Balance Point Massage and Bodywork

I don’t know why I haven’t tried acupuncture before. Monica F. is phenomenal, she completely took care of me and listened to my needs. She has a natural ability to tend and care for you and it comes through in her gentle healing touch. I was craving a massage and it satisfied that need my body wanted.
I came to her with many hormonal issues and imbalances my body was going through and she worked on me front and back and it was painless! I felt pressure but never any pain. It’s been a week now since I say her and I’m only progressively getting better. She recommended to start on a weekly appointment then I’ll be spreading them out more often. I completely trust her with her skills.
Try acupuncture! I’ve never been more happy with my decision to treat my body inside out with this holistic treatment. Plus you get a rest while the needles are on you, so you can’t complain about taking a mini nap :)

Dave is amazing!!! I was in SD for a conference and my neck hurt so badly I could barely move my head… the pain was all on the right side and radiated into my right shoulder and up into the right side of my head. I came here only because of all the great reviews and I’m so grateful I did. It was painful at times but definitely worth it, I could feel my tense muscles releasing in his fingers. When I left there my neck was still sore for a few hours, I think probably just the trauma of all the tight muscles being worked on and released, but when I woke up 3 hours later it was literally almost completely gone, like mildly still sore and even that was completely gone by the next day. I went in almost in tears and not being able to move my head and was fixed with one massage. I would go here all the time, so wish I lived closer:/

Went in wanting to get rid of pain in my shoulders. Spent 15min talking through where it was and any other issues.
Walked out feeling better and got rid of the gorilla on my shoulders!

Had a case of pain procrastination and waited until a muscle pull/​strain/​nerve situation was «really bad» before calling for help. This call happened to be on a Saturday as well. I looked online and felt Balance Point was the place I trusted to give immediate results/​relief. However, I called and appointments were booked for the day. Bummed, I resumed my position of laying flat on the floor. About 20 mins later (and still on the floor) David called back and said he would work me in that day. I was so thankful, especially when I arrived and having never requested a Trigger Point Massage (I’m a deep tissue girl) was floored at how immediate the results were. It’s a tricky kind of massage to get and I’m grateful I found someone that was so knowledgeable and walked me through it. If you need relief and want to bypass the «doctor dance» of seeing a primary care physician, who orders x-​rays/​MRI, then gives you pills, (maybe even recommends a surgical procedure), this is the way to go. I will be telling people of how great Trigger Point Massages are AND how great Balance Point (specifically David at Balance Point) to all my future pain fledged or massage-​loving friends.

It hurts so good! Dave really knows how to deeply work out muscle pains and injuries. Incredibly friendly and a clean, well-​kept place, I would recommend Balance Point to anyone.

I came here hoping to speed up the healing process from adding too much mileage the previous week. My IT bands were so tense I could barely navigate stairs, much less run. It was either get a massage, or take a week off running. Unilocalers recommended Balance Point, so there I went!
The trigger point massage itself was excellent. David was able to work out the tension and although I was sore for a few days afterward, my IT bands felt normal again.
My 2-​stars is for David’s lack of professionalism. I don’t mind a casual atmosphere when its respectful and doesn’t detract from what I paid for – the massage. But David was so busy yapping away about how awesome he is, and lecturing me on things in my life that he has MUCH LESS or ZERO experience in, that I felt I was being cheated out of my money. After tip its a dollar per minute… I didn’t come here for counseling. I came here as a serious athlete trying to stay on track with my training. I felt disrespected and that I might have spent my money better elsewhere.
The massage would have been worthwhile and much more healing if he had focused on his job rather than trying to impress me with his life story. There were many moments when he actually stopped massaging to emphasize what he was yapping about. NOT WHAT I PAID FOR! I tried to hint that I’m not in the mood to talk (DUH, its a massage… I’m here to relax!). I also felt awkward since he was already a complete stranger massaging my butt, and I felt like he was hitting on me. He knew I was married (not to mention half his age). Creeper.
David, when in doubt, don’t talk. Stick to what you know (and what customers are paying you for), which is massage, and keep the rest to yourself. You lost my respect.

This place is amazing!!! Deep tissue means really really DEEP tissue! It’s painful at times but by the end you feel like you are on cloud 9. Lets put it this way I’ve always had problems with my posture and after getting a massage there I could actually stand completely straight! Go you won’t regret it!

This place is incredible.
I called and left a half-​anxiety ridden message about a need for not only a massage, but one given by someone with confidence, strength and a knowledge of the body’s physiology. I was called back in less than an hour by the founder, David. We decided upon a date and it was clear: I was going to get exactly the kind of massage I wanted.
Okay, dramatic words aside: the massage was just what I wanted. A deep tissue experience that brought dramatic transformation to long-​held muscle injuries. My shoulder is now on the road to healing, as well as my inner adductors. In the words of David’s own suggested mantra, «I am healing!»
I see a long time relationship building here. So good!!!

I have been to Balance Point 4 times, had 3 different therapists and have received and excellent massage every time! This is not a compliment I hand down easily because I myself have been a massage therapist for over 15 years.

David’s Balance Point Massage is THE BEST massage I’ve ever had. I’ve been having at least 2 massages a month for the last few years. David’s massage is simply divine.
Most massage therapists applies similar pressure throughout the massage and ask periodically if there’s too much pressure.
David asks, too, but he is so experienced that he could feel if his pressure is too much or too little, without me telling him. I could feel the change in pressure at different parts of my body, and I have never felt that great after a massage.
Definitely recommend this signature massage!!!

