Let’s get moving toward your dance dreams! I also offer locations in Mission/​Potrero. (Please note the Union Square location is a private studio (not a public storefront).) I offer customized dance classes and lessons for individuals, couples, and groups in Salsa, Wedding Dance, Ballroom, Latin & Swing dancing. Learn rhythm, connection to partner, Latin styling & flava, and dance figures you can take to your special event or club dance floor. Improve posture, balance, musicality, and develop a lifetime skill you can use all over the world! Dancing is the most fun way to work out, express yourself, and connect with friendly people. As a trained dancer I not only teach the shapes to move your body into, but how to create movement from the inside, that is efficient, comfortable, beautiful and fun!

Kat Kresch is a recent company member of RicaSalsa, and performed in their winning competitions: World Latin Dance Cup Team Champions, Bay Area Team Champions, San Francisco Int’l Salsa Congress Team Champions. She performs with GoGo Pro and Gypsy Love Productions at nightclubs and events in San Francisco. She is a previous Collegiate and Amateur Ballroom & Latin dance competitor, and previous core company member of The Nekyia (bellydance cabaret) and Hot Pink Feathers (Samba/​world dance fusion). She began her teaching career at Cheryl Burke Dance San Francisco, and is a graduate of the Ballroom Dance Teachers College in Ballroom and Latin, and the San Francisco School of Massage & Bodywork. She studies ballet, jazz, bellydance and yoga, and works behind-​the-​scenes for her dance teaching mentor & founder of SF’s original Metronome Ballroom, Diane Jarmolow, at the Ballroom Dance Teachers College. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago

Thought a class package would be a great Xmas present for my fiancé and I and Kat definitely exceeded expectations.
Would definitely recommend her instruction to anyone from all skill levels. Kat was able to tailor each class to our preferences, always keeping us engaged and making sure we were having fun!

I bought a 5 pack of salsa lessons from Kat and explained to her that I have no rhythm, can’t hear the count that I’m supposed to be dancing to, but need to learn because I work in Latin America and I’m in situations where I’m expected to go out dancing pretty often.
She totally understood and started by teaching me how to identify the different instruments in the song and which ones I coul use to hear the count. She actually has an app that isolates each instrument in a song to make it super obvious. Then we went over basic moves in the beginning, and she was very good at teaching the lead as she followed. I got much better at hearing the beat and understanding when to start, and I actually feel pretty confident in that now.
Each lesson we built on the last and added new moves. I didn’t practice as much as should have been, but I definitely got much better in 5 weeks. And if you’re really motivated to practice on your own, you’ll improve a ton.
I went from being very nervous about approaching a dance to floor to mildly confident, which is way more than I expected. I’ve been dancing a couple times now and it’s clear that the lessons were worth it!
If you’re nervous about starting this like I was Kat is very patient and will meet you at your level, wherever that may be.

My husband and I got married a couple months ago, and we went to Kat for 5 lessons for our first dance. Our first dance turned out AMAZING, and our wedding guests are still talking about it!
Kat’s style of teaching seems to be very tailored to each person/​couple. For us, she took the time in the first lesson to figure out what our style was and what we were looking for. The first couple lessons we spent learning the steps, then the next two we put them together and the last lesson was polish polish polish. After the first lessons, Kat was able to use her dance experience to add a flare to our dance that we hadn’t thought of. Overall, she was amazing, and I would recommend her to everyone!

Kat is a fantastic teacher and dancer. I took some group salsa classes with her. She is patient and encouraging. If I didn’t get something, she would try teaching it another way, and I really appreciated that. My dancing and confidence improved tremendously. I would not hesitate to highly recommend her.

My best gay boyfriend bought a 4 week salsa class taught by Kat and invited me to be his partner in the city (on Van Ness). I absolutely love to ballroom dance, especially salsa so of course I was happy to
There was a variety of skill levels in all the classes, some people were completely brand new to salsa and others had taken classes before.
Kat is such a fantastic instructor! She is super warm, very easy to understand in terms of instruction and has a very caring demeanor. You can tell she is passionate about teaching and art of dance. She is also super friendly and easily approachable. Kat is also quiet knowledgeable, she knows her stuff! I took latin ballroom in college and at one point was an avid dancer so she knows how to give instruction to a beginner and someone who has experience under their belt.
By the end of the 4 week class, my friend could hang on the dance floor and I renewed my love of salsa (and learned some new moves while at it!)
I would take classes more often if I lived in the city! Thanks, Kat!

