Be careful and do your homework before hiring a financial advisor. Make sure they have a fiduciary responsibility to you. Jordan Miller is simply an Ameriprise franchisee. Ameriprise has one of the worst reputations in the industry! Like all wire-​house brokers, they make money off selling high-​fee and commission products to their clients. Do your homework. Don’t go off Unilocal reviews from clients who may not realize they are being taken to the cleaners or have never had a truly independent financial advisor to compare the experience with. These guys will push annuities, which conveniently, have the highest fees and penalties. Just google Ameriprise complaints and you’ll learn all you need to know. Don’t make the same mistakes I did!

I’ve turned to these folks for years for advice. I appreciate their honesty and integrity, and I’ve never left with anything other than the feeling I was getting good advice that had my best interests at heart. I have used Jordan, Miller and Associates for years (10) and am well educated about financial planning and costs involved. I have researched many firms and costs are really relative to a long-​term strategy and commitment to being part of the process. We set up my goals first, then we looked at the strategies that could help me achieve these goals and then they made it very clear what fee’s were associated with each investment. The difference I have found with this firm is that they care about each client and are not interested in putting you into investments and then they go on their way. They keep engaged every year and even though there is a fee involved, I am MORE than will to pay for it because it is regular professional advice just like an attorney or CPA firm. There are many «self-​service» financial firms or those that use cheap cookie cutter strategies but if you want a firm that takes care to develop a strategy tailor to the individual client, then this is the firm to use.
I also like the fact that Ameriprise and Jordan, Miller, and Associates care of about the uniqueness of they gay and lesbian clients and stay in-​tune with all the changing and quite frankly, challenging laws around individual yet joint finances.
This firm really cares about its clients and the community it serves.

I’ve been with Ameriprise for a number of years now and am pleased with their financial guidance but had been disappointed by their advisors. My first advisor literally disappeared with no goodbye and I was only made aware of her departure when my second advisor called to inform me that I was his client now. But then he disappeared with no goodbye and no third advisor calling me to let me know they’d be handling my account. So I went to Brandon who advises my best friend and was able to transfer my account to Jordan, Miller & Associates.
No more disappointment and I now have a reliable and amazing advisor.
I haven’t been with Brandon Miller long but we’ve already accomplished what I’d only been able to talk about with the previous two advisors. The advice I receive is sound and I trust him completely. The same can also be said of the entire office and the other associates. I read the other two reviews of Ameriprise with interest and a sense of deja vu. The Ameriprise Financial Advisors Jordan Miller invested all of our 401K and 403B savings in IDS annuities. We were told that this was necessary to shelter the savings from taxes and so we would not have to pay income tax on the gains until we took the money out in retirement. Naïve as we were, we trusted them. It was only later that my husband ran across the S.E.C. consumer protection website which has an explanation of why this was unethical (but not illegal) behavior on the part of the financial advisor. In addition our financial advisor tried very hard to sell us all kinds of insurance that we now see were in no way needed including disability insurance and long term care insurance which we clearly could not afford. We too were presented with completed insurance applications out of the blue for our signature and made to feel stupid for not immediately signing. On several occasions towards leaving Jordan Miller we asked our advisor to tell us what fees we were paying on our investments. We were never able to get an answer. After finally reading the very fine print in IDS contracts, it appeared that these annuities were costing 2.8%. Fees on our other non-​qualified accounts seemed to be between 50 to 100% higher than similar funds elsewhere and always included Riversource.
During our tenure with Jordan Miller, Ameriprise was refusing to include on monthly and annual statements the effective rate of return on accounts and change in value not due to deposits/​withdrawals on accounts – I believe they now indicate the change in value but still refuse to tell you your effective rate of return. (All other companies do.) We requested this information from our FA several times. The response was a memorized talking point that did not change from time-​to-​time: «…the rate of return is not important. It’s your progress towards your retirement goals is important and that’s what we measure progress by.»
Finally, you will read complaints about Ameriprise withdrawing money from clients’ accounts without their knowledge or approval. This happened to us towards the end of our relationship when Jordan Miller decided on their own without our knowledge or consent what our annual fee (on top of the undisclosed commissions) would be and took it out of our account. They did reimburse us, however, once we complained and terminated. We too felt warm and fuzzy with our financial advisor until we began to educate ourselves and ask questions to which we generally could not get an answer from our advisor. Our relationship with Jordan Miller was a very expensive learning experience.

I was amazed to read Peter’s one-​star review of Joanne Jordan and her practice. I’ve been a client of Joanne’s for over 10 years and have been very happy with her, feeling that she truly takes time to understand my goals, my comfort level, and my priorities. She was an intensive care nurse, and has carried that nurturing attitude into her new career, along with a deep interest and expertise in financial services. Most importantly, I trust her absolutely. I’ve been at gatherings with other clients of hers and her business partner Brandon Miller’s, and have scarcely heard a bad word about them or their associates.
