Veterinary Imaging Center of San Diego – VICSD

When we were referred here last year because of our elderly kitty having a GI problem, we were a little nervous that it was going to cost way more than we could handle. Seeing a specialist for a human usually means it is going to cost a lot, but happily this place is quite affordable.
We were sent to Dr. Fincham-​Gray by our vet when there was nothing more a regular vet could do, but our kitty was quite obviously not done living. It was a great thing to have this option.
Dr. Fincham-​Gray and her team are really excellent. They were super nice and explained everything. They took such good care of her at VICSD that she actually seemed to like going there. It really seemed to brighten her day to go to this vet which was great because in what ended up being her final two weeks, we went quite frequently to see them. Tests were done and medicines were taken. She lived a long life (19+ years) and since we had brought her here, we knew that we had all done everything possible to keep her happy, comfortable, and pain free until the end.
When she was ready to go, we all recognized it at the same time. We had our suspicions by her suddenly refusing her medicine, and they confirmed it after an quick exam. We had her put to sleep at home, but, looking back, we really should have done it here. She really liked the people at this place. They knew her only a few weeks, but thoughtfully sent the nicest card.
If we have a need for a pet vet specialist again, we will definitely go here. They are wonderful.
They are located across from Zion Market/​Kearny Mesa Bowl in a strip mall just east of Carl’s Jr. on Clairemont Mesa. You will have to do a U-​turn at Convoy to get to the entrance if you are coming from the west.
The parking lot can get full, but there is also street parking on Clairemont Mesa. There might be parking in the back.
The waiting area is a good size and has about 6 chairs and a tv.

Thorough attention. Great staff. VERY concerned with my dog’s well being. Helped to ensure only necessary testing done, no more. Very conscientious, caring, & friendly staff!

We had our 9 yr old cat after being diagnosed with hyperthyroid condition. The staff and vets were very attentive, up front with the options and costs and followed through with updates and status throughout the process. Very professional but also sensitive to how much he means to us.

I’ve been dealing with a myriad of health issues with one of our dogs over the course of the past year and one of the final steps before an upcoming surgery was to have a CT Scan performed. Dr. Wallack was kind, compassionate, and held the dog’s health above all else. His entire staff is professional and made it extremely easy for me to get the CT scan accomplished. Following the scan Dr. Wallack made time to go over the results and answer any and all questions that I had. I highly recommend the Veterinary Imaging Center of San Diego for all of your imaging and veterinary needs. Should the need arise in the future I know that I can entrust my family members to their care.

My dog, George, was referred to this place after several sets of regular x-​rays did not show what was going on with his knee. So the doctor decided the next best step would be to get an MRI.
I went into VICSD for the initial consult and I have to say, the doctors were very nice and very thorough. She explained everything to me and what would be happening the day of the MRI. We scheduled the MRI within a couple of days and that day went exactly as planned. What really impressed me was when I went back in to pick up George, they had a CD ready of the MRI and the radiologist was there waiting for me at 6:30 pm! George had just returned from the MRI and the radiologist, spent a great deal of time showing me the images and explaining everything and answering all of my questions. He did not seem rushed and really made sure I understood everything.
That kind of care and service are hard to find and I am so happy that I was referred here.

Last August my 7 year old golden retriever, Cara, was diagnosed with hermangiosarcoma. She received every possible piece of treatment and care to fight while also maintaining a good quality of life. In November she passed away and we were all heartbroken but I remember all the doctors and offices that helped her along the way and treated her with the utmost kindness.
We were referred here by our vet a couple days following the diagnosis. VCA made the diagnosis and then x-​rays from the follow-​up vet appointment showed no obvious spread, so an ultrasound from VIC was ordered. The first scan gave us a better look at the baseball sized tumor on her spleen and it also picked up a spot on her liver. The thing is, goldens do get harmless liver spots at around 7 years of age so the real question here is whether or not the spot was a result of the tumor or if it was something independent on its own. A second scan was done called a contrast where they used color to determine if the spot was a result of the tumor. While not 100% sure, the second scan revealed with good certainty that the spot was not related to the tumor, so that’s when we elected to have the splenectomy. Unfortunately it was determined that the original diagnosis was correct but going through with the scans was well worth it.
The staff here are friendly, professional, and encouraging. We miss Cara everyday but we remember the kindness that was always showed to her by the staff and doctors of every place she went. Thanks.

