Comix Experience Outpost

So I came in here looking to buy a friend a gift. Now I know nothing about the comic universe, but I am familiar with how business are suppose to conduct their behavior. The female with the short hair is a very helpful and nice worker. Who is that bald, ugly, fat, white, pompous asshole who works there? He gets so sensitive whenever someone even touches an item. It’s a wonder how this store makes any money with a worker like him. Lol must be a stressful life reading comics! This guy was balder than my grandpa, and Aaron I believe his name is. If I ever had to go to a comic store again I would visit all the stores in the Bay Area before I consider this store. The only thing stopping me from giving this 1 star is the pretty helpful female worker!

The reason i am giving 3 stars is: when i entered the store it seemed like the staff was unaware of my presence and ignored for another 10 minutes. The store has a decent selection of back issues, that are overpriced.

When I’m in San Francisco, this is the comic shop I go to. They have a pretty good $ 1 bin, their back issue drawers need some TLC, and they have a healthy wall of key issues.
Last time I was there I saw Fantastic Four #1… the real deal from 1961. From what I heard they have a consignment program and that’s how that issue came into the store. It was $ 7,000 to buy, but free to look at from 5 feet away, which I felt was very generous.
I’m not a big fan of driving into the city from the South Bay, but I do it sometimes specifically to go to Comix Experience Outpost.

I went to this place when I was in the bay and I loved it. I found some really awesome hard to find books. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, even for an out of towner like myself. Every time I’m in town I will be stopping by. Highly recommended!

I really miss the way Gary and Roger ran their store (and Harry before he moved to NYC). My discounts for being a subscriber was a lot more organized (all purchases 10% off), if I had a few issues of a comic that was in my subscriber box — I wasn’t absolutely forced to purchase it. And their subscriber parties were amazing. Now that it’s run by Comix Experience I’m having trouble getting used to their new system which makes sense to me but I dislike it because I have to save my receipts in order to get my same discount but at my NEXT purchase.
As for the store itself, it’s very clean. It’s a comic lover’s heaven, and the staff is pretty courteous. Even though it’s small, it’s my favorite spot to purchase comics in S.F. and I’ve been to Isotops, Comic Experience’s Divisidero location, Cards ‘n Comics, Amazing Fantasy, and 2Catz.

I came here to check out the selection and quality of their comics. I used to come here a lot when I was a kid and decided to see what has changed. Their new back issues are well presented and are in good quality. I do wonder why their new back issues have small dings at the corners; however, I do see this all the time at every other store. I spoke with an employee named Cameron who was extremely helpful and friendly. He gave me insight as to how some items are priced and what titles might be good to read. Some of the popular titles such as Batman fairly priced as well. They really do provide a lot of fair deals! Only complaint I have is that a single bag and board cost 35 cents. buying a bulk from them cost $ 16 dollars which I believe comes out to be about 16 cents for bag and board. Aside from that, great store and well organized for readers interested in back issues.

The people are nice and the back issues are ok but not great. The store is smaller than I had thought but well organized. I could actually find the items but not really what I had wanted, which was key issues and cgc graded books. Again, check out for the nice experience but be realistic about what is there.

I stopped by Comic Outpost earlier today to pick up some comics for a friend. The guy working there, Cameron, was really helpful sorting through the issues I needed. He also recommended a series called COWL which I happily picked up (5 issues) based on his description and excitement. I’m looking forward to my next visit.

one of the first comic shops i got to check out in the bay area, but definitely not the last time ill visit. great selection of new and old comics in their $ 1 bin (scored gotg #1 sketch cover and batman death of the family issue with awesome cover art!) and of course up to date monthlies. big shout out to cameron: black science tpb came up aces! what a great suggestion/​read!

A mom & pop shop well worth supporting as comic book shops are losing to web retailers. Also do custom orders & usually have bundles & clearance boxes for bargain hunters. Coming here is a must for any comic book fab & it’s a fab shop to support. Don’t think twice & give them a try as they even carry old issues as well!

Cool store! There was a bunch of spidey stuff (my fave) but I found some great green lantern and superman stuff for my bros. Good deals!

We happened to be in the area, so I looked for a comic book shop with great ratings and reviews. I decided on this one…
We walked in and was greeted warmly by someone organizing the boxes while sitting/​squatting on the floor. My bf was able to find a couple of items, but they did not have that many back dated issues like other reviews stated… I believe he said that the previous owner had a blow out sale and sold quite a few issues before they took over. Not sure how long these new owners have been in business.
The «upstairs» was closed off — looked like everything was now downstairs, but there were quite a number of boxes in the middle of the store, piled high that they were over my head.

I don’t want to be mean to a comic store but I’ll give my thoughts
pros — they get a lot of issues when they come out (opposed to comic stores that get 3 issues when an issue comes out). Which is good too to help catch up if you are a few months behind. They also have a lot of cool toys which is always a plus.
cons– The workers are not the nicest people. They aren’t the meanest either but sometimes I feel their bored outta their mind, at least when they talk to me. Minor complaint would be that they don’t have much graphic novels. My biggest complaint, or the one that bothers me, is that they feel marvel bias. They have a lot of marvel stuff. I’m not trying to fanboy over DC or anything but it’s lame a comic store has to be bias. (Most comic stores I’ve been are run by people who love everything in comics.)

Nice set up but from the sounds of it the owner is looking to sell. Everything was also on sale (going out of business sale). Comic book stores are a tough business to run, internet is kicking printed mediums butts.

