What a wonderful experience! Dr Thomas did such a thorough eye exam and is so caring! His staff, Judi and Sheila, spent time helping me find a beUtiful, light weight frame. They explained the differences in lens types and materials and I opted for the new custom design progressive lenses. Vision and comfort are outstanding! I highly recommend this professional, caring and quality optometry office! I’ll definitely be returning!

This is a boutique operation and they cater to you personally while taking your eye health seriously. It is not a big-​box store or a drive-​through. In my experience there are always additional fees for contact wearers and if you have good insurance, as I have, you will be covered. I wear both frames and lens.
Dr. Thomas & his staff are reluctant, yes, to give you your prescription so you can take it to a discount site or center to get your glasses or contacts. But the service is very personal in a way we’re hardly accustomed to anymore in medical offices. I wish I had a personal physician who was so conscientious. They do remember your name, they do not treat you as a number. I have received nothing less than gracious, knowledgable attention here.
The doctor is impressive, and his assistant, Judy, can fit frames to faces better than any other personnel I’ve encountered in any optometry office in 25 years of getting frames. While I’ve been looking over a dozen frames she just zeroes in on the right one for my face and has called the vendor for me, taking the extra time to see if they have other colors I might like. She’s crisp, personable and awesome. If I moved I know I wouldn’t get the service I’ve received here. I would definitely miss them.

Went back for to order contacts, and they wouldn’t give me my prescription without a «sitting fee!» An extra $ 100 just so dr Thomas can take a look in my eyes?! And by the way, no insurances will pay for it bc they know it’s a rip off !
Just went to Costco and sat thru another contact lens exams with dr slikker.

Dr. Thomas himself is a nice man. But the office itself is a complete scam. All I wanted was a contact lens prescription, and they charged me $ 125 for the «fitting» (like I haven’t been wearing contacts for almost 10 years) before I could obtain ONLY A PIECE OF PAPER WITH MY PRESCRIPTION ON IT. Plus, all that the «fitting» consists of is giving you a pair of lenses and looking at them a couple days later. They charged my insurance fully as if I had ordered lenses from them when I didn’t.
On top of that, they gave me a prescription for glasses (NOT lenses), and it wasn’t even my correct prescription and was WAY too strong.

This is the place to go for your eye exams. Dr Thomas was on vacation when I went in so I had the pleasure of working with Dr Divine. She certainly lives up to her name!!! Judy is awesome, sincere, delightful and she trully cares for each of their patients needs. She is so proud to be a part of his staff and she really makes his office my reason I would refer to others.

I recently had my glasses repaired here and I must say it was a delightful experience. Judy was very diligent in tracking down a new pair of side pieces that had to come from Austria. It turned out that she got an upgraded design for the same price as the old ones and now my glasses are better than new.
Judy was great and kept me informed all along the way. Highly recommended.

VERY FRUSTRATING EXPERIENCE!
Although I liked Dr. Thomas himself, who was very kind and professional during my exam, I have to give 1 star due to my frustrating experience with his reception staff who run the entire process of glasses and contact ordering.
Judy rushed me as though I was inconveniencing her; and she was also sarcastic when I asked about frame options, and what specifically my insurance coverage offered.
Later, it got worse. After a month of waiting (missed phone calls, and no return calls), all while they already had my money, I am finally told they have a sample set of contacts ready for me to come pick up. I was told I should wear them for a week before I place a large year-​supply order, in case something went wrong. So I just followed their directions, and said okay. I verified the brand of contacts over the phone, which is the same brand I have been wearing for 2 years now. Sheila ensured me they had my supply waiting and all I had to do was come and pick them up.
However, when I arrived to pick up my 1-​week sample supply, it was a completely different brand and I was told I HAD to schedule a fitting appointment for a fee of about $ 100. Judy argued with me about the brand saying I HAD to have the new brand because the doctor said so, even though I’d just spoken to another clerk (Sheila) on the phone the day before who verified my preferred brand.
WHAT THE HECK!!! Why is no one on the same page here??? And WHY do I need a «fitting» for the EXACT same pair and EXACT same prescription contacts that I’ve had for the last 2 years!!! When I asked that, she said «No, that’s not your old prescription. It changed. Look, it’s written right here. You need a fitting.» Well, I think I know my own prescription since it’s on the cover of every single contact I open every day! I could not believe this woman was trying to convince me that my prescription was different for the last two years!!!
Well, regardless of that rediculous argument, they didn’t ever say there would be an additional fee until I was «stuck» having to pay it, and «stuck» with a brand I didn’t even want! I was so frustrated and upset that I asked for a reimbursement of my money, which they’d been holding for a month, and a copy of my prescription so I could go elsewhere.
Here’s the cherry on top: Judy refused to give me my contacts prescription. Even though I paid for an exam and went through an entire exam, she would only give me my glasses prescription and specifically wrote on the paper «GLASSES Rx ONLY». The only way I could get my contacts Rx through them would be to pay the triple figure «fitting» fee.
REDICULOUS!!!

