Changchup completed his Massage Certification at the head of his class. he is now an Assistant Instructor at one of the country’s top Massage schools, where he also regularly takes continuing-​education courses in order deepen his own practice and share his knowledge with others. a devotee of various Meditation-​Awareness disciplines, he feels his ability to transmute positivity, healing, radiance, and joy is intimately linked to his own realization. he sees his work at the Radiant as a vocation: an opportunity to bring healing into others’ lives on a physical and energetic level, and help them to reconnect with their inherent dignity, strength, sanity, and radiance.

when not in the Studio, Changchup pursues a rigorous weight-​lifting regimen, as well as careers as a singer-​songwriter, actor, and model. he enjoys travel, camping, film, and connecting with nature.

I found this location using the Unilocal reviews and I am so glad I did! The space was warm and relaxing, and offered a sense of calm. The treatment itself was exceptional. Changchup uses various massage techniques and aromatherapy to create a general sense of wellbeing at the end of your treatment! I’ve seen Changchup twice now, and can’t recommend him enough. I have chronic back problems that flare up every so often. I went in the first time to deal with the acute pain, Changchup immediately knew to go at the trigger points and how much pressure to apply. I went again for a follow up and basically was so relaxed I passed out. Great atmosphere and skilled intuitive practitioner.

I have been seeing Changchup for a year now and his informed, intuitive and deeply nurturing massages have been transformational. More than just the practice of massage, Changchup integrates total wellness, including a brief conversation upfront to understand any area, whether physical or psychological, that the client wants to focus on. Not just the best series of massages I’ve ever had, but a year with Changchup has unraveled those persistent shoulder knots and has allowed me to become more calm, patient and focused. I recently had a 90-​minute massage with Changchup. I decided to go with a Structural Integration session, which involved him observing my standing and walking postures, then targeting an area for work.
It was both therapeutic and fascinating. Each time I got off the table to ‘check-​in’ with him, I could feel the corrections taking effect: I felt looser, taller, and more aware of myself. It was great, and I hope to be able to do more of the same with him in he future.
Beyond that, you can quickly tell that Changchup is knowledgeable in a wide range of massage modalities. He takes the time to listens to your needs, and places the treatment in a calm and welcoming environment. And he has something that training cannot provide: keen intuition about the human body.
Whether you choose a straightforward massage (which I’ve also had with Changchup) or the more involved SI session, you are guaranteed an excellent experience while in his skilled hands. You won’t regret it.

His hands are like magic. Very professional and very caring. He contacts me even on days I don’t see him! I’ve had a 60 min massage and a 90 minute massage. If you can afford it go for the 90 min. It gives him the time to work on your entire body. Highly recommended.

If I could give Changchup 6 stars, I would. I have lived in several cities, seen close to 20 different massage therapists, and he is by far the best masseur I’ve been to. He schedules his appointments through text, and he makes an effort to get to know his clients personally and what their massage preferences are. I literally walk out of there every time feeling like I’m floating on a cloud. I would recommend him to anyone.

I’ve been to the Radiant studio many times and only have the most positive feedback. Communication is great, and easy to make an appointment. The massage is delivered in a clean studio in a professional manner with great technique and strong understanding of the musculoskeletal system. I’ve had a variety of modality, ranging from treatment for joint pain to general maintenance. I can’t recommend highly enough!

I reached out to Changchup as I had recently moved to Bushwick and was in need of a massage therapist. Changchup is one of the more talented massage therapists I have been to. His understanding of the musculoskeletal system is excellent. He uses his intuition and experience to guide his work without you having to tell him much. His rates are reasonable for the area and he works with a high level of professionalism. Always on time, accommodates your schedule, and responds quickly to text. I plan on visiting him regularly.

I was pleasantly surprised with the space for Radiant. It’s always a toss up when you go to a business out of someone’s home. I found the space to be as clean and professional as a doctor’s office, but as welcoming as a home. Changchup is obviously very knowledgeable about the practices of massage therapy and structural integration. I have had shoulder and neck issues for years. I have been to physical therapy for my issues multiple times, and I still have issues. After one massage and one structural integration appointment with Changchup, I saw instant results that years of physical therapy did not provide. I am looking forward to continuing treatment with him. He is highly professional and gives his clients individual attention and stays in touch afterwards to see how your body is feeling.

Had my first massage with Changchup today. He was unpretentious, had a warm personality and best of all knew exactly how to deal with the chronic back problems I am plagued with. Since moving to New York 10 months ago, I have struggled to find a massage therapist that actually helped me to any significant degree, but I feel like my search is over now. Changchup didn’t go easy on me pressure-​wise, but that’s exactly what I needed. Plus, it wasn’t so hard that I wasn’t almost asleep by the end! Will be returning in future.

