We have used Alaska three times now (since 2012) and overall, we are very satisfied.
Our boiler is over 60 years old and we are surprised (but glad) that the problems have been solvable (without the replacement of the entire boiler).
This last instance, we called Alaska at 7am on a Sunday morning after having no heat all night. Dago promptly answered the phone (by the way, we called other companies, including the previous times we had trouble and after leaving a message, no one ever called us back). He was very transparent about the rate for a weekend call and candid that the parts could not be obtained on a Sunday, whatever the problem was. He agreed to have someone come out the first thing on Monday morning, which they did.
Regarding our latest problem, Dago’s communication was great between his technicians who came out as well as to us. The appointments were always met on time, the parts were installed promptly and the technicians showed us, while in the process of replacing the solenoids, water valves which were almost completely clogged with sediment (and they gave us the option of either flushing the valves or replacing them, thereby involving us in the decision making process and stating clearly the cost difference, pros and cons, etc).
Finally, after all the work was done, one of our baseboard heaters was still not getting hot. I called Dago and he explained over the phone the simple procedure of bleeding air out of the pipes for that one baseboard heater which I did and it cured the problem without having someone come out again.
We think that the rates are reasonable and once a price was quoted, they adhered to that quote even if the amount of time for the repair went beyond what they expected.
We would certainly recommend Alaska Refrigeration to others.

Can’t say enough about the great service we received from Alaska Refrigeration. Spent the whole day working on a broken furnace. Great people, great job. Nice warm house on a cold, cold night.

After trying to work with this company for over a year, I’m finally fed up. Thousands of dollars worth of repairs I was later told were unnecessary, and they don’t stand behind their work at all. They would quote me one price, then charge another. I’ve lost thousands of dollars worth of inventory due to their repairs failing.
STAY AWAY!!!

Casey showed up on time, and diagnosed and fixed our wall heater problem within an hour. Stellar service!

Dago and his crew are life savers. They have pulled through twice in emergency situations. The first time it was the Sunday of Labor Day at 10 pm. No one was working… but Dago was! He managed to find the part I needed and fix my boiler. SO HAPPY. The second time was on a Saturday when I had lost hope, but they managed to get my boiler working again.
They have excellent pricing (and even offered to match and beat competitors), are fast to get to the job, are open and willing to help when others are not, do great work and are nice guys.
I recommend them and would use them again.

Alaska saved us some serious money and major headache! Dago and his crew were called when we purchased a used walk-​in refrigerator for our catering company and had we not had them, I’m not sure we would have been able to open. They were extremely polite and did an amazing job getting our used walk-​in up and running. I would recommend this company to people out there needing their services. I felt the price was fair and work was quality!

My experience with Alaska couldn’t have been better. The service from was fast, efficient, and courteous.
When my furnace stopped working at 6:30 p.m. on a Thursday evening with a cold and windy winter night coming, I called about an emergency repair for the same evening. When I spoke with Dago on the phone, he informed me someone could be there within 30 to 45 minutes or he could schedule me for early the following morning. He made sure I fully understood the much higher minimum cost of emergency service before I made a decision about when to schedule the work. Because one of my house mates was ill with bronchitis, I didn’t want to go through a night without heat and I agreed to the additional cost for emergency service. Dago arrived within 30 minutes, and had everything working again within an hour (bad thermostat wiring and pilot light generator.) He then checked out the rest of the system and also suggested some preventive maintenance I could do myself which was very helpful.
Though the emergency service was expensive, it was well worth it to me and my house mates. I really appreciated the professionalism, efficiency and great service I received.

stay away. con artists. don’t trust the girl on the phone. two guys has no clue what are they doing. tried to overcharge. hope will not encounter any problems later.

Yesterday I left voicemails with 4 appliance repair companies that I found on Unilocal to have 5 star reviews asking them to come and repair our companies industrial size ice maker. It is 24 hours later and I never got a phone call back from any of those 4 companies.
At the same time last night, I had not even seen Alaska on Unilocal since their star rating was so low on the list. But Alaska had paid advertising through Google, so their ad popped up on the side bar of my Unilocal screen. I called them at 640p last night and they returned the call within 2 hours. Showed up this morning by noon, had the problem fixed within 30 minutes and helped show us a couple of pointers on how to efficiently maintain the ice maker. The price of $ 400 seemed high (thus the 4 out of 5 stars), but the work was incredible, helpful and professional…
and again, no one else called me back as of now (24 hours after calls).
At the end of his work, the repairman asked me to write a Unilocal review if I was happy with their work… that is when I saw the horrible reviews for Alaska.
So, the work was great for us, a little pricey maybe, but quality none the less.