Passing by I thought this was a bookstore, who knew there were so many comics jam packed into one place?
My teenager self would have gone nuts for this place, sifting through X-​Men and Batman comics.
Everything is well organized here, and bday of all its clean. It’s not dusty or dingy like some guys basement clutter.
If I ever have kids, I’d bring ‘em here to choose comics any day.

Just met Gerry, owner of Comic Outpost, and must say he is an Awesome Guy doing what he loves. Walking into the store is nostalgic and futuristic all the same time. He told me that if a kid walks into the store they can get a comic book for as much as $ 0.25 how cool is that

Heard and read so much about this place, but finally made a special stop yesterday afternoon just to check it out.
Comic books, all over the place, wall to wall, and all neatly organized. «We have issues» is their motto. If you can’t afford a shrink, you can still afford to walk in.
Comic Outpost reached out deep into my past… at a time when I was an über comic book geek and addicted hobbyist. Part of me remembers my past, and I still marvel at a shop like this that could still have blown away most SF comic book stores that were around in the early 1990s.
Back issues, as costly as $ 70 to $ 100, are easily accessible in the back issue bins (which would have been unheard of 20 years ago, no comic book store back then in their right mind would have those valuable pricey comic books within easy reach). We’re talking first appearance Rogue (Avengers Annual #10 at $ 40 each), John Byrne Uncanny X-​men post 120s hitting the $ 60 to $ 70 mark, and a lone final issue Marvel Star Wars #107 (now priced at $ 100?!), and lots and lots of Bronze Age (1970s) Marvels in VF or better, just sitting in the back issue bins within arms reach. It was pure eye candy gold.
What is even more impressive are the upper part of the walls… pretty much a near complete collection display of Amazing Spiderman, starting with Amazing Fantasy 15 (first appearance ever of Spidey), Amazing Spiderman #1 through… I don’t know…400 or 500? (just saw 700 on the new issue rack!), obviously in varying grades, some even CGC graded. I shudder to think what the value of that entire wall collection would be… it was like a museum! Very very impressive to see that inside a comic book store. It would be like MTV cribs of some MC rapper putting all his Bentleys, Bling Blings, and multi platinium record and grammy awards on display at once.
While I still sound like a geek, I was able to walk out without buying anything, and left my past inside the store.
Now I am just a nigiri sushi and Chinese food geek, and even bigger one at that.
If I were still into collecting, I would have no problem plunking down some hard earned cash for some highly sought after back issue. No longer…
But now that priority has shifted towards other things… like Alaskan King crab, a pristine piece of bluefin, Japanese uni, or a decadent slab of Cantonese BBQ pork (cha siu) and my latest discovery, Frozen Kuhsterd. Some of you may have graduated from comic books to pork belly, foie gras, bacon, fried chicken, and food trucks, and that’s fine too.
Either way, glad to have a store like this around.

This is by far the BEST comic book store that I have ever been to. And trust me, I’ve been to quite a few all through out California. The owner is SUPER nice and attentive to his customers. He encouraged me to take all the photos I wanted of the various busts and toys around the store. The store is covered from floor to ceiling in comics and movie posters. It’s simply brilliant. I have friends flying in from back east that I am bringing here.
He made my day memorable and worth every cent that I spent in there.

My job allows me a great opportunity to travel. One of the fantastic perks associated with this is an opportunity to visit some of the best comic shops on the east and west coasts. To date, Southern California Comics in San Diego is far and away the best shop I have come across for spending hours going through back issues, looking for those hidden issues to complete a run.
Today, I had an opportunity to visit The Comic Outpost in the San Francisco Bay Area and upon walking in, I knew I was in a special place. The space was very clean and well laid out. Hundred of issues adorn the walls and a life size replica of Iron Man welcomes you. Upon entering, I was warmly greeted by a young lady working the cash register while a young man worked on cataloging issues. I noticed there were some stairs leading to an upper area and upon asking, discovered there were boxes of back issue, $ 1 bin books. After walking up the stairs, I was pleased to discover bins of books that i could spend hours going through.
After spending nearly 2 hours pulling out missing books for my collection, I had the opportunity to speak to the owner of the store, Gary Buechler, and discovered he was also a fan of Southern California Comics. After receiving his card, I happily paid (his system is similar to SC Comics… pay for 10 $ 1 comics, receive two free), and left.
I highly recommend the Comics Outpost for any enthusiast looking to fill holes in their collection. The staff was friendly and inviting. Being from the Central Valley, I am happy I have a closer alternative to scratch that back issue itch than traveling to San Dieo.

This place is unbelivable, I blankly stared in awe at all the toys and books, literally every inch this place is packed with tons of great stuff. From the Spiderman pinball machine to the character busts that line the wall, the detail in this shop is impeccable. I wanted to nerd out for hours, I could have nerded out for days. Seemingly every issue of Avengers Volume 1 is lined up along the walls. Some really cool rare books and variants displayed behind the counter, very friendly staff. Out of all the shops I have been to in the bay area, this shop takes the cake as far as atmosphere goes. My only complaint is that the back issue area is a little hard to navigate and it would be nice to see a few more titles in the archives.
The shops in the south bay, like Comics Conspiracy really have much more for back issue selection. More back issue titles is my only complaint about the Comic Outpost.

Quite a selection of newest and latest issues of comic books and easy to get to location. Decent amount of action figures and toys for a comic book store!
Ran out of free issues of comics by 3pm on the annual Free Comic Book Day (of course cannot blame them as they were swamped with customers).
No specials or deals on Free Comic Book Day (can blame them for not willing to attract new customers).