I cannot recommend Changchup enough! He is professional, talented and really goes out of his way to make you feel comfortable — everything I look for in a massage therapist. I went to him with chronic upper back and shoulder pain and in just one hour he managed to work out every tension that had been causing me strife for months. Changchup was amazing. I love deep tissue massage, but I hadn’t gotten one in ages. I called and made an appointment for the next day. Changchup was able to fit me in. When I arrived he was professional and friendly. We spoke for a few minutes about issues I was having, then he dove right in. He was conscientious and intuitive. I couldn’t have hoped for a better experience. The office is intimate, but it doesn’t feel like walking into an apartment. The music, temperature, ambiance and personality of my masseuse immediately put me at ease and it was no struggle to completely relax and get the most from my massage. I made a second appointment right after we finished. Changchup hasn’t seen the last of me! ^^

I don’t know how to describe exactly the kind of experience that I had with Changchup. It was just AMAZING. I’m a person who works super hard but also goes out a lot. I always have a lot of stress and tension all the time. The week before I had a massage from Changchup, I had a super tight schedule with my best friend visiting NYC for the first time. On top of showing her NYC, I had to work and go to school everyday! At the end of the week I was almost dead, so I was really needing relaxation and rest. And this was the best massage I’ve ever had. I had a massage later at night. Although I only slept 5 hours, I had a super deep sleep and woke up without my alarm. I felt great in the morning!!! Super amazing!!! I think Changchup is an expert in healing and massage. I’m so looking forward to a massage from him again!

I normally find body-​workers through referral — this one time I took a chance and tried a Groupon because I really wanted someone local. Plus I’ve been in NYC for 13 years now, and hadn’t settled on one person. Well, my search is over! Since my first session with Changchup, I’ve had about 10 sessions with him and nobody else.
He’ll always do a check-​in to see where you are physically and mentally, and early on establish how deep you want to go, because he can go DEEP if you want him to. And I like it deep. My body is wired for sound, and Changchup knows how to unwind me — right down into the connective tissue. There’s a crucial element of trust you need with a body-​worker: I accept that parts of deep tissue work will be uncomfortable, I know he won’t hurt me, and that there’s a certain level of permission you give mentally that allows the release of tension to happen.
This combination of strength, steadiness, skill and intuition is not easy to find. After my last session with him, where he did some shoulder and hip-​area release, I was walking down the street like I was on the beach in Rio. The swagger is back!

I have been seeing Changchup at the Radiant for a little under 4 months now and I cannot say enough about how amazing his massage is. I am a yoga teacher and I work out in the gym 4 days a week so I REALLY need a good massage from time to time. He is a very intuitive and dynamic massage therapist with a calm and professional demeanor. He is certainly very qualified. Sometime I need more of the deep tissue work done or some structural integration, but other times I just need a soft and healing touch and energy and he is more than capable of doing all of that.
The space is very inviting and relaxing. Plenty of green plants and Changchup goes to great lengths to make sure that I am very comfortable. The massage table is very plush and cushy, and I love his use of heating pads on my back and feet during the winter months especially. He has taken to using different essential oils for aroma therapy and it really ties things together. Love the lavender!
Changchup has a wonderful technique. He really uses the sheet as a tool which I assume helps to eliminate the overuse of massage oil. I hate when a masseur uses too much oil during a massage. I have sensitive skin.
My favorite thing about Changchup is the spiritual connection he creates with me. He often times uses subtle whistling techniques, quiet mantra and always breathing during his massage. He encourages me to breath and make noise if I like something he is doing or if something feels intense. I am a very spiritual person, though I have only come to it quiet recently, and this really helps me. I came to massage and yoga because I needed emotional healing and because I wanted to get back into my body. Changchup has helped me very much with both. Plus he is super cute! I would highly recommend the Radiant to anyone who asks me.

I’ve had three massages with Changchup and very much plan to continue. They are easily the best massages I have ever had. He is an extremely gifted, attentive, and intuitive masseur with a great bedside manner and professional demeanor. I leave sessions relaxed, and even blissful, with noticeable improvements to problem areas. I am quite physically active these days, and this combined with years of sedentary office work and a kyphotic spine have left my muscles in need of much TLC. Changchup’s deep tissue work is seriously effective. He relies on the pre-​massage interview to guide any focused work, and he uses his keen knowledge of the musculature to easily find other tense or tender areas I might not have mentioned and are often related to the original request. The East Williamsburg studio itself is calm and inviting, and the (lower-​priced) massages are worth the ride from Manhattan if you are budget-​conscious. I highly recommend the Radiant!