My 19-​year-​old furnace malfunctioned. It was very cold outside and my tenant had to tape paper over the vents overnight because, although the heater did not work, it kept blowing cold air into the unit. I had to get it fixed fast and my regular appliance company was busy. I found this company online and Diego came out that day. Although the job was longer than there was time for at the end of the day, Diego did enough so my tenant could have heat for the night.
He was going to send a fellow worker the next day, but I insisted that I wanted him to finish the job. He came back the next day and finished the job: cleaning out and servicing the furnace, which I had done almost nothing to, maintenance-​wise, in ten years. The tenant had heat. I was out 1k. But, the job was done fast and Diego convinced me he knew what he was doing.
Additionally, Diego recommended I install a carbon monoxide detector, which, I of course, did.
I am very pleased and may very well use Diego to service another troublesome heater I have, depending on the cost.

This company is a total rip off! They scam you with costs for diagnostics then they lie about the problems quoting huge dollars for nothing. Stay away from them is all I can advise after experiencing the unprofessional behavior of their technician. He wanted $ 1500 to do the ‘repair’ and replace a control board which was not the problem. They not only misdiagnosed the problem but they charged exorbitant fees for the diagnostic ($ 400 for a half hour of travel and one hour of fiddling). The technician also offered to do a repair for less than the quote if he did the repair on the side and not through the company. That’s when we said no thanks.

RIP OFF. Stay away from this company. I had a sudden break of my heating system at home. I called this company and the customer service lady was very nice but she sent a mechanic name Dago to my home. He came to my home and said he would charge $ 120 just to be there and repeatedly kept saying he is gonna’ leave if I didn’t agree to that. He said he told me on the phone that it was 120 dollars to come out but I don’t remember him telling me that upfront plus the girl who answered the phone should have told me that. plus, he threatened me he was gonna’ leave and has many customers if I don’t agree. Long story short, once we got over the undisclosed 120 dollar issue, I caught him installing a cheaper heat adjustment panel after he showed me the more expensive one. This guy kept telling me how lucky I’m to have him there (?). He opened up the whole heater and everything before giving me an estimate, of course then I had no way out. He had no manners. RIP OFF

I had the opposite experience. I don’t know what was up with you guys… Dago came and gave me the options and prices. I chose to replace the unit. He did so at lower than the quoted price. I then was unhappy with the unit due to it’s small size. After doing research I came to the same conclusion he had come to, which was that this was the only unit available. Dago came multiple times to try to make me happy and eventually ended up repairing my old unit. He did not charge me for any of this, as I had paid for what we both thought would be a solution. I am a small business owner myself and know what customer service means… and this was it. I would definitely use him again, and I drive a hard bargain.

DO NOT HIRE; THEY ARE THEIVES AND UNPROFESSIONAL.
I decided to take a risk with this company, when my regular heating company wasn’t able to send a tech over quickly enough. I should have known they were bad news when the tech who came, Dago, spent over 10 minutes explaining his charges. The reason why it took so long was because he could not explain clearly how he charged. Finally, I confirmed with him that he’d charge $ 120 for the first half hour, and then $ 120 for the each hour after. Then, if we hire him to actually repair the problem, the charges would be applied towards a flat-​rate charge.
He began his diagnostic and about 40 minutes later, he found the problem. Unfortunately for me (or maybe fortunately), the problem had to do with a pump that I still had a warranty on, so I wanted my original company to repair it. Otherwise, I’d have to pay this fool to buy a new pump, when I can get it replaced with the warranty. At this point, I was ready to tell him his services were no longer needed. But he continued to ramble on for at least 15 minutes, offering me other services and his prices. I was not in the least bit interested, and suspected he was trying to increase his time to bill me. Then, he took his sweet time filling out the paperwork. In the end, he billed me for 1.5 hours, when really, he literally «worked» for 40 minutes max.
I called him out for trying to bill me for the time he tried to sell me his other services and told him I would not pay for that time. Eventually, he billed me for 1 hour total.
And to make things more frustrating, he would not give me a receipt for my payment with a credit card. In fact, he was going to just casually write down my credit card info onto his notebook full of crap. I refused to give him my info until he produced some sort of document that at least looked somewhat official that I can put my info on. As for the receipt? I had to take a blank document from him, and make him sign to verify that I paid, and would only be charged the agreed amount. How can a business dare to charge someone money, and not offer a receipt?
Dago looked and acted like a shady character.

