The Art of Shaving

First, I love these products for my husband. The sandalwood smells amazing and not overly like cologne! I decided to treat my husband for his 30^th birthday and father’s day, and am so impressed with the service of this location! Not only was Rick super knowledgeable and friendly but when I found the product elsewhere to save my self a few bucks he was so sweet about price matching for me! He was even concerned about being able to help out with that since he knew I was just passing through SD!
If I lived closer I would definitely come back!

I give this business a ³⁄₅ only due to the prices. The staff is extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful and the sore presentation is impeccable. However, for a one-​week trial supply of three of their products you will be out $ 30; the razor I purchased there for $ 60, I later saw on Amazon for $ 20; and the 10-​pack of razors I bought for $ 14, can be found for ½ that if you just take the time to look around. Customer service here is amazing, and you pay for it.

Pete was very helpful, welcoming, thorough and knowledgeable. He offered great demos and zero pressure. Made for an excellent experience. Highly recommend the place and their product!

Grooming’s not just for girls. Real men have always known that.
Well informed staff assist visitors who are shopping for their own or for their special loved ones’ shaving accessories and products. This little boutique shows off like a jewelry store. In fact, much of the inventory competes with good jewelry prices.
However, I was in search of a shaving brush. Low brow horse hair or squirrel is not here. Rather, badger populations that are thinned by Chinese hunters are trimmed for soft hairs which are then tied and tufted for ergonomically right brushes.
Before you go all PETA on me, across the plaza there is another booming business in brushes — for ladies, though — called MAC. Their mink line is priced way higher (by hair volume) than the three options for Badger brush here.

Just got my son & husband gifts there & the service was great! The gentleman that helped me was knowledgeable & super friendly. He packaged everything up in a gift box & even wiped all the fingerprints off the shiny box so it looked extra nice! Can’t wait to give my two guys their gift. They are very pricey so be prepared to spend a few hundred dollars.

Five guys to help assist you in your shaving needs. Very informative. Descriptive. Helpful. But add to each of those young men an additional guy looking for shaving gear, plus his significant other, and perhaps a child or three. Now that pretty awesome, fairly priced shop has turned into a cramped, over crowded sweat shop not fit for the claustrophobic. Chances that I will return on a slow day are good, but never during any time with more than two customers already in the shop.

Went into the store and picked up a safety razor and small shaving cream kit. It is absolutely amazing. I got helped by Ry and the service was excellent. Showed me everything I needed and gave me helpful tips on how to use a safety razor. The initial cost of the razor is high but worth the investment. I recommend this to all men! Ladies if you want your significant other to have a great shave my wife loves the sandalwood shave kit I got.

Shaving can be a real drag sometimes when you don’t get the results you were hoping for. I have used so many different products since I started shaving about 17 years ago. There hasn’t been many products that I would recommend to anyone, until now. I recently decided to keep a beard. I have done it before in the past, but always found myself shaving it off before letting it fully grow out. I have gone to The Art of Shaving before, but never really took the products seriously. They have really helped me go over what is involved with maintaing my facial hair. I must say that at first everything seems a bit much, but ever since using the pre-​oils, shave cream, and after shave balm my skin has felt great and my beard is looking better than ever. Ask for Dave or Calvin… these guys treat you with great respect! They are patient and they really know their product. They are all about treating the customers right, and I’m all about being good to your patrons! Check it out! You’ll be amazed!

Come join the brotherhood… I have been a member since 2008. I use to go to Aveda for my shaving needs, but they directed me to this place 6 years ago in Fashion Valley. Yeah, at first I thought they were overpriced, but I quickly learned that by using their products, I was getting very close to a $ 50 barber shave every morning I shave.
I began with the starter kit that introduced me to «The 4 Elements of The Perfect Shave.» Well, I was so convinced after I used it just once that I used the coupon that was on the box then to save $ 25 off the Full Size Kit. The Black Pure Badger Shaving Brush included in the Big Kit is much improved over the little badger shaving brush. My girlfriend loves the way my skin feels after my shaves and I receive a lot of compliments on the way I smell, even from strangers!
Personally for me it is like self-​care time I have when I shave in the shower in the mornings to get my skin nice and warm to apply that Pre-​shave oil lubricate to my face. I shave twice with my blades (Gillette Fusion Proglide and another) that I buy elsewhere. My shave ends up being the closest shave that I have ever experienced. It is an enlightening of my senses.
I would highly recommend that you buy the starter kit first, because not only does it introduce you to the system, but also the Pre-​shave oil comes in a spray bottle that if you twist the top with something like soft pliers you will be able to refill that bottle with the oil from the big kit. Really, I have the original bottle that I bought 6 years ago and I use that to dispense the gold richness of that Pre-​shave oil. They really need to include a sprayer for the price we pay for the big bottle of oil, but so far after 6 years, I doubt if they ever will make the glass bottle more functional.

