experience with defEYEned, and just writing this review makes my eyes well up with tears. I’m devastated at the state of my lashes right now, and my wedding is two weeks away.
Let me start by giving credit where credit is due: the receptionist was kind and professional throughout the entire ordeal. She seemed concerned, and tried to take care of me — but read on for what happened. Unfortunately, her kindness doesn’t make up for my overall experience and I’m still devastated about everything that happened.
This was my first time getting lash extensions — I decided to try them about three weeks before my wedding (thank god I didn’t do it for the first time the week of the wedding). I figured that three weeks was ample time to decide if I liked them, and if I wanted them for the wedding day. It was a bad idea to try something new so close to the wedding date, but I didn’t expect things to go so terribly wrong. All of this was clear to the lash artist — she knew that this was my first time and that my wedding was coming up.
The application itself was relatively painless (I laid there for about an hour), except that the fumes from the glue did sting my eyes — looking back, this should’ve been a sign that things were not going well or that too much glue was being used, but I was reassured at the time that it was normal. The lash artist was nice, and given her positive reviews here, I trusted her. I should’ve done my due diligence in asking about the kind of glue used, etc. They also should’ve done a patch test on me, or used a glue for sensitive eyes.
I walked away loving the lashes. They looked great and remained that way for the first 48 hours. I was very, very diligent about following all of the aftercare tips — I didn’t get the area wet for 48 – 72 hours to allow the glue to cure. I stayed away from heat. I took colder showers to avoid steam. I brushed them daily. Etc. But about two days in, the lashes started to become so, so uncomfortable. I experienced a constant pinching and tugging sensation along my lid lines, particularly at the inner and outer corners of my eye. It was impossible not to touch them — I was just trying to alleviate some of the pain in any way possible. I know now that this pain was caused by the fact that multiple lashes were glued together, and so my lashes couldn’t grow properly.
The discomfort/​pinching went on for 4, almost 5, days. I was out of town for work for two of those days, so I had no choice but to endure it. I got the lashes on a Friday, and emailed them on Monday night, telling them about the problem and asking about what I should do. By Wednesday, there was no response, so I called them; the receptionist was very nice and called me back the same day, offering me an appt. to come in that day, but I was still out of town, so I booked an appt. for Thursday to remove the lashes. One hour before my Thurs. appt, they cancelled because the aesthetician was sick — ok, I understand and accept that, but at this point, I was miserable. The next appt. they could offer me was for Saturday, and the thought of waiting 1.5−2 more days was insane. My vision and ability to function at work was being affected at this point — I could barely keep my eyes open because the pinching was so painful, and the lashes felt so heavy and stiff. Over this whole period, I was losing lashes; they just kept falling out, probably from my touching them (which was impossible not to do!!).
So, I scrambled to find someone to help me. Luckily, I got a reference from my wedding MUA, and I was able to see a different lash artist on Friday to remove them. She was super gentle, and while removal is supposed to take only 30 or so minutes, she spent over an hour with me because there was so much glue and my eyes were so sensitive at that point. In the end, she was able to get all of the lashes off; she was really shocked at the application — she said there were multiple lashes glued together, including poor baby lashes, and that glue was even sitting on my skin. That’s why it was so painful two days in, as my lashes started to grow.
I’m completely traumatized — extreme discomfort around your eyes is kind of terrifying, given how important your eyes are! I lost so many of my natural lashes — they are not at all as long or as full as they were before. I know that lashes grow in every 30 days, and I’ll eventually have my full lashes back, but my wedding is two weeks away and I’m just sad about the whole thing.
This was my honest experience here. I’ve tried to be reasonable and calm about the whole thing. I will note a couple other things that maybe affected my experience: (1) I’m Asian, and maybe they’re not used to working with Asian eyes? and (2) I used a Gilt City voucher.

I first got my lashes done for vacation back in January, and found this place through a Unilocal deal. Obviously I was very nervous being this was my first time ever. But the process was so comfortable, I almost fell asleep. I was happy with the results but only planned to do it just that once for vacation. After all, it is pretty pricey.
But guess what? It is now May, and I am still doing it! Defeyened has gotten me hooked. People either tell me I have nice lashes or ask if they are my natural lashes. But more importantly, I love how they look on me. They’re long, curly, voluminous, and natural looking… and who doesn’t want that?
I’ve seen Alexa, Dasha, and Megan and they are all good. They are all friendly and customize the look you want. I do think that when Dasha does mine though, they last just a tad bit longer. I also like the online booking, which makes it super easy. If you plan on sticking with it, ask about the packages they have. I don’t think it’s listed on their website yet. Oh and they may still have a discount for first timers, just ask!

