Makes sure you look good and are happy with the job he’s done! Today was my first time with Tony and it’s like he knew what I wanted! He knew what looked good on me!!! He even was helpful with my kids and husband. Didn’t mind them there and was very sweet and kind. Also Very knowledgable and a great person. He loves to help the environment/​world and spread nothing but positive energy. All about happiness and a very life changing individual! Very friendly. I’m soo happy with the results and am glad I chose him, because to be honest. He’s the only person who ever got my hair right after regretting ever dying my virgin hair. TONY KNOWS WHAT HE’S DOING. SERIIIIIOUSLYYYYY… He really takes the time to listen and I loved that we learned a lot from him. MY HUSBAND EVEN LIKED HIM TOO CAUSE HE WAS A VERY EASY TO TALK TO, FUN, COOL, GREAT PERSON TO TALK TO. I WISH HIM NOTHING BUT THE BEST ALWAYS! THANKS SO MUCH TONY FOR EVERYTHING

I went to Tony to get a balayage. It took us two appointments to do the base color and then the highlights but was worth the wait upon his suggestion. He was worried about the color turning too orange, from my previous hair coloring. My hair looks and feels sooo much better! I haven’t had anytime to get my hair done and have been very happy with the results and have had many compliments. Definitely plan on being there for a couple of hours at least if you are doing this kind of treatment. Tony is very passionate about his work.

Tony has been my go to stylist since I moved to LJ from Boston, about 1 ½ years ago, and I haven’t left him since! He listens to what I want and offers suggestions on what he feels will look best, at my request. Thus far, he hasn’t led me astray:-) My hair looks great — highly recommend my main man Tony!

How he gets my hair looking so flawless is STILL a miracle. His ability to cut, color, balayage and style it honestly incredible. I have followed him since day one and I love being one his regular loyal clients. BEYOND his skills and talents, is his beautiful personality. He truly cares about you and your hair, and the ultimate goal you wish to receive. He has such a beautiful soul and passion for his career.

I’ve been going to tony for a year now, started with a groupon but stayed with him because I LOVE my cuts and colors, and he is totally fairly priced. I recommend Tony all the time, I trust him with my hair completely! I have dry curly hair, which is tricky for me to keep up with, but he does a great job. I’ve moved downtown from north SD and keep coming to tony because I can’t leave!

I feel bad doing this, but I have to let you all know to STAY AWAY from Tony by Tony salon!
I purchased a Groupon for a cut and balayage from Tony. I should say, that I guess I was setting myself up for failure but he had good Unilocal reviews (I don’t know how!). It’s a gamble going and buying a groupon for your hair, but I don’t usually spend a lot of money pampering myself. I’m a new mama and haven’t gotten my hair done since before I was pregnant with my now 1 year old! So this was super exciting for me!
My appointment with Tony was on a Saturday morning. We had spoken on the phone and he told me to bring a picture of what I wanted done! I’m thinking «sweet! This guy must know what he’s doing!»
I show him the pic and he starts «balayage-​ing» my hair. Now– I’m NOT a colorist, so I didn’t say anything when he slathered on the bleach from 3 inches under my roots all the way down to the ends of my hair. The WHOLE THING. Needless to say, after the wash was done I was nearly in tears. He kept saying wait until the blow dry, but I’m not an idiot. He dried it and I expressed my concern telling him that I was sorry but that I really didn’t like it. I told him I wanted balayage! Not my whole head to bleached. It wasn’t even a pretty blonde. It was straight up orange yellow. I felt so bad! I’ve never asked someone to redo my hair before but I just had to. And when I did– he said, «NO, not today. It’ll look bad if I do it today. You just have to get used to it. You can come in another time if you really want it fixed.» I was mortified. I didn’t even let him cut it. He still made me PAY HIM. The second I walked out I was in tears. I’ve never cried about my hair before but I was so upset about all of it. My hair felt like straw, looked yellow and I didn’t think I could afford to get it fixed. Luckily, I found a hair angel from heaven who fixed it the next day. She worked miracles and thankfully didn’t charge me an arm and a leg.
Listen to me ladies (and gents) PLEASE do yourself a favor and do NOT go to Tony for a color. I’ve never been so upset about my hair and the fact that he never texted me like he said he was going to to make sure I liked it, made it even worse.

