I cannot say enough good things about Dean. I had never gone for acupuncture before and was a little apprehensive but I am a big believer now. Dean definitely knows what he is doing. I cannot recommend him highly enough. I am a firm believer in the power of acupuncture. If you haven’t tried it you should and I recommend going to Dean!

I came to Dean with ulnar nerve damage, unable to type (and therefore to work). I’d been to doctors, acupuncturists, bodyworkers, and chiropractors, but was still unable to use a computer for more than 10 minutes without my fingers going numb. I came to him 2x week at first, and within 2 weeks I was able to work again, and it hasn’t returned.
As side effects of the treatments, my digestive system normalized (2 years after a trip to India), my PMS went away, and a few months later I got pregnant, had a super healthy pregnancy and a big healthy baby, and he was a huge help in my post-​birth healing and has even worked on my little son a few times!
His treatments are often not just acupuncture, but bodywork, cranio-​sacral, herbs, and likely other energy stuff that he does and I don’t ask about because whatever it is is working for me. And he’s *very* good at Chinese medicine for the musculoskeletal system, which was astoundingly effective for me, as well as other referrals I’ve made to him, including a professional climber dealing with injuries.
He’s definitely special. And I can’t believe I left this review unfinished for so long! I guess I’m trying to keep him to myself. :-)

This review is long over due. I was referred to Dean by a dance teacher several years ago after severe ankle sprains. Not only is Dean knowledgeable about orthopedic injuries, but he’s also compassionate and a great listener.
I’ve continued coming to Dean regularly since then and have found his techniques to be helpful for issues ranging from the simple cold to inflamed ankles. The office space is inviting and clean. Parking is easy during the day. I can’t recommend him enough!

In today’s hectic world were we spend so much energy rushing from meetings to appointments while responding to the vast array of social media, this pace takes its toll on our bodies and minds. When I step into Dean’s office I know that he he focused upon keeping my mind, body and spirit healthy and balanced. He coordinates his acupuncture and Chinese herb application with the findings observed by my primary care doctor.

Dean is a healer in the true sense of the word. A couple of years ago, I was having some issues with my neck/​shoulder/​arm that were all inter-​related and it was causing me great pain, not to mention that I hadn’t had a full night of rest in weeks. From the minute we started our first session through the last minute of our final session, I knew I was in very capable hands. His touch is so gentle and healing that it was all I could do to keep from bursting in to tears of relief after our first session. His approach was completely holistic and was the only thing that actually relieved my problem, rather than just treating the symptoms. My only regret is that I no longer live in SF and can’t access his amazing abilities. Thank you, Dean!

I started seeing Dean 4 years ago with a horendous cold. Not liking anitbiotics and such, he relieved my symptoms in a couple of days with well-​trained acupuncture and Chinese herbs. I continue to see him for a pinched nerve I hurt last fall, and his care has been key to a faster recovery than I was led to expect by the traditional medical community.
The office is clean and warm, and the Castro location is convenient. His fees are reasonable and he accepts credit and debit cards as well as cash & personal checks.
Oh, the ‘magical refill drawer’ is a clever way for us patients to get refills on our various herbs in between appointments, too.

I have had several acupuncture visits with Dean. Right away I felt comfortable in his office sharing a cup of tea with Dean and discussing my health. I have found his treatments relaxing and effective. If your lucky you may get a little massage at the end, he has great hands!

Dean is fantastic. First off, he gives you this enormous questionnaire. Which is great, because on subsequent visits, he refers to it, to make certain everything is on track. (The only downside is that you have to discuss things like bowel movements and menstrual cycles, so be prepared if you’re not a very open person.)
Dean has a real healer’s touch. I’ve been going to him just for general health recently, but started when I had some upper respiratory thing that wouldn’t go away. An initial visit followed by herbs did the trick.
Dean also practices cranial-​sacral massage. That is some good stuff.
One of the nicest things to say about Dean though is that because he’s laid back, and honest and not judgmental, I actually tell him a lot of medical issues that can sometimes be embarrassing to talk about. Or I will actually admit that, yes indeed, I only slept 15 hours in the past week and sustained myself entirely on Shiner Bock and Luna Bars (ahem, post sxsw). He honestly tells me the impact of this, and then gets on with treating me.
I’d highly recommend going to see him. Except not next Thursday at 5, that’s my time slot.

Dean is so wonderful that I had to join Unilocal to rave about him!
