My daughter and friends were traveling to the Bay Area for a day trip. The serpentine belt broke leaving her stranded on a Saturday. Thomas, although swamped with work (BECAUSE HE’s GREAT!) agreed to keep the shop open and assist. We had the car towed 3 miles to the shop. He worked all weekend to locate the part and kept us updated on the progress. In addition to superior work, the price he charged us was phenomenal!
If I lived in the area, I’d trust Clement Auto Services with any vehicle I had, and HIGHLY recommend that all those who DO live or travel nearby go to see Clement for any auto service need.

We heart Tom! He’s super friendly and kind. No BS about getting my car repaired. I even took my motorcycle (which he doesn’t do but will try to) and got it to work with no charge!!! Who does that? This guy! I recommend this place! Honest, friendly, and legit! Price to repair my car was fair unlike other places I’ve called about.

Went to this guy and writing this review even before he is starting my repairs. Don’t go to anyone else. He is absolutely the best, best, best!!! I know just by talking to the other customers. 35 years and still going. Hope he doesn’t retire!!!

Thomas is one of my favorite people in the city. He is trustworthy, good at what he does, and very reasonable. I’m proud to recommend him to other people. He’s wonderful.

I trust Thomas 100% with my car. He’s helped me out so much over the last few years that I’ve lived in San Francisco. He understands that I’m on a budget and I am in school, which makes it difficult for me to drop a lot of money on my car. This shop has always been fast and I never feel like I’m spending money on any unnecessary things. I hate to be a stereotypical clueless girl when it comes to cars, but let’s face it; cars are not my area of specialty. I have gone to some mechanics that are rude and make me feel like an idiot and it’s not very pleasant. I also have been ripped off big time by mechanics in the past. This won’t happen here, and I won’t go anywhere else in SF for car repairs.

We took a car in to him. The car was a bit of a beater and had been acting strangely. We left it with him for a few hours, and were really grateful when he looked at it pretty quickly. He suggested we get a part, and showed us what to do to keep the car running without problems while we were waiting for the part.
We drove the car immediately to the part place, and they didn’t have it. On the way home (only 15 blocks) the car stopped accelerating and it died. It’s really frustrating that it was in with the mechanic for several hours, and they diagnosed it with a small problem, and then it was dead within a couple of hours. If it was that close to dying, it would have been best if they had recommended keeping the car there and ordering in the part. As it was, we were left in a pretty unsafe situation.
So– three stars because they did see us quickly and were friendly, but definitely not top notch because the car died shortly after leaving their shop.

Our car had the check engine light come on and at the same time began shaking violently at an idle. Initially went to a mechanic down on Geary who didn’t give me a check engine code, didn’t directly address my problem and gave me an estimate for what he called «general maintenance» totaling over $ 700 after the $ 90 he charged to assess and not diagnose my problem.
I eventually found someone with a check engine diagnostic tool and found that there was a misfiring second cylinder.
Called in to Clement Auto and spoke to Thomas who was very friendly and told me he could take a look at it immediately. Identified that the ignition coil was at fault. He replaced the coil and had the car back to me the same day at a very reasonable price. I know some maintenance work is still due but the check engine light is off and the car is running great again. Thanks to these mechanics for addressing my issue in both a timely and cost-​effective manner.

Thomas is the most amazing mechanic you will ever meet. He spent a good 20 minutes on the phone with me, explaining things that other places definitely did not take the time doing. I waited a week to take my car in, since he was booked that weekend, and I am so glad that I did. He was friendly and honest. Charged me less than what he quoted me initially (which was, by the way, way cheaper than other places I got quotes from). I would not hesitate at all the next time my car needs a fix, to take my car to Thomas.

You guys are too cool! I didn’t even go, my girlfriend brought her car there after fleeing for her life from those scuzzball scammers over at Midas on Geary. You saved my girlfriend several thousand dollars by giving an honest diagnosis, and providing honest hard work at an extremely reasonable price.

If you need a mechanic, Tom is your guy. I don’t care if you live all the way in Potrero Hill, it’s worth the trip.
I am a total idiot when it comes to cars and after buying a ’97 Toyota corolla from craigslist, I knew I needed some assistance in making sure the vehicle was up to snuff. Long story short, all the mechanics I visited wanted to charge me even just to check the vehicle out and give it a diagnostic!
When I purchased the car, I had it checked out at a shop in Daily City. The mechanic listed over 7 areas that the car needed repairs. My expenses would have totaled over $ 600. To make matters worse, a week later i got a flat tire. I took the vehicle into a tire repair shop near my house (with excellent Unilocal reviews of course), and they insisted that I needed all 4 tires done and the alignment totaling over $ 450!!! They weren’t even going to let me get the two rear tires done without signing a waver of liability for my safety!
Finally I brought the car over to Tom and he changed the single tire saying that I did not need to get the others changed for a while longer since he was able to match the new tire to the older ones. He also looked at my whole car for free and said the only thing that needed repairs immediately was the timing belt, which he could do for much cheeper than the other mechanic had quoted.
Tom’s got my back. As a woman, this is very comforting! I agree with Paige’s review completely. Thank god, a man we can trust!

Tom is a great guy. Friendly and really cares about your car. I took my 300zx there and he was very knowledgeable for not being a z specialist. He helped me replace some cracked lines and charged me a very reasonable price.

Tom is a good guy. He’s honest and actually very entertaining. He may look like a «geezer» but he gets the job done. With that being said, he gives good service for old school prices. He gets the job done and doesn’t charge unfair extras. For those extras like checking miscellaneous things other than what I bring my car in for, he doesn’t charge a dime. I think he could use some help though. He seems a little overworked, but again he gets the job done. I can’t complain for the prices and service he gives me. As for the entertaining part, he’s a closet guitarist. I kind of snuck up on him and he was playing the guitar, pretty well too.

I have used this place for 2 years for my Toyota and my volvo. He is great, honest fast, and goes the extra mile. I used to drive south of market to a repair garage… but this is so close to me and perfect. He is also a great photographer! The only downside is that he has no message machine and can be hard to get on the phone, and he does not open early!

When I moved to this wonderful city 2 years ago I had to learn to do a lot of things on my own. Like pump my own gas, kill my own spiders, set mouse traps… OK fine I still find somebody else to do the spider and mouse killing. But I really do pump my own gas!
Look, I’m all for equality and women’s rights but some things are dangerous to my manicure. Like changing a battery for instance.
So without Daddy around I had to find a mechanic I trusted. Tom at Clement Auto Service is completely honest and very helpful. I’ve brought my old junker here at least 5 times and he has had plenty of chances to rip me off. Who knew you had to clean the thingy the battery sits in or your car will break down?
He never overcharges me and I always get my car back in time for work. It’s good to finally find a man I can trust! Apologies to any men I know that are offended by that last statement.
Btdub, I walked in one time and he was playing a bad ass guitar so that’s always a plus!

They were super helpful. I had been having trouble with my car, thought my clutch was going out and my check engine light was on. They were going to charge less to check the code than other nearby auto repair shops ($ 45). However, when I brought my car in, they started it up, popped the hood and looked for any cracked, missing or disconnected hoses. Sure enough they found the leaking hose and demonstrated the problem to me. It’s an easy hose to replace so he suggested I do it myself. I went home, duct taped the hose (temporary repair) and the car is running like new. NO CHARGE! I was worried it would be $ 1000 or more and it cost me nothing and took only 5 minutes. I’ll definetly go back there next time I have any issues.

Tom is honest and trustworthy. I have trusted my Miata to him for several yrs now and it runs like new!