My wife Jennifer and I were looking to take dance lessons for our wedding, which took place in October, and didn’t want to engage in some «run of the mill» type experience. Back in my single days, I was an avid salsa dancer (albeit not a great one), so wanted to put together a revue with some spice and pizzaz. I recalled a number of local instructors from the San Francisco salsa scene, Kat being one of them. So I decided to reach out to Kat, and am glad that I did!
Kat is an extraordinary dancer and instructor. She is extremely easy to work with, and makes you (the student) feel comfortable in learning the routine and moves. We had some experience and ideas coming into our lessons, though Kat also provided her own input and creativity in helping us to master and enhance our routine. We ended up crafting a version of John Legend’s «All of Me», adjoining various versions of the song including country, bachata (Latin), and tango, in addition to the original. Kat taught us various different steps, from the foxtrot, to tango, to two-​step; her knowledge of dance and choreography is impressive! Kat brings a great energy to the dance floor, and is excited about helping her students too.
The final product ended up being a hit, and everyone at our wedding loved what we put together… frankly, we couldn’t have done any of this without Kat’s partnership.

If I could give Kat 6 stars I would!
My partner and I have been taking salsa lessons with Kat for several years now. We love Kat for many reasons: she brings such a contagious positive energy to her classes that everybody leaves in a good mood. Her classes are taught in a supportive environment. We’ve watched people with all skill levels learn and improve in her classes. She provides clear feedback even in group settings, without singling anyone out. This helps the everyone learn more quickly. She even shares some quick tips for adding a bit of salsa flare to your steps, which makes your salsa look even better. Most of all, she makes salsa fun!
We enjoyed Kat’s group classes so much that we asked her to teach a semi-​private class. The experience was awesome. In addition to learning steps and practicing them, she and Nick broke down the theory behind salsa and taught us why certain moves fit together. By the end of the class, we could even start inventing our own variations! Up to this point, we’d only been memorizing some moves and dancing them in various sequences, but now we can make things up as we go along. The great thing is she presented it in a way that was not overly academic — most of the time, it felt like a «regular» dance class and we had a tons of fun, but then we realized we were learning a lot more.

I recently took a small group salsa class with Kat, and her dance partner Nick, and they were fantastic. Very patient, took the time to tailor the class to what we wanted to learn and they taught us the basics /​intermediate steps that we can use to keep up at your typical salsa club. I would recommend Kat and Nick to anyone looking to learn salsa or brush up on their skills if they haven’t danced in a while.

Kat’s a great instructor!
There are a few things about her teaching style that I really like:
1) great verbal descriptions of what’s about to, or ought to, happen.
2) when needed, I could say, «can you demonstrate that again, please?» and she will oblige.
3) when she rotates into the line with students and danced with me, she always had great feedback that I otherwise wouldn’t have pieced together on my own by simply hearing and watching.
All three make for a great learning experience, and should appeal to theoretical, visual, and kinesthetic learners alike.
Furthermore, I like their class format in which each month has a certain set of material. This means two things:
1) there is ample time to practice things, as well as to integrate a set of moves together, which, over months, leads to a great set of moves, ideas for when to use them, and ways to transition between them.
2) there’s new stuff every month, so it’s not the same old «pick-​up salsa class» each session.
Finally, she’s just generally awesome and we had a great time every class.

Kat is an awesome salsa teacher! She is very funny and super energetic, and she is incredibly accessible for novices like me. As a total first timer, my salsa style was initially as aesthetically pleasing as a «dumpster fire». However, after about 5 – 6 months of classes, Kat actually got me to the point where I felt comfortable dancing in public — and i was pretty good too!
I would totally recommend Kat to others — especially if you are trying something new and don’t want to be intimidated!
