I started out at Pizza Nova in Solana Beach … and then at this now-closed one when going to the movies — and when at airport, I do the one at Point Loma. Lucky me, Pizza Nova opened near my home in San Marcos — so I am a happy camper! I love the lobster bisque and usually have that delight and love the Mary Lou salad. Some sourdough bread and butter and this lover of food is happy! Sad, however, to just now find out that Hillcrest closed. They didn’t even ask me.
Well, there are still 3 that I can frequent often!

So this particular location is closing down due to high rent. There are several other locations though! The one in Point Loma is nice looking. I went here as a last minute choice on my birthday because all the damn sushi places were so crowded –(and we were starving!) on a THURSDAY! I believe that for pizza, it’s pretty over priced. My group ordered Pepperoni, The Works, and a Gluten-Free BBQ Chicken pizza. They have two different sizes. It was just pizza so I can’t say it was Grreeatt and I can’t say it was bad. It was regular. The only cool part was the complimentary bread! — it was delicious Parking would have been comped in the downstairs parking lot if they weren’t closing down which was unfortunate…

Well, it appears this location is closing soon — they stopped accepting gift cards and coupons, and now they have stopped validating parking. I’ve been going to this location for nearly 15 years and it’s always been great — up until the last month or so. The food is the same, but the customer service is missing! Cheers!

I ate at the Pizza Nova in Point Loma(I think?) — a few years back, and I remember enjoying it, as did the rest of my family. My friends and I have been known to order delivery from this location — and from the folks on the phone to the delivery guy to, of course, the FOOD — it’s all really, really good. My favorites include the Lobster Bisque and the Angel Hair Pasta with Tomato and Basil(add on the shrimp and the goat cheese — totally worth it!) — I even eat the garlic balls, even though I have somewhat of a garlic allergy/intolerance. Seriously. I’ll suffer for this food! I don’t love the pizza, but I like it. It’s really their pastas, soups, salads, etc. that make this place fantastic. It’s also a little on the pricey side, but for the occasional lazy-night-let’s-get-delivery splurge — it’s worth it!

Staff is alway friendly, restocking on water and bread. The food is always flavorful, especially my all time favorite Chicken Tequila Fettucini. Goos job. I have been visiting both locations in Hillcrest and Harbor Drive. Both I can recommend highly…

I still love Pizza Nova’s white pizza. In fact, it might be my favorite white pizza in San Diego, or anywhere even. A lot of the salads are delicious, too. I especially like the Marylou’s salad(without the peppers, bleh). Pizza Nova is an easy go-to for a delicious, solid white pizza and salad. We usually go to the Pt. Loma location(even though we live within 2 miles of the Hillcrest one). It’s less crowded, easier parking lot, and right on the water! Both locations are great, though.

Dear Pizza Nova: Oh how I love thee… let me count the ways… The food is amazing here. The lobster bisque is completely amaze-balls, with huge chunks of lobster and a creamy broth. Dip one of those amazing garlic rolls in it and OMG I’m in heaven! The meat lasagna is also fantastic… the wraps are huge and delicious. Throw in that amazing ajioli and I’m sold. If you sit on the back patio, you can get wifi from the mall. The only cautions I would give is that if you are getting delivery… order in advance(it takes forever) and don’t order pasta, because it will arrive dry and rubbery. I also wish they had more«side» options for their sandwiches and wraps. Pasta salad and chips? Really? Can we not throw in some fries or something?

Oh holy jeebers do I love this local chain. So much I could probably just repost this review on every one of their locations listed on Unilocal. But since the Hillcrest location is where I frequent the most, they get the review. There is nothing better in this world then the Tequila Pasta dish. I have more than slightly inappropriate dreams about this meal. I get it without the gross onion and veggies and I sub meatballs for the chicken(I don’t do poultry) and it is to DIE for. Literally. In your seat. Right there. Even my chicken loving friends have admitted that the meatballs make the dish. Oh, and don’t get started on the little balls of doughy goodness they bring before your meal. I also enjoyed the white pepperoni pizza. but mostly because someone awesome decided this pizza should have dollops of ricotta all over it. Which is basically the best. From what I’ve heard from my friends who get other stuff here, I’m pretty sure you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu.

