If you are trapped in the Gaslamp District, and you want to watch a national sporting event, you could do alot(alot!) worse then Trophy’s. In fact, when I find myself in the circumstance described above, I typically will retreat to Trophy’s almost every similar establishment in the Gaslamp(and there are soooooo many of those– the Gaslamp District is FILLED with them). They serve a decent variety of beer that is always cold. The menu is bland and flavorless, typical American Sports Bar menu– fried stuff, tasteless burgers. The lines of sight in the bar area to the televisions are uniformly decent, and the bar staff has some clue as to what events are occuring on a given night(not a factor to take for granted when trying to watch an out of area sporting event!)

I was running around the Ballpark District trying to find a decent restaurant where I could hang out and watch the Lakers play the Suns for Game 1! I gave Trophy’s a shot. Right next to PETCO Park, I bet this place is nuts when the Padres are at home. I counted at least a dozen flat screen TV’s all over the restaurant and I was able to find booth seating right in front of the biggest tv in the house. After all it was Sunday around 1pm. I went with the appetizer sampler, loaded with fries, wings, chicken strips, chips/salsa and potato wedges. Pretty good stuff. The game on the other hand was a complete letdown. The Lakers lost and I had to endure a battle with heartburn from all the fried food. Next game, next time, I’m bringing TUMS.
