They are NOT at 753 Clay anymore. The address should be updated. They are walking distance from their old Clay St location and now on Washington. Been going to Andrew for the longest time. They have top brands but can be pretty pricey.

Great place to get glasses but they are now on Washington St. at Wentworth Pl., between Kearny and Grant.

Just got my glasses made here. I brought in my own frames, 2 new frames, and the other one is a previous pair that is still in good condition but just needed new lenses. They really have competitive pricing if you compare them to internet opticians. Last time, i went and got glasses made at the oakley store on market and thou the quality of the glasses is great and all, i had to pretty much pay retail for everything frames and lenses. 1 polarized and 1 clear ended up costing me north of 600. I have and insurance and i use my HSA but still. This time i only paid 280 for the oakley polarized lens, clear lens with anti glare, anti scratch coating is only 90. so the 3 glasses cost only 460. The frames i got from oakley vault on sale. And the oakley clear lens anti-​scratch coating is not really great. My glasses where scratch up and theres a line in the center of the lens that annoyed the heck out of me. I only got the oakley polarized as i wanted the 00 red iridium. The service is great. The turn for clear lens are quick. The polarized oakley lens take a couple weeks since they come are made by oakley.
I totally recommend these guys. I also want to comment on the 1 star review by Jan s., if you are purchasing cheap frames, then dont expect them to last. I have been getting glasses for years. I thought id try internet glasses, i got one for 88 bucks, they were ok but i have to be extra careful with them. And i am usually not, my mo is i either step on them or lose them.

I went here after having a good experience at an NYC Chinatown glasses shop called Optical 88– are they related? Maybe, because I had a good experience here, too.
I don’t have a lot of money to spend on glasses, so I purchased my own frames elsewhere and brought them in here. Since I don’t have optical insurance, they recommended a local eye doctor who was great (Dr. Bradford Chang) and charged me $ 40 for an eye exam (glasses only, to add in a contact lens prescription it costs $ 65).
I brought the prescription back and Andrew helped me and taught me more than I could ever need to know about the different lens options that are available. There are cheap plastic ones that get thick if you have a high prescription for $ 45/​pair, and polycarbonate lenses (read: thinner and not weird looking) with antireflective coating which are $ 90/​pair. I found out after chatting for a while that it was possible to get the polycarbonate lenses without antiglare for $ 60/​pair which is what I choose to buy. I also found out that polarized prescription sunglasses lenses are $ 189/​pair, and may go back to get those another time. Because I was getting lenses for 2 different sets of frames, he gave me 20% off, so I got lenses for 2 different pairs of glasses for a total of $ 96! I thought I would have to pay that for only 1 pair, so I was excited.
To boot, they were willing to mail me the glasses once they were finished with them (I paid for shipping, as I expected to) because I live far away from the city in Big Sur. They even emailed me the tracking number.
Great service for the price. I am completely satisfied.

I love this place!!! I really do because Kevin treats us so well. There is a large selection of frames available. They have lots of brands !!! Throughout the years I’ve purchased Versace, Christian Dior, Prada, Oakley’s, Juicy, Marc Jacob, list goes on. And were all durable. I wouldn’t go anywhere else to get my glasses. Love it here! This place is a rip off. First, the quality of the glasses was terrible. It might look nice on the display and it was supposed to be a brand name. My friend picked out the glass she wanted with transition lenses and was so excited to have them when she picked them up. The glasses ear piece broke in less than a year. Not because she did not taking good care of them. She needed the glasses to preform her daily tasks.
We brought it back to them and see if they could fix it, but they were going to charge her! Really? No warranty?
So we left and took it to another local optical store and they were able to fix her glass for FREE even though she did not purchase her glasses there. The optical shop informed her that the transition lenses were poor quality and made. They claimed to be professional but they are not even close… I will stick to other optical store that does not sell knock offs. Save your money and don’t even consider this place. It might look fancy and all but it’s just another knock off place that will rip you off. The staffs there looks like shady and plus, we found out that the staffs there only had minimal training. Expensive lesson learned never going back again!

Excellent customer service! The gentleman with ponytail fixed my sunglasses with missing screws for free of charge. A nice example of the Chinese hospitality. They seem to have a lot of glass frame selections at good prices. Highly recommended.

Great place, excellent service. These guys know what they are doing — pleasure to deal with a shop like this. Now I will always come back when I need glasses or adjustments.
They called me when to come in — left my glasses — walked around for 5 minutes and it was all done and ready.