Recently, I went there this past weekend to buy more shaving products. Calvin hooked me up with a killer deal. I saved $ 26. I always buy when there is a sale so that I save money $$$ and build up a little supply, so that I don’t run out. Your rate of usage my vary, but I use more Pre-​Shave Oil, next is Shaving Cream, and last but not least is the After-​Shave Balm. Also, I buy their cologne too all in the Sandalwood scent.
Yes, yes, ohh, yes! Go join the brotherhood, and you’ll never look back to the old way of shaving.

Melissa and Eric Katsaris in Manhattan, New York founded the Art of Shaving, a vintage barbershop for men, in 1996.
The idea of helping men to have a better shaving experience developed out of Melissa Karsaris’ homemade perfume business for women. One day she noticed Eric had shaving irritation. It occurred to Melissa to create a cream product for him. He was so surprised that the cream worked that he sold his BMW and opened their first shaving store on Lexington Avenue in New York City.
They sold the business to Procter & Gamble, owner of the Gillette brand, in 2009.

Pricy but they are super knowledgeable and passionate. You never feel pressured to buy. Its amazing how much there is to shaving… got the hubby his last X-​Mas gift here and it was a hit.

You know this place is actually REALLY COOL. I’ve been debating on and off on buying Anthony something nice from here. And I’ve always been curious to what this place is really about. Obviously it’s about shaving and skincare for men, but there’s more to it.
I went here today with Anthony, after picking up my bracelet from Tiffany. And the only sales associate inside the store was very helpful, and answered all of our (mostly my) questions. He showed us the different brushes used to apply the shaving creams, the fancy razors, and whatnot. Apparently their tubs of shaving cream last about 6 – 8 months! A tube of shaving cream from the grocery store will never hold a candle to that. The Aftershave Balm had a nice texture to it, it felt very moisturizing and felt more like a lotion than a balm. And on top of really nice products, they had really nice scents to them. The Sandalwood one is my favorite for Anthony.
Since it was our first time in the store, he gave Anthony a box with samples to try out. Inside the box were samples of the Pre-​Shave Oil, Unscented Shaving Cream, and Unscented Aftershave Balm. Anthony had work tonight, so he tried it out. He told me he could definitely feel and tell the difference while he was shaving. His face was SO SMOOTH, his face has never felt this smooth after shaving! The Pre-​Shave Oil and Shaving Cream gave him the closest shave ever!
I am definitely buying some stuff for Anthony come Christmas time. I love how his skin looks and feels when he uses these products.

Receive excellent service from Calvin. I had accidentally bought the After Shave with lemon essential oils when my boyfriend prefers the unscented (my mistake). The exchange was quick and easy and I love love love how the products make my man’s skin feel!

We purchased safety straight razor from this store and when we came back for supplies they informed us we needed to go either online or to a local barber supply house. … why sell items you don’t support. … not coming back. …

Some solid products, but most of the staff I’ve come across are less then up on straight razor shaving. When I asked a simple question about the grind of different razors they carry (an important aspect of a straight) the sales person started showing me pictures of the different scales and how cool they were (a more aesthetic part of the razor). He was clearly very limited in knowledge about anything straight razor shaving related, yet tried to give the impression that he knew what he was taking about. That being said, AOS has some fine products (their after shave balm is awesome for dry winter months), but if you’re looking to get into straight razor shaving I wouldn’t buy my razors here.
Caveat: The razors they carry are all fine razors, the staff is just not knowledgable enough in the intricacies of the straight razor shave to guide you on your way to great shaves with them. Ie: factory «honed» does not equal a truly honed shave-​ready blade.