PLEASE — GO ELSEWHERE!!! I wasted an ENTIRE month of my life and got nothing out of it but a big headache.

I absolutely loe Dr. Thomas. I have had bad experiences with optometrists in the past and was delighted when I moved here and found this place. Dr. Thomas explains everything he does so that you understand what’s going on and is always interested in hearing feedback.
The only reason I wouldn’t give them 5 stars is because there usually is some sticker shock with them. Since I only go every 6 – 12 months, I always forget to ask what my other options are for contacts, etc. Either way, the service you get here is totally worth a little extra money for me because my eyes are so bad and Dr. Thomas understands how frustrating it can be when you don’t have the right lenses. If you ask upfront about costs, there’s no reason why you should come away feeling scammed. I’ve recommended them to all of my visually challenged friends and have only heard positive feedback.

This place is a rip off! They charge $ 110 for a contact exam then a seperate «fitting» charge of $ 110 and tell you that you have to come back multiple times (SO INCONVENIENT). Then try to pressure you to buy a years worth of contacts. I have been wearing glasses and contacts for 18 years … and have NEVER heard of a seperate fitting fee. They wouldn’t give me the contact prescription without paying the fitting charge. So I walked out with the glasses rx only that I had just gotten 6 months earlier. On top of that it took me an hour and fourty-​five minutes to get through all that.
I went to Costco that afternoon, and got an eye rx, contact rx and 6 months of contacts for $ 75… and was in and out within a half hour. NOTE: The Costco Dr. and Dr. Thomas both came out with the same results on my prescription.
The service was perfectly fine (besides the long delay from my scheduled appt) … but the cost is just insane.

I actually enjoy getting my yearly eye exam and picking out new frames because Dr. Thomas and Judy and the other staff there are so friendly and sweet. They have a great selection of frames and give personalized attention that is hard to find these days.
if you are looking for a great eye doctor and prefer the kind of service where they remember your name and are happy to see you upon each visit– this is the place for you! I journey down to Mission Valley just to go here and I live up in the Del Mar area!

HORRIBLE!!! THESE PEOPLE ARE A SCAM!!! I went in and tried to use my VSP insurance and they still tried to up sell me by telling me they would not give me a perscription for contacts unless I paid $ 95 for a «fitting fee». EXCUUUUSE ME??? I have been wearing contacts for 6 plus years and have been to 10 different eye doctors and never have I been told I have to pay for the doctors «time» to fit me!!! WHAT A SCAM!!! I can fit my own contacts thank you. All I wanted was my exam and prescription. I AM REPORTING THEM TO THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU AND TO MY INSURANCE! WHAT A SCAM!

he’s a cool optometrist. i’ve been going there for 5 years. only because i used to work in mission valley and kept going there after i no longer worked in that area.
one time my left eye got inflamed and i had to go in asap, it was no problem they were able to accommodate. the doc gave me this solution no charge and sent me on my way.
the first time i got contacts everyone in the office was really nice in helping me get used to them. they didn’t make me feel dumb or anything because i was such a scared-​y cat.
they’re always willing to work with you, answer questions, assist with anything basically.
i’ve gone there with and without insurance. it’s nice to know i get the same special treatment regardless of whether or not i’m covered.

Dr. Thomas and his staff (Tanya and Judy) are simply great people. I trust them, as they’ve been working together for decades. I like them, as they’re all extremely personable. Their office is very modern and clean, and Dr. Thomas is extremely intelligent and has good chair-​side manners. He’s very charismatic.
I highly recommend this team…