Gosh I love me some Pizza Nova! I usually get their house salad and pizza special. It is soo good! The house salad is the BOMB and one of the main reasons why I go there. Their chicken and shrimp wrap is also pretty tasty. The waiters are friendly and everything comes out pretty quick. During the day you can find parking directly in the front. but you have to pay the meters. They do have underground parking which can be validated after dining.

Ever since I moved to San Diego I’ve been craving some gooodd pizza. After ordering from a bunch of places and being less than satisfied, my family was in town and we decided to try Pizza Nova out. My sister and I ordered the Pepperoni White Pizza and the Fettuccine Alfredo. My mom ordered the Pesto Pasta. The pasta was DEE-lish. The sauce wasn’t too heavy. The pizza too was delicious. It was a little on the oily side but the flavor was rich and tasty! After dinner, my dad picked up some candy at the candy shop next door and my sister and I ran across the street to check out the sale at Urban Outfitters. GREAT night, great food.

Waitress was nice, although she dropped a fork on me when she was picking up our plates. Food came out fast, and it was yum. The artichoke dip was one of the best I’ve had.

Review is based only on the dish I ate. May not be an indication of other things on the menu. Dinner on a Tuesday night around 6 pm. Chicken Marsala w/mashed potatoes. Both the chicken and the marsala sauce(with sliced bellas and onions) were quite bland. The Marsala sauce was watery(yeah, it tasted as if it were watered down). Confusing. Where’s the flavor? Also, the garlic rolls i read a good deal about from other Unilocalers were hard and a chore to chew. sort of a bummer. Next time i’ll stick with the pizza or a pasta dish.

We didn’t feel like venturing out for dinner last night and I really didn’t want my love to have to cook. We hopped on the phone and ordered from Pizza Nova! Overall it was ok. I’m dinging a couple of stars for a few reasons. Deliver should never take more than an hour. Yes she told me up front and yes it is a Friday. BUT all the more reason to have more drivers. The driver was very friendly though. I felt it was a little pricey for the quality. It wasn’t outrageous but over $ 40 for one pizza, a side of mac and cheese and dessert(ya that’s right… we’re on a lo carb diet) I did enjoy the pizza, it was the pepperoni whit pizza. The mac and cheese was nothing to right home about. It needed more flavor. The dessert was tiramisu. I thought it was good, but then again give me a little Debbie and I’m happy. The bf said it was dry and I take his word for it… He’s a tiramisu expert.(you would not be able to tell this by his smokin’ hot slim figure) — P. S. I’m so lucky!!! ANYWAY… back to the pizza joint. Overall it was just an ok experience. Not bad just not more than 3 stars.

I work in the same plaza as Pizza Nova and always heard co-workers talk about these huge and amazing wraps so I gave it a try a few months ago… called in my order and was momentarily disappointed to learn that they only had 2 choices of wraps but went ahead and placed my order anyways. I went over, paid the 10 or so dollars and thought okay this better be good… and it sure was! They are delicious! I was hooked from the first bite. I have been back a few times since then, even ate there once which proved how fabulous their service is as I only get half an hour lunch breaks and was able to sit down and enjoy my meal with a few minutes to spare. A+

Hey, I’m always down for a free lunch. My boss has taken us to Pizza Nova about 4 times now. It’s walking distance from the office and usually not too many people there at lunch time. I usually order the lunch special which is their house salad and your choice of pizza for $ 8.95. I like the Thai chicken pizza… it’s good but the jewel in their crown for this place is definitely their garlic bread balls. These things are redonkulus! Garlicky parmaseany cheesy goodness! Try and only eat one… I dare you.

Between a group of four, we shared a chopped salad, 14″ Works pizza and portobello & asparagus fettuccine. The salad was my favorite part of the meal. The pizza wasn’t at all special and we thought it was on the salty side. The pasta was hearty, but again it was just okay. All of the dishes were fairly big portions and we were all full after we were finished. Thankfully the restaurant’s two hour parking garage validation will give you some time to walk it off… or find some dessert.

I came here with a group of my med school friends, the service was ok, the food seemed ok too, but the prices for me were a bit too expensive and the amount you get wasn’t that great… the lunch special on the salad and pizza is the best choice!