Don’t be scared off by the trippy, frenetic website! Balance Point is worth every one of the 5 stars I am giving it.
At the end of my first (and regrettably only, thus far) massage at Balance Point, I turned to the therapist, Susan, and told her emphatically that it was «The best massage I have ever received.»
I may be one for hyperbole at times, but this was no exaggeration. The results (i.e. no back and neck pain) lasted for a month, which is amazing given the fact that the month spanned the Thanksgiving and Christmas season and a stressful thesis data collection period. Additionally, she focused on the areas I wanted her to, and she picked up immediately on the fact that I like to chat while getting massaged.
Other pros: They were able to get me in the same day I called, they offer a discount to first-​timers, the rooms are warm, and they seem to genuinely listen to what you want in a massage.
The only con I can think of is that they are located at the top of a rather steep, dark staircase. So, if you need accessibility accommodations, you probably want to ask about that before scheduling.

Balance Point is my preferred massage destination. I started going there 6 years ago when I ran my first marathon. They were sponsors (I think) for LLS-​TNT in San Diego. I think they were a brand new company back then. I used the marathon as an excuse to treat myself to massages but after that was over, I still continued to go to their establishment.
David and his team are professionals and always take care of me. I’m not one to plan my massages a week or a month in advance. Usually when I call in, I want my massage within the same day (who am I kidding — sometimes I ask if they have an availability now :-))and David always does his best to fit me into their schedule.
I’ve received massages from high-​end spas and value spas, but Balance Point will always be my preferred vendor. Price-​wise they are pretty affordable — you get awesome quality and don’t have to ‘break the bank’ doing so. Give them a call and try them out.

I’m fortunate enough to work for a company who has brought in Balance Point (David in particular) on a few occasions for on-​site massage.
My first experience was a short chair massage, which was a nice respite in a busy day. The other two experiences were 25 minute table massages and HOLY COW is that a great way to spend part of your work day.
David was great at applying enough pressure to work through some tension in my shoulders, neck and hamstrings. I felt a million times better than when I walked in.
The best part of all of this was that it was a benefit free to me at work. But after three different experiences, I’d be more than willing to visit and pay out some of my own cashola. Definitely worth the experience.

Today was my first time going here and I was impressed. A friend and I went while she was visiting and it was great to have found Balance Point. David the owner (?) was very personable as was Susan my masseuse. Susan was great and tailored my massage to my specific requests. My friend said David did a great job as well.
Good and comfortable environment. I hope to go again in the future.

I got a massage with David, and he was amazing! This place is not your foo-​foo spa treatment place where some blonde muscular guy named Sven tickles your back and rains you with flower petals. No… this place is specialized in actual therapeutic massages where they pinpoint where your aches and pains are and try to work it out in a physiological manner. If you’re athletic or training for an event, this will probably be one of the best massages you’ll get.
I personally am suffering through shin-​splints and David was able to help massage them out. Yes… it was excruciatingly painful but that was my choice for that type of massage. I wanted to heal. If you opt for a more gentle touch, just tell them and you’ll get it! I bought two signature massages and my boyfriend loved his too (he had Susan). No complaints here.
The crick in my neck is gone. That night after the massage was one of the best nights I have slept. I am definitely going again!

1^st massage is $ 55. Normal price is $ 60. sigh, so wonderful.
I got a massage with Kelly (i think). She worked my shoulder and neck muscles. I had 2 previous massages in past 2 weeks, and couldn’t get the kinks out of my neck. What a wonderful pick me up and what a relief to have my shoulders relaxed again. Ahhh… One of my fav massages so far in SD, and with his price, it looks like a double winner.

What did I miss? This place gets 4.5 stars?
I asked for a deep tissue massage… at best I got a little tickle… I’ve been to cheaper places that come with happy endings…

I must say that I have been very impressed with this place, and the massage practitioners. Believe me, I have had a lot of massages in my little lifetime and worked at a holistic health center where i got to try out a variety of modalities, etc. Antonia is fantastic. One of the best practitioners I have encountered. And when I needed a massage last minute, I got to work with Ron. He was also excellent. I highly recommend it!

Although this place isn’t the most «spa-​like» or luxurious (dark quarters), their therapists are well– trained and listen to your complaints. I’ve been going to Susan for the past year.
I’ve been training for my first ½ marathon. Susan does a lot of deep tissue and sports massage (i.e. stretching). Because I work in front of a computer all day, Susan also focuses on my shoulders, neck, and arms. Any areas that you need work on, they will listen and work with you.
This is not frou-​frou massages with lots of oil and candles. This is technique and really getting into your muscles.

I had a good experience here at Balance Point. Parking can get a little iffy but they do have a back lot to let you into if need be. I found an off-​street spot right on Normal.
I was greeted warmly by Jackie, my masseuse, right when I entered the door. She had me detail what areas I wanted to focus on and what type of massage I was wanting. I had her do a little Swedish mixed with some deep tissue, to get smoothed out a couple knots I had.
Communication was good during my visit and David, the guy with whom I spoke initially, was very prompt in returning my call and setting up an appointment. My my only real problem is that the place can get a little noisy, i.e., the facility is rather small and so you can hear the other staff and clients walking around outside the massage rooms, closing doors, etc.
I used a coupon from the Reader for my first visit. It is a great deal if you are a first-​time client like I was. I would go back and try it again since it is closer to my house than P.B.‘s School of Healing Arts, where I would normally go. Someday I hope they can grow into a larger space, without hardwood floors…
