If you are seriously interested in learning the craft of fine acting, what you have in Chris Phillips is an incredibly unique and precious resource. I will venture to say he is likely the most insightful person you will ever meet. And as an actor himself, he is a world-​class tour de force. His acting experience actually goes all the way back to birth, because his family lineage is historic in the acting world. It seems to me he’s absorbed the best of it.
What you have in Chris Phillips is someone who can see more into your process than you can, who knows what you’ll need to become a great actor, who is dedicated and caring, and who has the uncanny ability to communicate it all; making sense out of ambiguity by tailoring every bit of feedback to the utmost efficacy, to guide and encourage the growth in every individual acting student he mentors.
And what «type» of acting does he teach? That is simple: It is REAL. It is you. You mean what you say, you communicate how you feel, and it really matters. This may seem simplistic, but it can be very hard to do. This is the basis of Method Acting. You have to drop all the directorial «ideas» and cross-​talk, and focus on the pure truth in what you’re doing. He is incredibly good at helping people see the light, so to speak, and then shine brightly. I’ve seen people transformed in a session with him! And he is not against other techniques or training, probably unless it impedes you. But otherwise, you use what you can or want to. Acting is such a personal thing. He’ll help you find your way – more directly and efficiently than anyone else I’ve ever seen (and I’ve been in this field as an actor for over 20 years). If I could, I’d give him 10 stars.

If you want to learn how to act, come take Chris’s class. He is definitely hard on you, but is experienced as an actor himself and really helped me break through some barriers. His style is based in traditional method techniques with a twist of his own. He does know a lot about both film/​tv and the theater world, but the class is concentrated on acting technique. He believes at the foundation, beyond agents and managers and luck, you need to be a great actor to go far in this profession and the foundation he helps you build is very solid. Chris may not be the most organized of people, but he’s a brilliant actor, director and genius teacher. Highly recommended!
