5 stars does not do justice for Ponch. He is not a business man, he is a person who runs a business to help others. I have been a loyal customer of his for 15 years. In the past it has just been pleasant interactions and great prices on contacts. This year I have been dealing with some chronic dry eyes that even my opthalmologist can’t figure out. We have recently put plugs in my tear ducts in an attempt to help but nothing has changed. I called Ponch to ask his advice since I am no longer able to wear color contacts. He actually spent time on the phone with me trying to figure out what life style and medical changes have happened for this change and we were able to determine what might be causing this when my eye doctors didn’t even think of it. I appreciate his concern and his willingness to help me despite me not being able to wear contacts and not giving him business. He has a loyal customer for life!

they r amazing I always get my contacts here. ponch is good. well he initially says the estimate is 160 including a few color contacts. well later he said that I cant have the two contacts lenses huh. when he charged me with contact lens I never got. and he charged with $ 200 …that’s unfair I dont like that. it was iovercharged. this is not legit. nothing against u ponch your mad and upset at me just the truth don’t want to offend anybody its my right to give feedback
other than that I love r business… staff are sweet and nice. ponch is top notch manager. the procuct they sell are wonderful ponch is a genius

I love Contact Lens Expo. I was referred here by my boyfriend after a miserable experience with ordering contacts from my previous eye doctor in Connecticut (they only sent me contact lenses for my right eye and when I called to ask what happened to the box for my left eye they said I didn’t order them)!
Ponch is a man of integrity. I feel like he’s very patient, kind, really listens to me, and then makes sure that I’m happy with the fit and brand of my lenses. He has great attention to detail and it really matters. All of his assistants are wonderful and treat you with care and respect. The contact lenses from here are also so much more affordable than what I was paying at my previous eye doctor.

Dr. Ponch is really helpful when it comes to contacts and generally for the eyes! I have been going to him for years for my annual prescription of contacts and fitting! They offer affordable colored contacts, a variety on types of regular contacts and eye exams.
I even came here once for a medical eye infection that was an emergency and he knew who to recommend and why it was infected! He didn’t have to help out since it wasn’t his forte, but he did anyways! Thanks! He remembers me ever since that day. I guess the infection was pretty bad — to the point when I could have almost become blind.

I’ve been a customer with Ponch for almost 10 years now. They provide great customer service and offers various promotions from time to time. It’s pretty common to not receive the rebate you deserve, but with Ponch and his team’s diligent follow up I have always received mine for the past 10 years. I plan on staying with them for a very long time.

I’ve been going to Contact Lens Expo since I was 15, I’m 29 now! Proud to say that I’ve been a loyal customer for so many years! I moved away for a few years, but when I relocated back to SF, I started ordering from them again. Ponch is extremely patient… I remember when I was 15, my younger brother was 13… he helped us with our fitting. Putting something into your eye for the first time: daunting. But, he assisted us and was so nice and patient.
When it comes to rebates, they are on top of it! This is the only place where I actually receive my money back. Once you’ve received your contacts in the mail, his staff will call to remind you to send in the bar codes to them so that they can process it FOR you. How nice. =) Then, they give you a rough time frame of when you should receive your check in the mail. They will even provide an 800 for you to call if you haven’t received it by then.
It’s been so many years, but Ponch still looks the same. The guy never ages…

This morning I washed my left contact down the sink. I’m down to my last pair… :(
So while eating my 3 breakfast eggs, I called Contact Lens Expo and quickly ordered a new set. My phone call was answered right away and my order was taken and processed in less than 15 minutes. Nice! I won’t be blind for a month after all.
I’ve been ordering my contacts from Contact Lens Expo for years, and it’s precisely because of their excellent customer service. Ponch is very patient and accommodating, and his assistants are just as helpful.
What’s nice about ordering from Ponch is that he always has special offers (i.e. extra lenses, bonus color lenses, etc.). But if in the rare case that he doesn’t, he’ll still throw in free contact solution, cases, and contact tweezers (I think that’s what they’re called).
Contact Lens Expo may not be as comparable to other places/​websites in terms of pricing, but considering the wonderful service I’ve received from them all these years, I really don’t mind all too much.

You called me to accuse me of writing a bad review of you. So you probably used the same tactic to forcibly get your customers to buy the more expensively priced contact lens. I had kept quite, but no more, here is your BAD REVIEW!
My family has been going to Ponch for a few years and even referred friends. At the time when I switched from 2-​weeks to dailies, his only service was to get you to buy the more expensive brands. NOT what works for me, size, fit, price range, comfort… but how much profit margin you can get. I went home to decide, then got a call from you accusing me for writing a bad review, which I didnt!!! Until now.
For all the business you already get, to cheapen yourself to one of your regular customers this way was easy enough for me not to go back. No more business or referrals. Definately calling out too all ppl out there to avoid this business.

HORRIBLE customer service!
After reading previous Unilocal reviews, I looked forward to ordering contacts from here, but once I got in, both Ponch and his employees were rude, impatient, and condescending. Their prices were not competitive at all, and even if they were, I’d take my business elsewhere.

