I decided to go back in and see if there was anyone willing to help fix my hair. The owner Hayley graciously offered to help me and it turned out fantastic. She is so considerate with every detail and very knowledgeable when it comes to hair and skin. Hayley turned a stressful embarrassing experience into a positive one and I will definitely be going back to see her in the future.

I went to the salon twice. I had my hair done with David Martinez. The first time I had highlights. I was pretty happy with them. The second time I bought a groupon that didn’t say what stylist it was for and nothing was mentioned about that groupon being only for first time customers. I called him to make an appointment and he said he couldn’t take it. Then he finally said he would do my highlights but asked me to return the groupon and he’d honor the price. I didn’t like that but I accepted. The groupon was for full highlights but I told him he could just do partial highlights. He didn’t even do the roots of the highlights he had done last time! While I was waiting for them to be ready I had to call him (he left me by myself waiting) and ask him if he could do at least the same layers he had done last time. He did but they turned out super brassy. The highlights were horrible this time. I asked him to do them the same way he had done them last time (super thing strings of hair) but he did them in a rush, super wide. And he didn’t even do them from the root but almost half an inch from it! He convinced me to have the Brazilian blowout. Not only was my hair as curly as before but it only lasted 4 weeks! I used sulfate free shampoo and conditioner and tried not to wash my hair more than twice a week. I called him to ask why that happened and he blamed it on the shampoo and clearly said he couldn’t do anything about it. To make things worse, he completely burned my hair in the front! It was a horrible experience! And a waste of money! I decided to give the Brazilian blowout another try (at a different salon, of course!) and it was done very differently. My natural curly hair looks just wavy now and I can really see a difference.
Obviously I can’t rely talk about the salon itself because David Martinez was the only one that did my hair. The other stylists might be good.

After moving to San Diego from New England I was nervous about getting my hair cut by someone new. Anywho, I found David and he was super sweet and knowledgable. I wanted a lil bit of a change, going from a few highlights to a partial that’s pretty stellarly blonde. He took me there, for real. The color and cut looked great. So, six months later and I’m still going to see David. So please go ahead and see David.

After months of searching for a stylist that could give me the blonde that I wanted I FINALLY found David! Not only did he give me the BEST highlight and cut out of any stylist I have been to in San Diego, he was also very accommodating and worked around my schedule. I work 9 – 5 monday-​friday and he came in on a sunday night just to do my hair (pretty awesome if you ask me). If you are in need of a great stylist you HAVE to go see David… hes a rockstar!

My hair is naturally fine and tangles easily. It was also many months overdue for a cut. Karen did a wonderful job of listening and making suggestions on how to manage my hair better on a daily basis, while cutting off the ratty ends and giving me subtle layers. Walked out with smooth hair that looked twice as thick. Highly recommended if you need some hair rehab. I also learned through our conversation that she does balayage, which results in natural looking highlights and is so much gentler on fine hair like mine, since the chemical treatment is applied to less of your hair overall. I’ll definitely be back. Oh — and they also serve wine or coffee during your appointment — a nice bonus.

Beyond the childhood barbershop my father used to take me to growing up, I can’t say I’ve had one place or stylist I consistently go to for my haircut. That is, before I came across The Wineding Shoe and owners, Hayley and Jess. I came here initially because I had a gift certificate for a haircut and scheduled my appointment with Hayley. That was well over a year ago and I keep coming back. If not because it’s nice to have a regular stylist who knows your hair, listens and asks what you want, and knows how to accomplish that; then simply because of the countless compliments I’ve received after a fresh cut from Hayley’s chair.
I think men’s hair in general tends to have a smaller margin of error, with slight mishaps and carelessness clearly visible in the end result. Hayley always offers a mirror to inspect the back of my head when she’s done. There is something to be said about the level of confidence with which I can respectfully decline her offer, knowing and trusting she’s done a stellar job, as always.
As a professional, Hayley uses, carries, and recommends only the best products, hands down. Oh, you need hair product? Loma. Facial and beauty products? Dermalogica. Glass of wine with that? Sure, twist my arm.
So, yes. Everything you’ve heard is true. The Wineding Shoe, Hayley, Jess, and everyone else there are the best you’ll find. Enjoy the hair care, facial and beauty services, great customer service, wine, jewelry, shoes, and everything this place has to offer. But, if you take my appointment slot, I will hunt you down.

This place is amazing! It has a full service hair salon, licensed esthetician – AND WINE for their guests! They even have cute jewelry and clothes to look at while you wait. It is a family-​owned business that generally cares about their customers and invests in their customer experience.
I found the place while I was exploring San Diego (after relocating from Bay Area), and am so happy to have Karen Ableman as my new hair stylist. She understands color, has new «oleplex» technology for fried hair, and does the best dry-​cut in San Diego.
I highly recommend this place!