Months ago, my cat was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. My regular vet informed me of my options (I-​131 therapy at VICSD was highly recommended) and at the time, I was unemployed so I decided to go with the cheaper option of giving my cat a pill twice a day. It didn’t take long after researching the I-​131 therapy would be quick and healthier option for my girl in the long run. The staff at VICSD are so helpful, very patient with me asking dozens of questions due to my nervousness of dropping my girl off for days, they responded very quickly to all of my emails, had my baby girl’s best interest at heart (she had tummy problems and had to postpone therapy a couple of times), gave me a more natural alternative to meds upon my request, and called me daily to tell me how my cat was doing. I see now first hand why this veterinary and staff came so highly recommended. They even sacrificed their day off to accommodate my work schedule to drop my cat off a day early for therapy. Hopefully they don’t mind that I spilled the beans about the day early thing but it helped me out tremendously and I trust them completely!!!

My cat was diagnosed with hyperthyroid. I tried the medication, but I had to pill her twice a day. Besides the inconvenience, I would find the pills scattered through the house, as she spit them out after I gave them to her. I decided to go with the radioactive iodine treatment with VICSD.
I was very pleased with the communication and professionalism of the staff. I had all my questions answered. One of the staff calls at the end of each day to give you an update on how your cat is doing. I even received a couple of calls from the vet, Dr. Garcia, who was very easy to talk to and responsive to my questions and concerns. As one of the previous reviewers stated, they also have a webcam that you can use to watch your kitty during the week that she is at the facility.
Although it was a costly procedure, I found that it would be less expensive over time compared to the pills and bloodwork. The procedure has a 98% success rate. Hoping that Sniffer is in that 98%!

One of my cats was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, and we found out that he had a reaction to the medication (tapezole) that they usually give cats for this conidition. Since he is an older cat, surgery was not a good option, so the only alternative was the radio-​iodine (I-​131) treatment. VICSD was referred to me by Cheshire Cat Clinic as they send alot of patient there for this type of treatment (and also ultra-​sound).
The procedure required me to drop off my cat on a Monday and he would stay there until Friday (if he only had the small dose). They have a webcam set up where you can check up on your cat during their business hours (one thing, it may not work through the firewall at work). Or you can view your cat from the lobby. They also give you daily updates on your cat. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
They also make sure they go over the precaution for when you bring your cat home and remind you when the next checkup should be.
Anyway, it was a good experience for me so if you have any concerns about the radio-​iodine therapy, if you take your cat here, you’ll be in good hands.

Two of my dogs, on two separate occasions, were referred here for imaging. Both times were very good experiences. The staff was professional and friendly, and the pricing was very reasonable for the excellent services they provide. Definitely the place to go.

An amazing place to get the professional expertise your animals deserve! I’d take my animals here if I ever needed any kind of Imaging done. They have the tools, and they have the talent!

Wow! My vet sent me to the Imaging Center to diagnose a problem with my dog. I had no idea they were there but very glad I found them. They seem to be the experts in figuring out tough cases. My dog is better now because they found a small tumor in his stomach and then sent the images to my vet who removed it.

I am happy to review this facility, although I have not had any use of them in a couple years. A few years back, I worked for a vet in the community who had his brother’s dog in for repeated leg issues. They could not figure out the issue with the limited imaging available in most regular vet hospitals, and asked that I drive the sweet dog down to these guys.
They were very nice when I took him in, and offered to show me around the whole facility, as I am a vet tech. I was so impressed with the machines they have here!!! It is so nice to see that there is an option for advanced imaging in veterinary medicine in San Diego county!
There was a happy ending for the dog I had taken there, too. They diagnosed his problem, and sent him to a surgeon for a leg amputation. He is now (or was at the time of recovery, I have not seen him in a couple years) a very happy three-​legged dog!

Excellent, state of the art facility. They offer excellent services, with knowledgeable doctors and staff. Dr Wallack is awesome, he very quickly diagnosed my kitty with IBD! If you need some specialty scans get a referral to them, I trust all of them with my animals!