Do not go here. I also had the worst experience ever! I went in with the balayage and cut groupon and wanted it a little lighter around my face and some more layers to frame my face. I asked him not to touch the length. Immediately he started hacking into my hair in what appeared to be a random fashion with no structure whatsoever. I saw massive amounts of my hair fall to the floor. Next he started in on the color. I said I do not want to go too light as my hair will lighten naturally when the summer comes and I start surfing again. I also told him I do not want thick streaks but a very natural looking blend. He straight up told me that despite what I said he was going to do the exact opposite because he felt it would look better. This was already after he started painting my hair with the coloring stuff.
I asked him why he is doing exactly what I didn’t want and he gave some response I can’t even remember. By then I felt I was trapped.
When he washed the color out it looked muddy in the front. He warned me it would before he rinsed it out. I told him I was attending a wedding at the weekend and that was the reason I came in at all. He said if I was concerned about that I should have warned him beforehand! I’m sorry, aren’t you supposed to leave the salon with hair you like?!? When I dared ask him how long it would take until the toner wore off and I could feel better about the color he snapped at me and said «We’re not even having this conversation!» He gave me so much attitude and was so aggressive I turned red and felt completely unable to speak any more about anything I wasn’t happy with. Not to mention every time he brushed my hair he would rip it from top to bottom instead of working his way up from the bottom to avoid ripping it. My hair was just flying everywhere. He would insist I keep my head straight when I couldn’t help but give in due to the pain to my scalp!
When I got home my hair looked stringy and fried. The back color was fine but the front looked like muddy water. Not to mention there are terrible roots and I went in a few days ago. I am too scared to go back and ask for him to fix anything. The worst experience ever.
I seriously hate giving bad reviews but I can’t shake what an awful experience I had on so many levels.

Tony has been doing my hair for 7 months and i originally got a full head of extentions. My hair was above my shoulders and the extentions went past my shoulder blades. He did an amazing job blending them in so you couldnt tell i had short hair.
I have had color done for months also with him. Its always turned out perfect and he has kept my hair healthy in the process.

Lots of people comment on my hair style and ask where I get it done. Tony has amazing skills and is always honest with his clients.

Tony is by far the best hair dresser I’ve ever had and I’ve had many, some of which were great, but I never truly felt like I found «the one.» Tony is «the one» ladies and gentlemen. Not only does he do amazing work, but he pays attention to you and listens attentively.
I met Tony having purchased a Groupon, actually, and had no expectations as Groupon customers are usually treated as one-​time-​only customers. Not Tony. He truly made me feel special from day one and I left the salon with a fun, bouncy, blonde bob. Fast forward to a year later and I’m still trusting Tony with my locks.
Tony is as honest as he is charismatic. He will listen, but give you his input as well. Trust him, he has impeccable taste and you will leave his salon feeling like a movie star.

Run, don’t walk to Tony! He is literally a hair god. I wouldn’t let anyone else touch my hair after seeing what he can do with those magical hands. The first time I went to Tony I had never colored my hair, but he assured me not to worry! He recommended a Brazilian blow out and boy did I need it! I’ve gotten a total of three Brazilian blowouts and I’m hooked! I have crazy curly hair (see picture below) and it makes it so much more manageable. I hardly have to put any effort into styling with the Brazilian. I’ve seen him work on a variety of clients hair types and it always comes out looking fabulous! Plus he is so entertaining and welcoming you would think you’ve been friends for years. If I could I’d give him 10 stars :) :) :)

I came in the first time for a Groupon I purchased, and although I wasn’t able to get what I originally expected, Tony took great care of me and I ended up leaving with hair I loved!
When I returned for the color touch up, I ended up getting a mini foil and it looked great! I was very happy with the color and am happy to be a loyal customer.
Tony really does put his heart and soul into every client he works with and it shows. He’s happy to adjust things to make it just right for the person and cares deeply about what he does.

