Zumwalt’s Bicycle Center

The guys at Zumwalt’s are always helpful and friendly. I have been in on many occasions. They have serviced my familie’s bikes and I buy any accessories I need (last time I was in, I picked up a pair of biking gloves). I always feel like I being «taken care of» there. Its the only shop in town I trust.

I had the misfortune of getting my seat and post stolen off of my bike at the SDSU Library late at night, so I decided to bring my bike in to Zumwalt’s to get it replaced!
The employees were sympathetic and helpful to me, and they were able to get my bike fully functional again fairly quickly!

Rented a really nice Norco mountain bike over the weekend. The staff was friendly and passed on some sound advice for my time on the trails. Really nice selection of bikes including Specialized, Norco and other brands. Was told I can credit my rental toward a purchase, so I would def consider buying new. Thanks!

I Bought a Bicycle back on December (Norco Tactic, 105 groupset) and they were very helpful. Full fitting for the bike to accommodate a back injury and took great care to make the ride perfect. Not only was it a great deal (over a $ 1000 off the website price, end of year sale) Fast forward 2.5 months and twenty pounds lighter I crashed (my own fault,) they again bent over backwards to do a meticulous look over the bike and gave me a killer deal on wheels. I honestly don’t know how they made a profit to pay the bills! Excellent service and very friendly stall.
Hayley (sp?) helped my wife pick out a hybrid and made my wife, a non rider take the plunge in trying a bike out. My wife likes her Specialized Vita. It’s heavy but it’s comfortable too. Once she builds her confidence I’m sure we’ll be back to get her a proper road bike. She’s already excitedly planned and completed several 40+ miles rides with it… thanks Hayley!
Todd the store owner is very professional even when he’s busy and always takes the time to say hello. Chris one of the mechs was instrumental in pairing me with my bike and I’m looking foward to rides soon with him and the guys.
High recommend these guys. They will always give you a straight answer about what you are thinking even if it may not be what you want to hear (HONEST) they will guide you to what you might be able to afford or alternate solutions. They are very experienced, oldest bike shop in San Diego.

Bullshit. Overpriced repairs, sells TERRIBLE gear and has the customer service of a douche. Wanted $ 30 to replace a front brake cable. Never again. Go anywhere but here.

¹⁰⁄₁₀ would recommend! I took my bike in for various problems and I thought it would have taken a week because they had to order a part but surprise, it only took 3 days! It was super affordable too, they estimated less then $ 50 and it was only $ 26! They’re very nice people and I would go back for sure if I had any other problems.

Zumwalt’s is a place with a great group of workers helping the bicycle riders with good knowledge and good cheer! A guy named Steve was a big help when I was trying to buy a lock and chain set. I bought a high-​end one, and afterward I thought that my bike [a bike I got from somewhere else], not being too much of a high-​end bike, could use a cheaper lock; Steve was very hospitable in the refund, and I bought the cheaper lock. Thanks Steve, for the kind and dignified treatment! You Rock Dude!!! Zumwalt’s has always been what makes my old neighborhood of Rolando a place I’ll always call home!!!

The bike fitting for my new bike was about as thorough as you can get. I’ve bought a couple of bikes over the past few years from other bike stores and have never had this kind of detail to get my bike perfectly set up for my individual geometry. On top of that I get lifetime tune ups.

I went there due to great reviews and bought some break pads while visiting. Next coulple days went to REI and saw the $ 12.95 pads i bought for $ 8. Ouch thats a lot more. Wouldnt buy again in a price trusting manner.

Brought my bike in for new brakes, nothing too extensive or costly, but they still went above and beyond taking care of me. Their labor and retail prices were below what I was expecting to pay, and for the service I received on such short notice, I really couldn’t be happier with the whole experience. Looking for other things I need for the bike just so I have a reason to shop with them again soon! Highly recommend!!!

Very friendly and prompt customer service and a military discount! They answered the phone an hour before they were even officially open and made sure they had what I needed in stock. I would definitely give them a go for maintenance as well.

