Best glass and sash in town; moved to 3032 Taraval Street; btwn 40^th and 41^st streets in the Sunset.

This place is great. A little bit old fashion in the office but very professional. I kind of like when workers don’t spend so much time to make their working place look super nice, but rather work on what they are here for.
Anyway Cara Glass does a very good job and I’ve always found the owner and his employees very honest and nice with me, that old fashion too?

We had a 1920’s window that was broken. The Cara Glass people took our window frame, rebuilt it, put in new glass and had it back to us in a couple of days in perfect working condition. A month later they replaced an 1800’s window that was hopelessly dry rotted. They built an exact replica of the old window. It fit perfectly. No modifications were required. We highly recommend them, especially to anyone who owns a Victorian in San Francisco.

We did a major remodel in 2000 and used Cara Glass for quite a few window replacements. Installation and such went fine. But within five years the double paned windows were fogged up, we had leaking problems, and the wooden sashes were deteriorating. We called Cara to see if they could do something about this — replace them, or work with us to make it right — and they basically quoted us something close to what we paid to have them installed the first time. Why would we make the same mistake twice?

I’m a general contractor here and these folks have made all our wood-​sash windows for many years. The prices are fair, jobs are ready when promised, and nobody knows glass like Paul McGeown. They regularly will go out of their way to accommodate me by meeting me before they open or staying a bit late so I can pick up my windows. Mark has always had the patience of Job with our often-​frantic orders. Sure, proposals and invoices are hand-​scribbled, but they deliver the goods.

We bought 30 large pieces of double-​pane glass for our Eichler home from this company, and one of them failed (fogged up). I contacted their office about replacing this piece of glass. I agreed that I would have responsibility and would pay for the installation
Over a period of more than two months and about twenty calls from me (most of which they actually did not return or even answer the phone), they pretended like they were going to honor the guarantee, and provide the replace the glass. When it came down to trying to arrange the shipment, they suddenly stated that the piece was too large and too expensive for them to replace.
Highly irresponsible and disappointing.

You don’t need an artist to make a window repair, but a skilled craftsman is essential. Cara Glass & Sash has helped me to replace wooden sashes in my home and their work is excellent. They’re prices are reasonable and they are accurate on the timetable of when your work will be completed. SF is lucky to have Irish trained craftsmen like John Paul and his crew.

Places like this make me love San Francisco. My movers managed to break one of my windows and I was in a bind to fix the window in a hurry before getting the apartment inspected before my move out. For some reason, I had always walked down Divis and said to myself, why the hell would I want a glass shop on my street, it should be a thrift store or some other trendy bar/​coffee shop… but alas, I was way off.
Cara Glass and Sash totally saved me when I was in a bind. I was able to remove my window and walk it down to Cara Glass & Sash, walk in, and get a quote, and get that thing fixed. It took about an hour and $ 75, and I walked out of there with a new window for WAY less than I was quoted at other places.
No credit card machine and less than stellar communication skills, but they know how to do glass and do it on the cheap and for me that’s 4 stars when it comes to glass companies. Would have been 5 stars if the guy would have held the door as I struggled to get in with my pane, but hey, he had stuff to do too.

Needed to find someone who could mount some frameless mirrors above the bathroom vanities. Called Cara Glass, left one message. No reply. Walked in and left a message in person. Said they’d get back to me. No reply. Called them again and they said they wouldn’t do that kind of job, but would get back to me with a referral. No reply. Guess they didn’t care that much about a small job or establishing a relationship with a client for a future job. Waste of my time. I called Golden Gate Glass and they responded immediately w a quote and an appointment. Done. Guess who I’ll be going back to for my window replacements!

I broke a window at home and called 5 glass companies before I got even an estimate for a replacement.
The other 4 never even called me back. Cara gave me a quote on the spot, stuck to their price and had everything shipshape and back to normal in no time at all.

I’m a bit of a klutz. I know! It’s shocking, but please, there’s a story here. So, we have these really nice built in glass cabinets in the kitchen, & I closed one of them on a plate that was sticking out too far. This resulted in a nice crack right in the center of the glass.
NOT fun.
Thankfully, there’s a glass shop right down the street on Divisadero. I’ve walked past this place a thousand times or more since I’ve been living in the hood & barely ever given it a second thought.
I brought the door in & they fixed it up good as new for $ 35 by the next day. The only complaint I’d have is that they forgot to call me to let me know it was done (not really that big of a deal in the grand scheme, though).
Klutzes take note: Cara Glass is very reasonably priced & has fast service. Keep these guys in the rolodex.

We had this company replace two of our old rotted sashes and had an excellent experience from start to finish. We first set up an appointment to have them come out to give us a quote. They were able to come quickly and give us the quote on the spot. The guys that installed the new windows were professional, quick and clean — no big messes for us to clean up.
Throughout the process it was apparent these guys know their stuff. Our beautiful new windows are a testament to that!