My husband is in the military, so he has to shave a lot. He goes through razors like I’ve never seen, and finally he decided he was tired of spending a ton of money on disposable pieces of plastic. He bought his first safety razor, and an entire set of soaps and lotions, several months ago at another location, and the other day we stopped in here for some replacement blades.
I didn’t catch the name of the man who was working behind the counter, but he was as friendly as could be and really helpful. He knew exactly which blades my husband needed and had several in stock, and he helped us figure out which products my husband’s skin could use. It’s a bit pricey, but nothing we couldn’t afford. Buying online is generally cheaper, but it takes so long to ship to military addresses, so the advantage of shopping elsewhere is really not applicable in our case.

The products that The Art of Shaving sells are top notch. I’ve never had a better shave in my life. I remember that before I tried this place, I was thoroughly convinced that it was a rip off and overpriced for the sake of being overpriced. Not the case. Really smooth products that leave your skin feeling great following a shave. Love it.
My review is definitely more geared towards this location. I usually go to the UTC one because it is closer to my house but I happened to be in Fashion Valley one evening strolling around and I came upon this one and strolled in. I was greeted warmly by «David» and he was the model of an exemplary employee. He was courteous, knowledgeable, and truly enthusiastic about his job. On top of that, he provided me with free samples (without me even asking). From now on, even though it’s bit of a distance from my house, I will definitely come to this location for all my shaving needs. Thanks David!

My husband loves the stuff from this store. I’m aware that it’s probably overpriced, but the scents and quality of the products are really good, so I can justify it. I recently purchased a new silver-​tip badger shaving brush for my husband from the Art of Shaving line, but ended up buying it through Amazon because the price was better.

Gist: great stuff, but *EXTREMELY* overpriced.

(I’ve been using a safety razor for 2 years now, so I’m no novice. And for reals — the difference between a $ 250.00 brush and a $ 30 brush is generally… THE PRICE! Lol. «Oh but it’s just that much better of a shave» he says. «For $ 250?!?» Will it make me look like Brad Pitt after I’m done??? CUZ IF NOT ID RATHER JUST WIPE MY REAR WITH A HUNDO INSTEAD OF BRUSH MY FACE WITH MORE THAN 2!!!
Bottom line: hey I get this is fashion valley (oooohhh, aaaaahhhh) lol, but honestly only come here for information, advice, and maybe a tutorial. Other than that — BUY ANYWHERE ELSE BUT HERE! ANYWHERE lol

Thank god I found this place. Where I live in Las Vegas, they have an «Art of Shaving» everywhere, but here in California they are really hard to find. I had been staying in San Diego for the last two weeks and ran out of pre-​shave oil. Unfortunately, in today’s society you can’t just walk into any department store and buy pre-​shave oil. Ever since the classic old-​school style of straight razor shaving died out, the pre-​shave oil is just no longer in demand. So if you run out of oil, you gotta either order it from Scandinavia or go to an «Art of Shaving» location.
This is a very small store. It’s only about half the size of a regular AOS store. The one thing that stands out is that even though this place is smaller, it has a bigger selection than the larger AOS stores. They have more Straight Razors, more Shavettes, lots of different sizes and style of aftershave, oils, and lather.
The customer service is also very good here. They don’t put too much pressure on you to buy stuff like they do at the AOS at the Venetian. Yet, this location is the top grossing out of all the AOS stores in the world.
I definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants a closer shave, but don’t know how to get there. There is no doubt that the traditional Straight Razor and the Shavettes give you a far superior shave than the Cartridge Razors that you get at any wal-​mart/​target. The only problem is that they take a while to learn how to use. At places like AOS, they can answer all your questions. It’s definitely worth checking this place out.

I’m kicking myself because I can’t remember the guy’s name who helped me out at this store last month when I stopped in to pick up a Christmas present for my favorite boyfriend.
This is the smallest Art of Shaving store I’ve been in (no barber spa at this location), but the salesperson completely over-​exceeded my expectations. He spent almost an hour helping me try to figure out the right products to buy and explaining to me why they’re worth the somewhat extravagant expense.
TOTALLY WORTH IT. My boyfriend loves his new shave kit with badger brush, razor, and stand. Great Christmas gift, in the bag. Score.
