Time Traveller Clockworks

The owner of the shop drove to my house, back in January 2012, and picked up a Seth Thomas Mantle Clock. I was thinking wow this is great service. Also, he said that he was a Naval Flight Officer during the 1970’s. He instantly had credibility in my mind. Well, it has been almost 3 years and my clock has not been fixed yet. My repair ticket number is #3831. I call him about every 6 months and when he answers the phone he always says that he is too busy to talk and that he will call back. He has never called back. I tried calling him this morning and my number must be blocked because it did not go through. I called with my wife’s phone and it went to his voice mail. This has truly been an extremely frustrating experience and I hate to tube the guy but he is not trustworthy nor professional. The Seth Thomas Mantle clock is near and dear to our hearts and part of our family history. At this point I am not sure if I will ever get it back. Don’t go to this shop. He is a crook!

Dropped off a tall clock for repair /​cleaning in February of 2012. Have been BEGGING and PLEADING to get it BACK ever since but they have thus far REFUSED to do so. NOT very happy at this point… not at all. We’re not going into year #3.

UGH! I wish I could give 0 stars. Customer service is horrible! I approached the elderly gentleman working there and politely asked if he could fix my Pottery Barn table clock, which has a shattered face. I was trying to get it fixed because I’ve used it in my private practice since I opened it; it has some sentimental value. Anyway, he looked at me and my clock with disdain and said, «This was made in China. I won’t touch it.». I thought he could have been much more polite, I really didn’t feel I deserved such treatment. As I left, he called out «You’re welcome!». Wow.

My experience was nothing like the two other posters.
I needed a place to have my mechanical clock repaired and couldn’t find anyone else in San Diego who was willing (they all work on electronic clocks now). I read the reviews and decided to try Time Travellers. I took my clock in and met the owner, who was upfront and honest about everything, including the fact that he would be on a vacation for a few weeks. My clock was done on time and even spotlessly cleaned.
A few weeks after I took the clock home, it had an unrelated problem and I took it back. The owner fixed it at no charge.

I took three antique clocks in for clearing and a ‘tune-​up’ (they had been working until shortly after a recent move). I was assured they could be tended to so I paid for a very pricey service. Long story short: the repairs lasted between six montha and one year — and of course, no warranty.
If someone knows of a reputable clock repair shop, I’d really appreciate having the name.

I am not sure why Aaron’s review persists as the only review being shown. You can find more representative reviews among the ones not being shown. I took my cuckoo clock there last year and had a wonderful experience. The clock is still going strong. Trust this place, really.

I had a very good experience at this shop. I got my clock repaired in the time frame I was given. Not a long wait at all. The price seemed reasonable given the excellent work done on my clock. I was also able to learn quite a bit just talking to the owner. In many ways this is an «old time» business and when it is busy service can be a little slow. I found it charming plus it is nice to have my clock back and working again!

Well, what can I say:
Did my clock get fixed? Yes.
Was the price fair? Yes.
Did I prepay for the repair? Regrettably, yes.
Did it take almost 2 FULL YEARS??? Yes.
Was I frustrated, frazzled, and flummoxed as to why it took so long to repair my broken clock? Yes.
Were the timelines regarding the repair met? No.
Was there communication provided by the owner as to what the situation was? No.
Was the owner short and/​or rude with me on the phone, sometimes bordering on aggressive? Yes.
Would I ever go back or tell someone else to go there? No.
Do I feel bad about writing this in a review? Yes (and no).
I do not wish any ill will on this business nor the owner, I just want others to know about my experience.