Walking in at 3pm on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend, I discovered that Eycon 88 was really busy: all three of their staff were helping other customers, and another father-​daughter pair were looking around for glasses. So I helped myself to try on a few of their relatively decent selection of clip-​on glasses (the ones with the magnetic sunglass add-​on) and fairly quickly identified a pair of Paul Frank frames that jived with my face. The clip-​on itself felt rather flimsy, but it seemed to be the only option that had a single magnetic contact between the lenses rather than the more common double magnetic contact outside the lenses. I waited around for a few minutes, but it didn’t seem like they were getting any less busy, so I set down the frames and promised to myself that I would return.
After checking out another eyewear retailer and not liking any of the styles of clip-​ons they had, I did some grocery shopping at Trader Joe’s in North Beach before heading back to Eycon about an hour later. Kelvin was free when I returned and immediately helped me with the frames I had picked out for myself earlier. We chatted in Mandarin Chinese, and he was able to clearly explain what my insurance policy (with EyeMed) covered and what my out-​of-​pocket cost would be. The total amounted to less than half what I would have paid at another eyewear retailer! While Kelvin was processing my order, I mentioned that my current glasses were starting to come apart, so he asked for them and tweaked and cleaned them until they looked almost as good as new. Wow, at this point I’m floored at the level of customer service Kelvin offered. At least now I won’t feel all headache-​y while I wait for my new glasses to arrive a few business days later.
The verdict: I’m definitely coming back to Eycon next time I need new glasses, which hopefully will be several years if these new ones hold up. At the very least, I’m returning whenever I need my glasses adjusted in case I bang them up a bit. Thanks so much, Kelvin!

Eyecon 88 is awesome! They don’t do eye exams, but have a HUGE selection of designer and non-​designer frames, and do the lenses for you. The staff is so nice and helpful! They made sure that I only ordered what I really needed, and helped me avoid unnecessary expenses. Andrew even rush ordered my frames because I wanted them quickly for work. Such great service, I will definitely be back here when I want another pair of glasses!

I have a hard time finding glasses that look good and fit on my nose (classic Asian nose, no bridge). I didn’t have that problem here! The wide selection of designer frames with different shapes and sizes gave me plenty of options to choose from. The service is also excellent with glasses being ready a week after I ordered them.

not a bad walk at all actually. store was pretty easy to spot. there were a couple of ppl inside.
the guy helped us out with our insurance. and made it so easy.
they have a great selection of frames and sunglasses but we had already bought our own.
So at site for sore eyes, they estimated my lenses at 320 $, sure I have astigmatism but dang man!!!
here they only said it would be 160 $ for thin lenses and everything! SUPER HAPPY CAMPER!
my brother and i went to get glasses, had left over insurance, that even my mom got a pair of much needed glasses.
Went in on a saturday, and it was ready wednesday! Super fast, glasses working fine. Would definitely come again. wish they did contacts too!

Hands down the best place I’ve ever been for glasses!
1. Excellent Service: Mr. Ho and his brother in law are the co-​owners of this mom and pop shop. They called me multiple times to let me know that my glasses were ready and even included a text message because I had brought up that I didn’t get one of their previous messages on my phone. They never rushed me and even welcomed the idea that I check out other establishments and compare prices before I settle and buy with them. They were friendly, courteous, and genuine. They know a lot about what’s «hip» and if you speak Chinese, they are hilarious! Fast turn around down too!
2. Frames: They have tons of frames and all are very reasonably priced. Normally, I find it difficult to find glasses and they made the process a lot easier. They asked me the type of frame I was looking for including things like color, shape, plastic or glass, price range, etc. They recommended a few to me based on the shape of my face and my preferences. The frame I chose in the end suited me well and it was priced with affordability in mind.
3. Health Insurance/​Pricing: They take many types of health insurance. The best thing to do is ask. My vision coverage was pretty limited as I didn’t have a separate plan for it (whatever I have is limited and minimum compared to standard vision insurance coverage). However, even with limited coverage, frames, single lenses, and anti-​reflective all came to a total of $ 86. What a steal and a beautiful frame too! Their prices are very affordable even for those without health insurance.
4. Eye Exams: They don’t do them in house, but they recommended me to a great place that charged me $ 25 for an eye exam without vision insurance. What a steal! I booked the appointment the day before and got seen the following day. It was quick and no frills.
5. Payment: Unlike most Chinatown businesses, this one takes many forms of credit cards including VISA, MasterCard, and Discover.
6. Location: Excellent location. You can take the MUNI 1, 8X and get off literally within a block or if not in nearly in front of the store. The Portsmouth Square parking lot is also quite close by the store though that will run you about $ 3/​hour.
It’s unusual for me to rate a place five stars, but this place is hands down five stars. I have no reservations. Great prices, VERY affordable, excellent customer service! If only all optical places are like this!

Man, they got some nice frames here. They carry a lot of the designer frames, like Prada, Gucci, D&G, Armani, etc; with the bonus of cool looking japanese lines. Although I was trying to score on some Chanel frames last time I came here, I was a bit disappointed when they told me they didn’t carry them. Otherwise, the service here is great. They do not do eye exams, so get an eye exam elsewhere, find out your prescription and they’ll hook you up.
Its easy to drop a few hundred bucks here on all the awesome frames so come prepared with a fat wallet!
