The Candy Depot

I love the way they label the candy with the brand name so you don’t have to play a guessing game in case you prefer one brand of gummy over another. Everything is very clean and well-​organized, and their little sour belt kebabs during Taste of Hillcrest were wonderful!

I LOVE Jelly Bellys. I’ve toured the factory. They were the favor at my wedding. I’ll pass on a hard-​boiled egg or a string cheese to count exactly 33 beans for my 100-​calorie snack. Totally worth it. Arguably, I’m a Jelly Belly expert so heed my advice: DON’T BUY THEM AT THE CANDY DEPOT. An amazing assortment (truly — lots of flavors) doesn’t compensate for the very poor quality and high price. They’ve obviously been sitting in bins for a loooong time, as they are hard and dry. At $ 14.99/lb., I expect better. We had a similar experience with the M&Ms we bought for the kids. Next time, I’ll buy online for half the price and twice the quality.

One of the best places in Hillcrest and one of my favorite places in all of San Diego County. The candy here is diverse, sweet, sour, tangy, gummy, AND they have cashews, sodas, gum, chocolate, and cool specialty gifts. Plus they reward you with a Punch Card!

The Depot is by far the best bin candy place in town. It is perfectly located below the landmark too which makes movie nights awesome every time. The selection is vast and the sours are fresh and pungent.

My friend and I entered this store so excited to get candy. But it is so pricey compared to other candy stores!!! Left without anything. although they do have a huge variety of candy.

Just when I think I am full from some AYCE sushi from RB Sushi next door, I walk by Candy Depot and realize, there’s always room for «dessert.» Take your pick, friends. There are endless options… chocolate, gummy, sour, toffee, hard, soft, etc, etc.
It’s really no different than the candy stores that I’d beg my mom to take me to when Christmas shopping at the mall as a kid, but slightly smaller. I never see anyone else when I pop in and I’m guessing that being located just outside of the entrance of 24-​Hour Fitness is either the stupidest business idea or the smartest business idea in the world. Either way, they are still in biz. I like to grab boxes of the Harry Potter jelly bean, which literally taste like s#it, mix them with some real Jelly Bellies and pass them out to my friends — oh, the faces they make!
Minus a star for the inflated prices, which is to be expected, but still, $ 11.00 for a tiny bag? I guess you’ve found a sucker for sweets in me!

$ 14.99 per pound for normal candy is wayyy too much. I’d understand if it was gourmet chocolates or something, but candy corn and jelly beans?! Plus, there were no prices listed anywhere, so I didn’t know the damage until checkout. The candy was stale and the customer service was poor.

This is the most expensive place per value of item I have ever been to in my whole life!!!

Cute little place to get your sugar fix in the gayborhood. It’s about $ 13 per pound but they have a decent selection. They have saltwater taffy, jelly beans, gummies and even an M&M machine! They also have chocolates. It can be pretty overwhelming if you have a sweet tooth.
I got the two chocolate bombs — espresso and Grand Marnier. Both were very good and I would love to try their other flavors. My partner got saltwater taffy, Pop Rocks and chocolate-​covered gummy bears. It was my first time having chocolate-​covered gummy bears. They were gooood!!!

The candy is a little expensive, but there is a good variety, and you can get your parking validated. $ 3 purchase to get your parking validated (which is a ¼ of a lb.)
The pineapple gummy bears were so flavorful and delicious. We also got some sour peach rings, Swedish Fish, and some sour apple gummies. The sour apple gummies were not very sour, and had a strange inner texture.

I use to love coming here as a kid.
I decided to come back and the lady working was sitting on the floor, refilling the candy bins and did not even say hello.
I went straight for a box of jelly beans and held it while loading candy in my bag. While searching for candy I am getting death stares from the lady working. I don’t know what it was, did she think I was going to steal a $ 6 box of jelly beans? It made me so uncomfortable. She still sat there while I was trying to get to a certain candy and she would not move. Ridiculous.
Please note candy depot, you are the only store that sells candy. So hire nice employees so people want to come back.

As an adult, I can’t go trick or treating so I headed to the nearest candy shoppe for a delicious treat. Only to find the doors locked at 1:40pm on a Thursday with no «will return» sign and not a soul in sight! That’s dumb.

Very clean and nice place. the lady that was working was very friendly and informed me that they restock on my fave chocolate at least every week. which is a plus for them since its hard for me to find them.

I am a fan of caramels of all kinds as well as milk chocolates and sweetnsour candies. My favorite candies are Sweet Tarts (all sizes and forms), Spree, Grapefruit chews– white and pink, pixie sticks, fun-​dip, you get the picture– any powdered tart sugary substance has the same effect on me as cocaine does on others.
Well, the selection is very good, and I was curious about the «hellish» caramels, and I asked the old lady who worked there if they were spicy. She shrugged, said she had no idea and told me to taste one. Very tasty, and I put one in the bag. Then I happened to ask if this was her store, and she said no, she just worked there. Mistake #1. Then I asked her if I could sample another chocolate and she got a bit testy about it. Mistake #2. I ended up taking just a little nibble for the taste and putting the rest in the bag to pay for it because I’m a guilty shameful sucker like that. You might call that Mistake #3…
If I ever go back, I hope she’s not there.
Also, she never offered to validate my parking.

Very expensive candy, but you get exactly what you want, and not that you would sneak it into the theater, but if you did, you would find the bag crinkles very loudly.

We had a great visit here.
Went for chocolate covered gummy bears, my husband is addicted I swear! After reading reviews we were both slightly apprehensive. But the girl working the store was pleasant, very helpful and funny. We literally cleaned her out of all CCGB. And the price? To be honest it was average. He got just over a pound and it was something like $ 16.00.
Store was clean, great service and my husband got his fix.
No complaints here.

I will never patronize this establishment again. Sign says they validate parking… I go in, buy chocolates, go to pay w/​visa & there’s a $ 5 minimum, then after buying the chocolates I ask to validate my parking ticket and was told by the clerk there’s a $ 3 minimum for validation? What!!! I would have bought more, but with stipulations like that, I won’t be spending my money in there anymore.

Cute little shop, but the prices of the bulk candy are absolutely ridiculous. I’m not a big candy eater, so I can’t get too excited about anything in this shop. Oh, and when my friends and I came in here the other day, nobody was at the register, or even in the room. I guess I should have tried some «free samples!»

It’s open until 10/10:15, depending on traffic! haha. That’s what the worker told us. This place has a huge selection of Jelly Bellies! They had every flavor of JBs I wanted plus lots more. The JBs were pretty fresh too!
Other than that, they had a good variety of other candies. The highlight was gummies made to look like sunny side up eggs. They also had some interesting chocolates in a case up front.
Prices were a little high, but that was to be expected. I think it was like $ 11/​lb for the JBs at least.

This place is VERY small, but it’s just a more expensive version of Sweet Factory, except this place sells the old fashion candy. Candy I haven’t seen since I was a little girl running after an ice cream truck. They sell those candied ciggarettes there, and delicious salt water taffy!
I really enjoy the selection of their salt water taffy too, I came here a lot of my friends because we were doing our externship in the hospital right next to the store, so it was very convenient for us when we needed the sugar rush!