I was in desperate need for a haircut and I was browsing through the Groupons and found one for this place, with Maria. I read the reviews here, and I decided to check this place out for myself.
My first impression came from just the appointment scheduling itself. I called them to schedule my appointment. Since it was my first time with a Groupon for a service, I had no idea what I was doing. The person who picked up was patient with me and explained what information I needed. She didn’t seem like she was rushing to get the call over with, which I’ve experienced with other salons when I called them for a regular appointment. I did have to call back though after not receiving a call back as I was told, but the person who picked up explained the situation to me so it was no big deal.
It’s a nice, quaint place inside. There’s multiple rooms for them to work in, and they put up some relaxing background music. I got my hair cut by Maria, and she’s awesome. She knows how to do my hair exactly how I wanted it, and knows how to deal with my asian hair. I told her that my hair is annoyingly super straight, which creates a problem for my bangs and also weighs down my hair. She told me what she can try to do to make it less of a problem, and achieves it. She’s really quick too. I have really thick hair, and I have a lot of it, so I know that it’s going to take a while. I was worried that I was going to go over my 2 hour parking limit, but luckily she finished with more than half an hour left to spare.
I would love to come back here, but I am a poor college student, so I will have to keep looking for the Groupons here in order to come back. Luckily I only get my hair cut like once a year, so hopefully there will be another one for this place when the time comes for me to cut my hair again.

Maria did a wonderful job with my cut and color. and she is such a nice person. I like to relax when someone is working on my hair and she didn’t feel the need to keep chatting all the time which I liked.

Such a welcoming, peaceful environment! It felt like I was getting my hair done in the warmth of someone’s home. Right when I walked in I was offered a glass of wine, and my hairdresser was all ready to go right when I got there. no waiting! Katy was very sweet and asked a lot of questions to get the best idea of what I wanted. She explained to me what each product was while she put it into my hair (most were organic), which left my hair super shiny and soft. I definitely recommend Katy and this lovely salon, I’ll be back for sure!

Found this place through their amazing Groupon deal. Figured I would check it out since it had so many great reviews. This salon is super cute and there wasn’t any trouble finding parking. I got a treatment, trimmed my hair about an inch and a half and lightened my hair. Everything came out perfectly and I would most definitely recommend to all of my friends. David you’re amazing thank you!

Karen has been doing my hair for years and always does the best job! I drove 2 hours to see her so she could fix my hair and it turned out fantastic!

I’ve been to this salon three times, and will be back. David Martinez did a great job with my first cut even. As a perfectionist he took longer than I would have liked but I was very happy with my cut and color and booked a return appointment. Unfortunately although I got a reminder he was not at the salon when I went in for the appointment. I ended up being serviced by another stylist who was helping out for the day, and although she was very nice, I didn’t like the haircut or color. Being a new mom with very little free time I was disappointed with this second experience — from David’s seeming nonchalance at missing my appointment to the resulting haircut. After my review both David and the owner Hayley contacted me and offered to re-​do my hair and make things right, which I really appreciated. I had decided not to return to this salon but after talking with the owner I decided to give her a chance. In the end Hayley was able to correct what I didn’t like about the cut and color I received and I walked out with a great haircut with the highlights I wanted. Now, a month later, I’m still happy with the cut which to me is a sign of a good cut (that also grows out well) and look forward to my next appointment.
This is a cute salon that also sells some cute shoes and serves wine.

I saw their deal on groupon and decided to give them a call. The Salon honored the groupon price and I was able to make an appointment next day for a haircut with Maria. She was super friendly and gave me just the perfect haircut. I’ll definitely be coming back for my next cut. Oh and her scalp massage are just amazing.

I went to this salon and got my hair cut and highlighted by karen, she did a great job and I would recommend her to any one male or female, she is great.

I’ve got my haircut and highlights done here. I found this place in Groupon. Karen was my hairstylist. She is a real professional! Karen is a very nice woman. She did everything perfect. Even better than I imagined. I am very happy with my new style and for sure will be back again! Thank you, Karen.
Also they have very comfortable Italian shoes there! I would love to buy, hopefully next time you’ll have my size (7) — high heel.

David hooked it up! My hair was very dead and weighted down. David was able to bring my hair back to life by layering my hair. My hair now has volume and looks healthy! The salon is very chic and cute. I will definitely be back to lighten my hair. Thanks David!

I just got an amazing haircut from David! I first heard about this salon from Groupon which you should definitely check out for some awesome deals.
This was my first visit and David and Hayley (the owner) were very friendly and accommodating. The building can be easily passed (it’s on the left hand side at the corner of 4^th and Brookes) but once you’re inside it is very warm and inviting. They offer beverages and are willing to take the time to understand what we want which we greatly appreciated.
David was able to cut my hair as well as my fiancé’s which was really awesome considering we only made the appointment for one. This was by far the best haircut I have ever received and I look forward to returning.

David was great – very friendly and precise. I love my hair color and cut! It took a long time, but I appreciate the effort he put into my hair. Definitely recommended
Be sure to get there early to find parking in the few spots in front of the salon! Otherwise, the only option is timed street parking.
Im only giving four stars because my highlights were not quite up against my scalp. They looked «grown out» already about a half inch when my hair is pulled back.

WOW. I went here today to get my hair done with David from a groupon I purchased. I’ve been looking for a stylist for awhile now and think I’ve found one! He did an amazing job, I got my hair highlighted and cut. The color looks excellent and so natural which I love. I also purchased some ENJOY products to keep my hair in good shape! I will definitely be coming back to David.
Another plus is that they have parking which is awesome since it can get kind of busy where they are located. Give them a try the prices are reasonable and you leave feeling like you had money well spent!