I just went here for the first time today for lunch, and was pleasantly suprised by the food. Their lunch specials(pizza and salad or pasta and salad) were very reasonably priced and the quantity of food was over and above what I require for my midday meal. I had the BBQ Chicken pizza and upgraded to a greek salad from the house salad that comes with it(A house salad that includes apples and walnuts, what? Awesome.) The greek salad was so yum and the BBQ Chicken pizza was pretty good, too. I’m pretty sure I’ll be back. Oh, and those garlic balls were awesome. I had 3 or 4, I just couldn’t help myself. So good, especially if you like bread.

I’m really torn on these guys. I’ve had great experiences in their restaurant, and pretty mediocre(or bad) experiences with their delivery process. They also do a great service to the community by giving a portion of their profits to schools when the school signs up for a month-long«Dine at Pizza Nova» fundraiser. This said, I strongly recommend eating in the restaurant(and when they’re not so busy) – you might be taking your chances when you have something delivered. Their lobster bisque, was better than almost any other restaurant’s in San Diego the last time I tried it, and is sublimely creamy and addictive(although the chef at Bite in Hillcrest does a slightly better rendition of this soup, replete with vanilla). The gorgonzola pear pizza is something good enough to order multiple times, although if you think the whole thing will be hot, you might be disappointed. It’s actually a salad that you eat on top of a separate pizza, and the combination of gorgonzola, pears, and carmelized walnuts is incredible(although a little arugula in the salad might perfectly round out the nuttiness). You have to give them points both for creativity and willingness to take risks for this menu item. The portobello and pancetta pizza with black truffle oil is brilliant in concept, but the execution needs to be refined, as it tends to be too salty. Using less pancetta, or less parmesan proportional to the fontina might accomplish this task. I would also put more carmelized onions on it to cut through the salt. You probably don’t need to eat this if you have high blood pressure, but you only live once. If this pizza was done absolutely right, it might genuinely be one of the best flavor combinations for a pie ever conceived. The thin crusts of their pizzas are also excellent and made with a high-gluten flour that rises perfectly and reminds me of a better version of what Bronx was doing back when they were using reverse-osmosis purified water to make their crusts(those with gluten allergies should beware). The white dinner rolls that you can order with your meal are probably made of this same flour, and have many addictive qualities, like their lobster bisque. They come out buttered all over, sprinkled with large-grained salt, a dusting of garlic, and a subtle hint of an unrecognizable herb or two, which is probably rosemary and/or basil. You will unconsciously eat these by the fistful until you explode, dying in a nirvana-like state of eternal bliss. Having something delivered by them is a different animal altogether. My pizzas have usually been late(I’ve waited for two hours before) and cold, and when I call them to ask what’s going on with the delivery, I am usually treated in a very brusque manner by the people answering the phone. This might be due to the fact that I order in on the nights that they are very busy, but they do need to be less edgy about dealing with customer concerns. After ordering rolls, I’ve even had stale sourdough delivered, without them calling me to warn me about it. True, they are completely willing to replace any item you are dissatisfied with, but who really needs two cold pizzas?

It was this past Monday and it was cold. He: Pizza Nova? Me jus shaking my head yes! Host/server/bartender/busperson: Just two? Me: Yes, can we sit outside? HSBB:(bewildered) uuhhhh, yeah… Me: I’m just kidding… it’s too cold. This place is interesting to watch people. IT’S JUSTPIZZA! Two words: Garlic Balls That is the best way to describe them. I wonder if one of the deciding factors was to open this shop in Hillcrest. Sometimes you can fit one in your mouth… We usually split an order of the linguine with pesto and sundried tomatoes and a 10″ Thai chicken pizza. Today we also ordered the house salad which came with cranberries, carmelized walnuts, gorgonzola cheese and tossed in a apple cider vinaigrette. I would probably order the larger salad next time as a meal. It’s a great combination of flavors. The only problem is that their iced tea is weak. I mean, it’s either watered down or made with small tea bags. The service was very pleasant. The guy was the only one working and managed to keep an eye on all his tables while keeping a cheerful attitude. I’ve had their fettucine with chicken and mushrooms, which is a favorite of mine. It’s sort of like a chicken marsala, but the sauce is made with garlic and cream. But the partner is not a mushroom fan, so I can never order it, unless I’m a selfish little shit and order it anyway and not share. We’ve never done the desserts because they seem ordinary. It is a pleasant atmosphere, and comfortable enough for those heterosexuals that wander in. Sometimes I wonder if they’ve ever ventured out of their comfort zones. I’m sure I’d never see them down at La Posta on Washington.