These guys are some of the best bike mechanics in town. If you need a bike serviced or maintained, you can’t go wrong here. I personally took a bike to the Trek store for service. Trek told me it was going to take over $ 200 to fix. Brought it to Zumwalt’s, 15 minutes and $ 20 later my bike rides perfect again. I won’t ever go any where else for service. Also, they offer free adjustments if you buy a bike from them. So there’s that.
They offer a good selection of bikes and accessories. One thing I noticed is that they don’t really have a sales staff here. So If you want some one to «sell» you a bike, it probably won’t happen here. They are more than happy to let you test ride any bike in the shop, and if they don’t have what you want on the floor, they will get it for you. I bought an «XL» model Rockhopper recently. They actually held on to it for a few weeks until I got around to coming in to test ride it. When I came in to try it, there was definitely «no pressure» to buy, even though it was a special order. The price they sold it for was fair, I tried to haggle but they wouldn’t budge. I can respect that.
I am not very active in the local biking scene, but I do appreciate that these guys support local rides and such. It’s a good way to give back and keep people interested in biking.
Overall, this shop has earned my business, now and in the future. I will go here for all my needs, and steer clear of the «big box store» Trek dealer down the hill.

Great place, I am travelling to Alaska for the military and was visiting San Diego when I discovered I had lost my front skewer to my bike. The person I saw at here made up a new one from some spare parts quickly saving me time and money. If I were a resident I would make this my go to bike shop, thank you for getting me back on my bike!

Just had the crew at Zumwalt’s work on my Mavic rear wheel and done fast and got back on the road. The new mechanics they have there great.

After being ignored at the trek store on Fletcher I stumbled into this store. The second I walked the door I was greeted by a guy who was cool, down to earth, and very helpful.

They fixed my kid’s stroller tires for free! Turns out I only needed air, but great service! I’ve been here a few times and they are always helpful.

I had a great experience at Zumwalt’s. Went in to purchase a bike for my first triathlon (because riding a beach cruiser for 12 miles is generally frowned upon in competition). I mentioned that I was interested in a road bike and the guy helping me (I wish I remembered his name!) asked me for my budget. Of course my budget was about $ 150 shy of their entry level road bike, but he still walked me through the options, and didn’t even balk when I pointed out the less expensive flat bar bikes and asked if they would work. He set me up with a test ride and I walked out with a new bike and a free water bottle. You also get free maintenance for the life of the bike. I never felt pressured to buy and was pleased that he wasn’t hovering over me while I test-​rode. I will definitely be back!

Very laid back shop so dont walk in with your head up your ass. Great shop and owner. Quick tune ups and great service. I got a norco range 7.1 because they are the only shop that sells them. Quality inventory.

Not sure I’m going back again but I do send people there. I went in one day to see if they had a Mavic spoke for my husband’s wheel. They were kind enough to look and even called around to see if their BFF stores had it. I was told one did and that it would be in within a week (they even measured it to double check. A week later, my husband goes and the spoke is 3 inches too short (not sure how you mess up that bad but we gave them another shot). He was told they needed the spokes anyways so they’d order some and in less that 2 weeks they’d be in. Long story short, we were there 5 times and the spokes weren’t even ordered. Luckily, Performance Bicycle down the street ordered them for us without charging up front and even let us borrow a rear wheel for 2 weeks (without extra cost) until the spokes for my husband’s bike came in.
I’m just disappointed that Zumwalts wasted so much of my time, other than that, they were very nice when I was there (not all bike shops take kindly to women –they think we don’t know anything– but here I was treated really well.

I just got my bike back yesterday afternoon with some spokes replaced and back wheel straightened. Out the door it was about $ 25. Throughout the years they have worked on my bike that was left by a former roommate. They worked on my brakes, replaced the rear cluster, and spent a lot of time I needed to try out different seats before I decided to have one special ordered. Years ago Todd, the owner, actually referred me to a used bike shop for a rear wheel with a stronger rim after the first one bent on me at Sunset Cliffs. Last year I bought a mount or bracket for an old Kryptonite lock here.
Throughout the years I have been satisfied at Zumwalt’s. If they didn’t fix something in a half hour or less, they fixed it and called me to pick it up when they said it would be ready. Living less than a mile away I have no reason to take my bike anywhere else knowing their prices are competitive. Want more specifics? Ask away!