I wish I would have read the Unilocal before using Alaska. Our heater took a dive on us last night and we have a 2 year old so it needed it to be fixed ASAP. I called Alaska this morning and got an appointment in 3 hours later which was great. My issue is they give you info without REALLY giving you info. I was told it was a $ 180 two hour min due to drive time. I took that as $ 90 an hour WRONG. WHen the serviceman walked in my door he had a contract with NO pen and said its $ 360 for 2 hours and $ 20 gas. So before anything was looked at I was already in the hole $ 380! Then it was an ignition problem that was a $ 75 part and I was charged a whooping $ 760 for about 2 hours worth of work! Only thing I got was a new airfilter thrown in cause my friend and I were flabbergasted! I wanted to have him leave right when he showed me the contract but pretty sure I would be charged for him coming out any way. My home was 59 degrees this morning and I have a little girl! I will NEVER use this company again. They should be ashamed of them selves. by the looks of these postings they wont have customers for long! WAY OVER PRICED

TERRIBLE! THIEF AND RIP OFF ARTIST.
Dago came to my home to diagnose an issue with my home furnace. I agreed to pay $ 120 for the diagnosis. After about 45 minutes with the furnace Dago told me that it was an electrical issue. I knew that it was an electrical issue so this was not what I considered to be a diagnosis. Dago told me that for $ 850 he could find the problem, fix the problem and restore heat to my home. I was suspicious of how he could be sure he could fix it and what the price should be if he did not know what the problem was. When I told him this he lowered the price to $ 650. This made me even more suspicious. Dago then told me that his rate was $ 180 per hour and he had been there for more than two hours (which was a lie) and that I owed him more than $ 360.
I then contacted Chris Levering of Chris Levering Heating & Cooling. Chris told me that he couldn’t find anything wrong except that parts had been taken from my furnace and a number of wires disconnected. Chris reconnected the wires and had my furnace running again and charged me $ 150 for the diagnosis and repair of Dago’s handiwork.
I called Dago to confront him about stealing parts from my home. He admitted to taking one switch which he claimed was to find a new replacement (although the switch was working) but he could not give any explanation for taking one of the connection plugs. He said that maybe he took it by mistake or lost it somewhere inside the furnace!
This is the first time I have posted a review on Unilocal but feel like I need to do something in reaction to the way I was treated. I’ll also be contacting the Better Business Bureau, the Department of Consumer Affairs and anyone else that will listen.

We have a commercial production kitchen in the East Bay and found ourselves totally in a bind the day before Thanksgiving, when our boilers went out. Alaska sent us Dagoberto and he was awesome! Not only did he show up on Thanksgiving, but he and his guys worked through the weekend to make sure that we were up and running in time for Monday morning. He offered us a flat rate option as well as an hourly option. We took the very competitive flat –rate option for a job well-​done and service that was outstanding. Dago is very eager to do a good job and thoroughly explains everything. Clearly, he is passionate about the work he does and it shows… Thank you, Alaska!

If I could give no stars… Believe me. I would.
So I found out about them on craigslist… I had them come for a $ 100 estimate and they found multiple problems on why I wasn’t getting heat. From my ignition system, to my impeller wheel, to all my air filters were dirty, it was a $ 1800 problem for parts and labor to fix and a fire hazard. But if we wanted to do it properly, we should change out the whole unit for $ 9500.00
Another company came, found the impeller wheel to be the only issue and the part was only $ 64 dollars. Are you kidding me?
The air filters were picked up at home depot. The rest of the unit was vacuummed and blown out as well as the company but a rust inhibitor free of charge. I got out of it for less than $ 400.
The technician, also gave us his cell # if we wanted to renegotiate.. . This is most likely the most shady business I’ve seen in quite some time.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS… 400% difference in price. for repair,
2000% difference if we were to REPLACE. ridiculous.
SHAME ON YOUR ALASKA REFRIGERATION.

Well, I didn’t read the previous reveiew before trying them, but my heater conked out the first night of our snap freeze and we desperately needed someone to come out on a saturday and fix our problem. The guy they sent out, Dagoberto, was awesome. He let us know when to expect him and stayed in touch with us during the day to let us know if he’d be coming earlier than expected (which he did).
While here, he was neat & tidy, cordial & polite, and very patient in explaining the problem. He had the needed part in his van and our heater was fixed in no time at all.
That was almost a week ago. This week has been unusually cold but we’ve been enjoying our toasty warm home.

These guys have worked on my home’s heating /​air conditioning unit two times now…
Both times they came, they were very nice and got my unit running again in no time. The price was fair, they were very clean and they were really good about answering all of my questions too (and believe me, there are always a lot of them!)
I will definitely be calling them again in the future =-)