The space is clean and calming with lots of plants and natural light. Now that its cold out, I really appreciate the added humidity in the space too. Changchup demeanor is very professional, he checks in with you afterwards and gives great advice.
This is SERIOUS deep tissue work. As an athlete, his style is perfect for me and it is intense. His voice is calming and it helps get you through the tougher parts of the body work. He doesn’t seem to have a set routine, instead he uses the pre-​massage interview and his own sense of your body to figure out where to target. He is very good at this and has worked areas that I would have never thought to call out. He’s just a nice guy and a great masseur. I am writing this after my second appointment with him.

Good massage. Terribly unprofessional. After scheduling my second session I get an email from Changup about his cancelation policy. If you cancel a session with less than 24 hours notice you still have to pay for the full session.
The day of my next session Changup cancels on me and asks if we can reschedule. This is about five hours before our session. I ask him if, in lieu of the cancelation policy, does this make the session free? He calls me back and gives me this nonsense about how «keeping my appointments is in my best interest and he rarely ever cancels appointments.»
Rarely? On my first appointment we had originally scheduled it at 2pm. Within an hour of scheduling it he texts me that he can’t do it and asks to reschedule. So «rarely» was both appointments I made with Changup had to be rescheduled. I’d much rather go where I know an appointment means something. Holding your clients to a standard you can’t keep makes you a hypocrite and terribly unprofessional. I would definitely not recommend this place to anybody.

One of the best massages I ever had, and I get massages about once a month since 2008.
I got this deal off of Groupon so I was a bit skeptical at first especially since the studio is out of someone’s home in Bushwick.
Needless to say don’t be alarmed Changchup was super professional and really knew how to make a person feel relaxed and comfortable. So don’t waste another moment with anyone else… It is well worth the travel time (15 minutes on the L train from union square) You will not regret it!

Like some of the other reviewers, I found my way to the Radiant via a Groupon deal, and I am very happy about it. When I walked out of my first massage with Akimbo I felt the way I do after an intense ashtanga yoga practice («yoga stoned» is how I generally describe it… so this was a massage high I guess?). Akimbo is intuitive and PRESENT in every sense of the word. He incorporates meditation techniques and encourages you to be mindful of your breathing, which really helped take me deeper into my body. I have been under a lot of stress lately, and my experience with Akimbo made me realize just how much of it I hold in my upper back. When I walked (or more accurately, floated) out of there I felt like we released some demons out of my tissues, and my yoga practice the next morning was the best it’s been since the stress first started to set in, and has been improving each day since. Overall, a fabulous experience, and I can’t wait for my next massage with Akimbo!

I had a massage here through the Groupon deal and it was a great decision. Akimbo immediately puts you at ease and the massage itself was perfect. He has amazing intuition and knowledge of the body and he knows what spots needed extra attention and delved deeper in releasing knots. Akimbo got right in to all my most tense spots. I felt like a million bucks for a week after. I highly recommend a massage from Akimbo!

This was actually my first massage period. Before getting the massage I was under the impression that he did either a Swedish or a deep tissue not a mix of both. The traveling was fine since I’m right on the L line. When I arrived it was a residential building which to some may be a Lil awkward but it was quiet and Akimbo was VERY pleasant and made me feel comfortable from jump. He explained his work and told me to let him know if I was uncomfortable. Ok as for the massage. On one hand this was my very first massage so I think I will just have to stick to plain olé Swedish. I’d say deep tissue was for a person with way more meat (I’m only 5“1 120 pounds) it was a Lil painful and also my left side was a bit more tense than the right but I don’t think I’d ever get a deep tissue again. On the other hand I honestly thought that as he worked through my body he definitely got some kinks out. My body the next day feels amazing as I thought maybe it would be a Lil sore. He did what he was supposed to do and I feel great. He’s professional and the environment was clean and relaxing. If I was used to that type of massage he’d get 5 stars. Maybe when i master different massages I will return. He’s great ;)

My experience was ok. It was my first time getting a deep tissue massage so I was a bit nervous. Akimbo tried his best to help me relax. He asked me about the areas that I thought he should work on the most. He put on soft music, I actually fell asleep. I’m not used to a deep tissue massage and I don’t think I will get one again. I think I will stick with my Swedish massages with extra pressure or the hot stone massage. I recommend this place, Akimbo is very professional. The reason for 3 ½ stars is the distance. It’s too far to travel for an hour massage. If you live in the area or don’t mind travelling, visit Akimbo. He is very nice.

This was a very thorough experience. The atmosphere was very calming and inviting, as well as Changchup’s demeanor and communication. He is very present, highly professional, and it felt very genuine. The massage itself had a very attentive feel to it, there were no empty gaps… not sure how else to describe it. Being a martial artist, training seriously, i am looking forward to this relaxing experience again when i need it. I highly recommend you give him a try, you wont regret it.
