Americas Best Value Inn & Suites – SoMa

Booked this room through Hotwire and I have booked many rooms through that site, but never like this one. The place was gross to say the least. Ended up not even staying in the hotel and booked elsewhere. First, there is no parking. The hotel itself is not well maintained, the whole place was very dirty, old and grimy. The room itself was probably the worst of the whole experience. It was tiny, the sheets were dirty, stained and smelled like urine. There was no AC and to top it off out window was right above a junk alley. We are not from the area, but if you’re looking for a decent place to stay and enjoy SF, do not stay here.

Central location in the city, friendly & knowledgeable staff, and… wait for it… a clean, well appointed, somewhat dated room. While traveling, we missed a flight & were able to find this comfortable space in soma. Despite the inn being sold out the night before, the staff held my numerous (4) large pieces of luggage until we were allowed an early check in at noon. Definitely 5 stars for customer service!

I gave 5 stars for service i received. As far as hotel it could use some cosmetic repairs i would recommend this hotel for a after club need a quick place to stay not a romantic get away.

Have stayed off and on there for years but Labor Day visit was the worst experience ever. Major Bed Bug Invasion in Room #202. My friend was severely bitten all over his arm and shoulder. I told night manager who offered only one room with one bed… that wouldn’t work. He did check on us by called at 2am ??
Hotel Manager next day did nothing and when I mentioned incident, got a weak apology and said we could change rooms… he asked that we bring all our items downstairs, we didn’t and had them move the items. No discount or taking the first night off the bill. No concern for a guest that had severe bites. a bad experience, not to be repeated.
Noisy rooms due to bar on the corner as well.

I stayed there on Saturday July 11, 2015 with my fiancé. Cost for one night was almost $ 200 through Expedia. The room was clean; bathroom ok. However, there is no parking, and no air conditioning. Even with the window open the room is hot and stuffy. Also, a band plays at a club next door till 2AM; it is so loud that you can’t sleep until they stop playing, which is at 2AM or later. Additionally the neighborhood is «interesting» many characters walking around; we were awakened by a gun shot outside early in the morning. Would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

This place worked out in a pinch as other hotels in the area were $ 275 and up, but I wouldn’t stay here for more than one night. It’s run down and there are a lot of stains. The man who checked me in was very friendly.

Horrible! This was by far the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed at. My room was on the second floor and my windows had no screens, the shower was clogged, there’s no ac, the elevator feels like it’s going to break, the front desk person was rude and uninviting, not to mention our valleylt person was wasting our gas with his heavy foot. Vallet parking is over priced and 5 blocks so you’ll be waiting a good half hour to get your car. my friend has contacted their management only to have them reply with «honesty is the policy» and denying all their faults in their lodging. If I could give this rating no stars I would.

We were looking for a historic hotel in San Fransisco. It is just that. Clean rooms, firm beds, updated bathrooms. Just what we were expecting: pictures were accurate and staff were accommodating and friendly and Valet parking. There was lights and street noises, but to us it was part of the experience.
We encountered a few hiccups, such as poor working ceiling fan and warm room, shampoo out, but they were quick to respond. Only real problem was we were on second floor not far from entrance and people were smoking outside and it would come into our open windows. They offered to change our rooms but it was a difficult process. Get a room on a higher floor or away from entrance.

I’ve stayed here seven separate times. Yeah, it’s shabby. There are stains on the chair, etc. But damn, it’s cheap. It’s hard to get a hotel room for around $ 100 in SF. Even $ 150 can be difficult.
The staff is friendly, the rooms are clean, and the location is great — 10 minute walk or 4 minute bus ride to Market. Great restaurants and bars to be had in SOMA.
I visit my best friend at least once a year in SF and this place makes it doable.

My wife and I were in SoMa for a business trip so we booked this hotel just down the street from our destination. The price was fairly low for the area, but there were some cheaper hotels — I just wouldn’t recommend them or their locations. The front desk workers were all friendly and helpful. The hotel itself is a bit older and could use some TLC.
The streets in this area are all one way, so you will have to do circles if you miss the small alley to the front door on your first attempt (Hallam St. — between 7^th and 8^th streets on Folsom). Also, watch out for cyclist in the bike lane!
There was some remodeling done that made our room nicer, but it still had that «leave your socks on» vibe to it. We saw neither bug nor critter, but it never hurts to be prepared.
There was a mini-​fridge and small safe in the room. The TV was nice, but automatically shut off every hour. They had the inputs blocked, but I was able to run our laptop to the TV with the HDMI input from the satellite receiver. They also had some coffee and muffins in the morning.
The only real bad thing is the parking situation — there is none. You can get away with leaving a car outside for a couple of minutes, but you’ll have to valet it or find a garage for over night. The garages in that area will be about $ 40 for 24 hours. There was an open lot a block or two up at a car wash that did $ 30 /​night, but it’s a sketchy area. The hotel has a contract with a valet service that will cost about $ 31 w/​tax. However, it can take upwards of 45 minutes to retrieve your car, so plan ahead.

