Ada Cook

I have to second Andy’s review about Ada Cook. I hate to say anything disparaging about someone but I truly think she is emotionally unstable. She has extreme mood swings — changes on a dime. I’ve gone from being literally screamed at, to a sentence of sickly sweetness, to back to being screamed at, all in one conversation.
As far as upkeep in her apartment building — she takes the cheapest route and band-​aid fixes things rather than addressing the root of the problem initially. I had multiple instances of either no hot water, or no water at all while I was living in her building — once for as long as 2 weeks.
And, if you do happen to live in her building (or are contemplating it), be aware that there’s no way you will get your deposit back when you move out, regardless of how well you took care of your apartment.
I also recently saw a posting she had for a vacancy in her building in which she posted pictures taken of my old apartment — she clearly had taken the pictures at some point without my knowing, which means she must have let herself in unannounced, as Andy indicated in his post.
Do NOT rent from her. Sadly, the apartments in her Cabrillo Street building are very nice, but it’s not worth dealing with her craziness.

As someone who lived with Ada Cook as a landlord for four years, I want to make a STRONG warning to tenants to avoid having this woman as your landlord. She is an extremely brazen and hot-​headed individual who cannot listen to anybody for more than four seconds, constantly blames you for the problems in your apartment and — worst of all — lets herself into your apartment unannounced.
To live in her building, you must resign yourself to living under someone who has no sense of professionalism and no concept of boundaries. Once she even tried to open the neighbors doors to put their garbage cans in cause she said it was bringing down property values!
Avoid and save yourself some stress! If you do, get used to pedantic lectures and endless drama!