Tony is A HAIR LIFE SAVER! Took my hair from dull and damaged, to stunning and healthy. I’m glad to have found an amazing hairstylist that I can actually commit to. He is very honest and will not overcharge you, it’s so refreshing to find a hairstylist that cares! 5 stars.

Tony is amazing.
I have Asian hair so getting that beautiful non-​brassy blonde is super difficult. Well Tony is the person to go to. He not only removed the disatrous orange from my hair but also did a fantastic ash blonde balayage ombré job on the same day. I have random people ask me for my hair stylist all the time! Its been a month and half since i got my hair done, and the color is still beatiful.

Tony is amazing!!! I cannot believe how wonderful and beautiful I feel when I leave! I had a bad experience with black hair color and tony took his time and worked with me so now I can actually run my hands through my hair again! Brazilian bow out was a life saver! My hair is always on point when I see Tony! I recommend Tony to everyone I know and am so thankful I found him! Never going to see another stylist again!

Tony is amazing. I came to him in October 2015 looking for an ombré style. My hair is naturally very dark and the previous stylist who worked on my hair had put red tones into my dark hair. Tony mentioned that it would kind of difficult to get the red out and achieve the lightness that I wanted. But he worked on my hair for a few hours, and the end result was something that I absolutely loved (his work shown in my profile picture). He was honest with me from the start about what the process and end results may be, saying he’d rather under-​promise and over-​deliver, than promise great results in beginning only to have the customer unsatisfied the with the end results. He did an amazing job, and I’ll be going back for sure.

I’ve never met anyone else with such a natural talent and passion for hair. Tony is a gifted stylist! There is nothing he can’t do — cuts, color, style, total transformations, difficult/​problem hair, etc. He is a MASTER. Tony is also an amazing person, full of positivity, energy, fun, and inspiration. I’ve never had to wait too long for an appointment (even though he is in high demand, he works very hard and makes himself available for extended hours and on weekends), his products are top quality, the salon is in a great location, and his pricing is reasonable. I trust him completely with my hair, and recently went through a total transformation with him — going from very long, naturally «dirty blonde» hair without much style to a modern, edgy pixie cut with an amazing color makeover to ash blonde with platinum highlights. I’ve never felt better about my hair! Having the right style that matches and reflects who you are on the inside is a real confidence booster. Tony worked on it for over 4 HOURS until he was satisfied that it was exactly right! Who does that?!! He also styles my husband’s difficult hair, as well as our 10-​yr-​old son’s. We couldn’t be happier! I would recommend him to anyone and everyone!

A friend recommended Tony By Tony and I was not disappointed. I took my teenage son to get his hair colored and cut. The color came out a rich, natural hue that complimented my son’s coloring. Then we came back to get my son’s hair cut. My son had wanted to grow his hair long, but it was at that awkward length and not very flattering. Tony explained this all to my son and my son opted to have Tony clean him up. Wow! My son still had some length and style and his hair looked good after he washed it last night. Tony is very gifted and kind, as well as very funny! His salon is warm and inviting and easy to find in La Jolla. Parking is not a problem. Best of all, Tony listens to his clients’ requests! I can’t say enough positive things about Tony By Tony. You must make an appointment and see for yourself!

He is a GENIUS!!! My hair was super jacked and over processed and he did an amazing beigie blond color correction and Brazilian Blowout. I am never letting anyone else cut my hair again. Plus he is hilarious, my stomach hurt I was laughing so much. Run don’t walk.

Love love love this place! The shop is in a perfect location and the space is set up beautifully! Tony is so good at what he does and he makes it fun! Great work. Great company. Fabulous results.