Stayed for 4 nights for 2 people and came out to around $ 500 or so.
We payed $ 28/​night for «valet parking» that required us to call 30 minutes in advance just to get our car. That’s ridiculous, $ 150 for a car service that isn’t immediate.
Curtains were stained, the blankets were thinner than skin and the alarm clock had to be older than me. The only thing that might be the room’s saving grace was the remodeled bathroom that were fortunately clean. The beds were very obviously old and my back felt even older after having spent a night on it.
Although we expected it to be dingy and small, we were not expecting to wake up the first night to our room being over 85 degrees. Both my friend and I were woken up at an ungodly hour just sweating profusely with scratchy throats. We were shocked to find the thermometer setting at 70 degrees. After 2 hours and turning the knob to 45 degrees, it was still too hot to sleep with the windows opened.
We told them about it in the morning, only to be told they would look into it later (which they never did). I would expect a discount or at least a change of rooms after being incubated in an oven for a night, but alas… we expected too much.
I would stay here only as an alternative if Plans A and B have been booked but not otherwise.

This was a comfortable hotel. Mini fridge, TV, and a nice bathroom. They only had body wash and conditioner provided, so that was confusing. The front desk service was professional and helpful, giving me directions to where I needed to go. I’m knocking it down to three stars because they don’t have parking. You have to look for it on the streets, and in San Francisco, that’s comparable to looking for a needle in a haystack. There are many restaurants and bars around the hotel, which accounted for some young, drunk men harrassing me as I walked past them. I like America’s Best Value Inn, but this location was not the best. I don’t think I’ll stay here again.

Horrible, gross, filthy. There are stains on the furniture, every surface is sticky, mold on the bathroom walls. Really bad. I was booked for two nights and because I complained they offered to give me the second night free. It was so bad I refused it.
I checked for bed bugs and although I didn’t see any, I have bites. DO NOT STAY HERE. This place should be shut down.

Disgusting. Horrible front desk person, rude and refused to give me a refund after I politely told him his room was too dirty for me. (Hair on light fixtures, crumbs on floor)
He then stated he could give me another room. Why? The house keeping obviously sucks. Yep, the 2^nd room was just as gross.
I tossed & turned all night on the bouncy mattress. My instinct told me to sleep in my car. I wish I had listened, because I now have bite marks all over my calves!!!
Bed bugs !!!
I’m so irate I could go back down there and DEMAND to be refunded my money.
I would not stay here again if someone paid me to. Think small bedbug infested murder scene. If that sounds like a dream then you should try it !!

Overall it started out decent for the kind of stay it was. The free breakfast had a small selection. Coffee and pastries. Pastries are dry. It was quiet on the 4^th floor. There’s no ac, just the windows and ceiling fan that doesn’t provide much cooling. Slept without blankets. The part that made me angry was that they quoted 20+tax for valet parking. It was actually 28+tax. And they stated they knew it had been an issue but did not adjust the price.

Not gonna lie I always check for bed bugs in all hotels I have stayed at, this one was no different. We were bug free! WHew. We booked a two bed room for four of us (3 day weekend). The room was small and comfortable. We were on like the 3^rd floor and I loved that the window faced the street. The hotel is small, the hallways are small, elevator is small but again it is just fine. It was very reasonable pricing and split in four was even better. The staff was prompt with anything we needed. The location is great, we were able to walk to union sq. and to pretty much anything. Rode the MUNI to golden gate park and grabbed a cab to the Castro district… it was perfect for us. «)
Parking: They charge for parking so be prepared.
There are two bars right around the corner which is fantastic if you arrive to the hotel ready to relax and have a glass of wine or beer ;) They were remodeling the place when we were there last month, maybe it will be better next time we stay there.

Stayed in room 301 and I was bed bug free! That’s all that matters right? Everything worked and my weekend trip was all in all comfortable ENOUGH.
Walls are pretty thin (could hear my neighbors when trying to sleep), can hear doors slam a lot throughout the night, the floors creak so much it makes me feel like a 500lb woman, and that Raven bar downstairs sure knows how to party/​cause a ruckus!
For the price you pay just to have four walls and the necessities… it isn’t a bad place. Don’t come here and expect to be a prince or a princess… or expect any real luxury haha.

Cheap and in a safe area. Rooms are what you’d expect.
Valet/​Parking is $ 25 for the night
Only issue was that our door didn’t lock when closed, like you didn’t need a key card, you could just open the door, but when we called down to the desk and they sent mgmt up, they did something and it worked. Just beware I guess.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the hotel for a night during the Nike Women’s Half Marathon weekend. We had a really good stay.
We were very pleased with the front desk customer service and were able to check-​in early on Saturday. During check-​in, the lady at the front desk even gave us a room with double beds instead of the king bed room I had paid for.
The room was on a quiet side, which I really appreciated because I was running in the event the next day. There was a mini-​fridge and tv with basic cable channels.
What I really appreciated was after the race, I had to call and inform the front desk that we were running late because of all of the traffic after the event. We were really late after the check-​out time and I was expecting a late fee. The front desk was really understanding and appreciated that I was running for a charity and didn’t charge us at all for being late.
Thank you to America’s Best Value Inn and Suites, we had a pleasant stay and will come back when we are in SF again!

Although we appreciated the front desk holding on to our bags during the day before our room was ready, we arrived back at 2:30 as the very prominent sign hanging in the lobby indicated 2pm was check-​in time. We were sent up to a room not yet visited by housekeeping, then chastised for showing up before check-​in: 3pm for confirmed guests, 2pm for walk-​ins was the explanation given. Although they did switch us to a room that was ready, the attitude and time discrepancy was more than enough to leave a bad taste in my mouth.
No noise complaints from us, as our room was at the far end of the hotel so weren’t bothered by the bar crowd below. What was bothersome about our room: dirty pillowcases, a ceiling fan caked with years of dust and dirt, exactly two tiny towels provided, and a shower head nearly too low for me to use (I’m 5’2) and dribbling water pressure. There’s other value priced hotels in the area I’d book for next time.