Can’t say much more than you’ve already read about Contact lens Expo, and it all boils down to the proprietor Ponch and his store’s motto: Quality, Price, Service, Integrity. While the staff may fluctuate over the years, Ponch is always around and often the first person to greet you when you go in. I’ve been coming to CLE since I moved to the city years ago; have had several eye doctors along the way, but always take my prescription to Ponch, and he always has a deal of somekind on the exact brand/​type you want and he fills out all the rebate forms to make sure you get the lowest prices. And he sends out Holiday greetings cards, which always brings a smile to my face.
Nice guy, excellent prices and top quality product and services, what more could one ask for?! Recommended.

I’ve known Ponch since i was a kid and started purchasing contacts from him around 1995. He’s GREAT and very mellow and all around a nice guy. He always give me extra solutions.

I keep meaning to Unilocal Contact Lens Expo and forget or in the moment I am cock eyed and can only see out of one eye (doesn’t bode well for typing reviews). But this time I actually remembered so here it is.
I’ve been going to Ponch’s since I moved into the city and as always I’ve got my last contacts in and need new ones asap. Ponch and his entire staff are so incredibly nice and accommodating. He now carries a regular stock of my prescription because of days like this. I am always calling him in dire straits because I forgot to reorder when I put my last set in and then I lose one and I can’t see.
Are they more expensive than online… on a individual box basis by maybe a couple bucks (you’ve got other issues if a couple bucks is that big of a deal) but if you put in a multi-​order, hands down you’ll save more time and money online or off. But I keep going back because I like the attention (Ponch always checks my eyes when I come in), they ALWAYS call me back if they can’t take my call at the moment, they know me (you really feel like Norm from Cheers when you go in), they are up on all the latest brands, rebates and discounts they can find to give you, they will also process those rebates for you which makes them just darn good people. Every one of them, and you truly can’t say that about a lot of places.
Don’t let the place throw you… no it doesn’t look very organized or chic like other optometry places but quite frankly I don’t need ambiance to get my eyes checked and I know that whatever Ponch is saving in overhead he’s extending those savings to me.

As long as I have to wear contacts, I’ll be coming to Contact Lens Expo.
Nestled in Chinatown, this place is seemingly worlds away from the hustle and bustle that is characteristic of the neighborhood. Ponch and his staff are incredibly friendly, helpful, and professional. Customer service doesn’t get any better than this!
Years ago I used to walk around with blurry vision. Sad. But true. I would take off my glasses in between classes because God forbid people would have to see me in my nerdy frames. Enter Contact Lens Expo. The staff here taught me how to put contacts in. No more taking on and off my glasses. No more apologizing to people for not waving back until they were literally right in front of me.
If you feel like ordering contacts can be a hassle… think again. Ponch always has amazing deals, great rebates, and will even have his staff help you fill out all the information. All you have to do is show up and you’ll be on your way in just a few! On top of it your contacts will come within 2 weeks and they’ll sometimes give you free samples/​gifts (eye drops, anyone?!)

I’ve been ordering my contacts from Contact Lens Expo since I was a teeny-​bopper. As a teeny-​bopper, I bought hazel contacts to cover my dark brown eyeballs. Then, I bought regular ones that didn’t masquerade my true colors. Next month, I’m getting Lasik, so hopefully my eyeballs will be naked and be free like the day I was born!
Though I won’t really miss having to shove something in my eyeballs every morning, I will miss the pleasant customer service I received every year that I bought contacts at Contact Lens Expo. They really have the best deals around. No matter how much I shopped around, they always had the lowest prices and that doesn’t even include their bonus of free solution with an annual order.
The best part for me since I live in suburbia is that they’d ship my order so I didn’t have to trudge down to Chinatown :) Sure, I missed out on the free solution, but it was still cheaper and delivered right to my house!

Went into Kaiser SF this morning to get more contacts and they were going to charge me $ 56 for two cases of contacts. That blew me away a little — but the kicker was that I had to wait 7 – 10 days to get them. That wasn’t going to work.
I was driving back home and remembered about this contacts place.
The man who runs this business is the nicest person ever. It’s rare to say that these days.
I saved $ 15 on my contacts and he threw in some solution.
How is that Kaiser, who must be able to buy in bulk charges more than a small store?
Anyhow, contacts are great and the service here was awesome.
Parking was impossible, but if you need contacts, this is the place to go.
They definitely have my business in the future.

I found this place randomly back when I was in college and I used to spend Wednesday’s in the city. I’d cut class, BART out to SF and explore the city. I was in awe of all the Chinese people so always ended up heading towards Chinatown. [To clarify, yes I’m Chinese … but I grew up in Wexford, PA … population: 4 Chinese.] Anyway, during one such excursion, I found Contact Lens Expo … you’d never notice it if you were driving by.
Anyway, that was probably over 12 years ago. I keep coming back. Can’t beat Ponch when it comes to his prices and his service. He really cares about you and about providing excellent service. Since I’ve moved and gotten fat and lazy (and no longer venture into the city on foot … and as a result no longer head into Chinatown for the lack of parking), I still call Ponch to process my orders which he ships to me.
To give an example of his customer service, there’s always some rebate or another going on when you order contacts. Ponch and his team takes care of all that for me. They cut up the boxes, address the envelope, fill out the paperwork and 6 weeks later, I get a check. That’s going the extra mile.
I just purchased a years supply of 1-​Day Acuvue Moists from him … his prices were cheaper then anything I found online and I was happy to give him business. You gotta reward service like that with repeat business.