Update: After I left my last review, the owner, Dasha, reached out to me via text message apologizing for my negative experience and asking me to call her to so we could chat about it. I really appreciated her concern and promptly called her later that day. I left a voicemail, however, she never called me back. Instead, she responded to my Unilocal review with a personal attacking accusing me of having nothing better to do than leave negative Unilocal reviews.
By my count, I’ve left less than a dozen reviews over several years, both good and bad which reflect the experiences I’ve had. Before I came to Defeyned, I looked them up on Unilocal and thought, «Great — All positive reviews. I’m in!» Unfortunately, that was not the experience I had and I wanted others in my position to know that. I did not bash the business and in fact stated how much I liked the service and people there. I just didn’t like the product I got. Totally fair. Cannot believe how this owner has behaved. Completely unprofessional!

This place is Amazing! All the lash artist are friendly and very informative. I had never had lashes before and now I defiantly can not live without them! I went on vacation last week to Hawaii and before I left had them put on and after swimming and being in the humidity they are still looking fabulous! Thank you, you ladies rock! Will be back soon for my touch up

I have extremely sensitive eyes so I was weary of trying lash extensions but I’m so lucky and happy that I decided to get them done here! My eyes watered a bit during the application (which I expected because of my sensitivity) but the esthetician was quick to fix that with very soothing remedies. All these talented ladies are super patient and genuinely care about your comfort AND making you look & feel beautiful! I get compliments on my lashes all the time, mainly the fact that they look natural yet flirty, which is exactly what I wanted. Lastly, I live in San Jose & never mind the commute up. SO WORTH IT!

I’ve been having my lashes done ever since December by Megan. I’m addicted, I’m complimented plenty by guys and envied by girls. They’re so natural looking and really give my eyes LIFE. Yaaaas queen, I live for these. I’ve also had a touch up once with Dasha and Andrea and left just as happy. I never really worry about who will do my touch up because I know consistent results will always be delivered.

Megan is hands-​down the best. She listens to what you want and makes it happen! My lashes look natural, I get endless compliments from people who think they are my real lashes! And they last so much longer than previous places I’ve gone. Love love love.

Dasha is the best! She makes you feel extremely comfortable (which is hard to do when you’re 36 weeks pregnant) & is so professional, fast & does the best work! I’ve had lash extensions before and was never in love with the results so I was hesitant to get them ever again. But as I’m about to have a baby and needed to figure out a way to still look put together without spending time putting on make-​up I decided to get them again. I am SO glad I tried def.EYE.ned! I have received so many compliments & my morning routine to get ready is much faster and easier! I am definitely addicted!

Five stars for staff and service.
I have been seeing Andrea, and I absolutely love her. She is a super talented make-​up artist and worked wonders on my lashes! They look super natural, but way more defeyned (see what I did there?). But yeah, the space is gorgeous and relaxing and the online booking makes appointments and payment a breeze.
Highly recommended!

One of the best decisions I’ve made so far this year was getting my lashes done with Alexa. Here’s my story, y’all.
I am a toe head through and through. Blonde brows, hair, lashes, so when I take off my face I look preeetttty different. I used to sleep with mascara on to avoid the nicknaming that often took place when friends or luvahs would see me without my usual dark lashes. I even tried Latisse but it started to give me styes so I resigned myself to the idea that I was just stuck with short blonde lashes that either stayed blonde all day, or got a healthy dose of clumpy mascara. Then a couple weeks ago I was kickin it old school with my best gal pal JoBeth B. and noticed how long and curly her lashes were and asked what mascara she used, only to be told her lash love story.
I wouldn’t really classify myself as a «girly girl» so getting something like this done was a little out of the ordinary for me. Sure I wear my fair share of makeup, paint my nails religiously, and have drawers upon drawers of hair and skin products, but if there’s any part of my morning routine that can be skipped to make room for more sleep, it’s gladly accepted. So I figured lash extensions was a good way to start, and so I booked my appointment with Alexa, who did JoBeth’s lashes, and made my way over. Easy parking and right next to Jake’s Steaks (yum), tons of magazines, and tea and water for your sipping pleasure in the cute reception area.
Alexa and I had a short consultation about what kind of look I was going for with my extensions (voluminous, full, curly, dark — obviously), I laid down and was covered with a soft light blanket, and waited for my close up. I was so chilled out and cozy, I almost fell asleep. I’m told that that the first appointment is the longest at around 90 mins, but this girl is fast, which I really appreciated. I wish I had taken a before and after picture to show you all what the lash life is about.
Gotta keep it real and say that the first night and next day, they felt a little funny; it’s not a terrible feeling, it’s kind of like wearing fake lashes all the time. But as soon as the initial feeling faded, I began to love my lashes and now I never want to be without them. I still wear liquid eyeliner when I go out, but there was no need for mascara for the first 2 full weeks. This week I’m going back for my fill and I’m so excited. No more nicknames, no more exclaims of, «woah, you look like a different person!», it’s just me and my dark, gorgeous lashes making our way in the cold, hard city. Get there, you deserve it!

My lashes have never looked better! I wake up every morning with no makeup feeling like a rock star thanks to Defeyened. I’ve been to a few different places for lash extensions and this is by far my favorite — all the girls are fabulous, super friendly, and do such a great a job! The space is also beautiful and comfortable. Whether you are lash extension newbie or a pro looking for a new spot… come here and you won’t look back. Get ready to feel beautiful!

Megan is so awesome!!! She did my lash extension and they turned out so beautiful and NATURAL looking! (I mean, that’s the look we’re all going for right?) I love love love her work! Everywhere I went I received compliments!!! People did not believe me when I told them my lashes were extensions ;) Megan is gentle, talented and very professional! I have been seeing Alexa for a year now and she has not only worked with me to find the perfect lash but she has fixed many issues that I have caused as a new lash wearer (what can i say… user error, I had a rough start getting used to them :/​) She has always been extremely helpful in easing me into wearing the lashes and finding the set that is just right for me. I get more compliments on my lashes and how natural they look. I definatly recommend Alexa!!!

I’m a professional singer/​songwriter and Megan has been my go to girl for makeup and false lashes. She recently did my lash extensions for a Grammy nomination party and everyone loved them!!! I felt so beautiful. I’m officially addicted.

Very pleasant experience. I would highly recommend Alexa she is very professional and caring about your lash needs. I have seen Alexa several times and she is by far the best lash technician there is. I wouldn’t go anywhere else. My lash needs are always met whether I like them to be long, full or short and natural they always look amazing and last such a long time. I’m always excited to go in for my touch-​up sessions, Alexa is always very sweet and personable great to talk to while I’m getting my lashes done. Always a great experience! I’ve seen Dasha several times now and i wouldn’t go to anyone else. I usually get a natural look and I LOVE it, it looks like a fuller darker version of my real lashes and I don’t have to put on a lick of mascara. The lashes themselves are light weight and after the first hour or so I don’t even notice them. I would highly recommend Dasha and Defeyened to anyone!

I had Dasha do my eyelashes and she did the most incredible job. I’ve tried just about everywhere in San Francisco and hers are easily the most natural, full, and longest lasting lashes I’ve had to date. When you’re investing in extensions, you want them to look and feel natural, but also last long! With her pricing, expertise, and results, I believe this is the best place you can go not just in SF but in the entire Bay Area. Not to mention the space is beautiful and so welcoming, as is Dasha!

Alexa is the best ! I have gone to her for my lash extensions for years now. She is incredible. Whenever I see her we go over the look I want and she aways asks if it’s for any occasion. She is very detailed. The space is super cute and all the ladies are very sweet. Any ways, see Alexa for your lashes. You won’t be disappointed!

Dasha is as good as it gets in the lash business.
Your first appointment is a long one (90m usually) and you really want somebody that you can lay there and feel comfortable with (whether you want to sleep or chat). My first appointment with Dasha was stellar. I already had lash extensions but due to low maintenance and poor care on my part I practically needed a full set. Usually, at the other places, they make you remove lashes from other companies and pay for a new set if you are planning on switching locations. She worked with me and was very gracious so I didn’t have to shell out a ton of money on a service I had already been getting. (Ladies: keep in mind, if your lashes are extremely different or of poor quality, you may need them removed anyway).
Fast forward to the end of the appointment and I am hooked on DefEYEned. You feel like you are hanging with your best friend while getting a killer service. The quality and price cannot be beat. My lashes looked absolutely perfect and I woke up every day thinking, «I just don’t know how I went my entire 20s without this service».
Depending on my care, my lashes last 3 – 4 weeks and fills are quick and painless. If you arrive early to the appointment the location is beautiful and comfortable to wait inside. You can even get a spray tan at Brown Bunz before or after you lash up!

I really love my eyelashes from here! The chair is ¹⁰⁄₁₀ comfy and the owner is very personable and professional. I will definitely come again and again.
