All I have to say is wowwwwww. I usually don’t leave reviews. These guys definitely know what they’re talking about. I recently moved back to San Diego from Florida. I shipped my 2007 Saab 9 – 3. I couldn’t start my car on Thursday out of nowhere. I got a stability control failure, contact dealer. I was terrified at the possible cost of repairs. Especially since Saab is no longer in business and general motors are kinda weird about service for these cars.
I dropped my car off to Mike and his team of knowledgeable certified mechanics. They did a complete computer diagnostics and had to replace a new relay that was causing the car from starting. The quoted price was way cheaper than there price I actually paid. I was in and out less that 2 hours. And a very very happy camper. If you have a Saab, or Volvo take it to Mike. He is honest and more than fair on price and don’t give you Bullshit.
I’m going to get my car serviced here for now on. In fact I’m getting a stage 1 tune for my beloved Saab this Thursday.

I had some issues with the cooling fan unit in my 2003 VW Jetta. Like most people, I looked through Unilocal to find an autoshop with a decent rating. I called Swedish AutoTech about an hour before closing time to see if they could take a look at my car. They happily accepted my untimely situation. They not only fixed the issue within 15 minutes, but they also pointed out some subpar transmission work that I received from a different shop that could’ve some safety issues in the future. I was very pleased with the service I recieved and I’d definitely reccommend this place! Thanks Swedish Auto!

Very disappointed. Brought in my Saab based on other highly positive reviews, but problems remained unfixed and undiagnosed. Didn’t make it back to the interstate before I noticed repairs weren’t made correctly. 3 attempts later, the car still didn’t work/​handle correctly. After nearly $ 3k in repair work, old problems remained and they wanted more $ to fix a problem that wasn’t there when I brought it in. Went somewhere else to get the repairs finished and new problems fixed and the car’s been running like a champ ever since!
Contrary to Swedish Auto Tech’s claims about my prior review, I’m not a competitor, just a disappointed customer from 2014 that felt the need to share my disappointment.

Had several somewhat major things I needed addressed with my ’97 Volvo 850.
Brought into Swedish Auto, and Mike was very good about giving me an accurate estimate of the work needing to be done. He also explained what the problems were so that I understood them well.
All problems were fixed well and the car runs well now.
Will be returning for any future service needs!

This review is long overdue.
I am a new Swedish car enthusiast and if anybody knows owning an older Saab or Volvo is very enjoyable but pricey if things start to malfunction or need replacing… I have a 2000 Volvo S70 and I had gotten multiple codes for the variable valve timing.
Well those codes can mean that the solenoid is out, the timing hub is faulty, the position sensor is faulty or the ECU is faulty or everything in between. I have been racking my brain on this thing because each of those can get pretty pricey if I replace them all. I got a diagnosis from a place that said it might be my timing hub and they wanted to charge me over $ 500. so I started looking for other place that could give me a second opinion. That is when I found SWEDISH AUTO TECH.
Mike told me to bring the car in and he would check it out. I brought the car in and in less than 10 minutes Mike diagnosed the problem as a VVT Solenoid issue… I got the solenoid replaced and I have not had any check engine light, or codes popup.
Mike and his crew are very professional and at the same time feel like old friends you haven’t seen in awhile. It feels good to be able to rely on an honest and friendly mechanic instead of someone that just wants your business. Mike is very knowledgeable and in talking to him I have learned alot of things about Volvo and their maintenance.
I also have a Volvo 850 turbo and I would get oil changes from those $ 19.99 places. The last place that I want to get an oil change from was Jiffy Lube. Jiffy Lube tightened my oil drain plug so much that the washer was flush with the head. I myself and a buddy tried to take it off but with no use that thing seemed like it was welded on. I took my 850 to Mike at Swedish Auto Tech again and literally within 2 minutes Mike had the drain plug out. I swear Mike and his mechanics got awesome Swedish mojo. Thanks Mike for always being honest, reliable, reasonable are very hospitable.

Fairly new to San Diego and needed someone to work on my Saab. I found Mike and Swedish Auto Tech through Unilocal and I am really impressed with them.

This is my very first Unilocal review and I can think of no company more worthy than Swedish Auto Tech to devote my time to review. I have a 2005 Volvo S40 T5 and a 2002 BMW X5 3.0i.
I first brought my Volvo to Mike a couple years ago for an oil change after I purchased it from CarMax. Mike was thoroughly professional from Day 1. He confidently told me about his background, and he shared what he has typically found as potentially problematic with Volvo engines. His insight was well worth the cost of the oil change (which he shared is the «lifeblood» of the engine… his passion for proper vehicle maintenance was remarkable!). I later learned Swedish Auto Tech also handles other European cars so I brought my BMW to him for major engine work when an issue arose. Again, Mike was completely detailed in his diagnosis and patiently explained my various repair options. When the repair took longer than expected (due to parts being delayed… no fault of his), Mike used the downtime to have his crew polish my faded headlamp lenses, as a complete surprise.
I can say without hesitation that Swedish Auto Tech is worth every star in my review, and Mike has earned them by owning a company built on honesty, professionalism, and quality. I completely trust my vehicles to his care.

Couldn’t have found a better independent mechanic. After all the trouble I’ve had in the past with San Diego Volvo it was nice to find this shop. I needed brakes badly and after getting the car diagnosed I was shown all the wear and tear, what needed to be replaced and what will eventually need to be replaced as my car racks up more miles. And they even made a point to show me that a suspension component was going to need to be replaced without up selling me and telling me I needed it done now like the dealership would have told me. Mike the owner is very knowledgeable in Volvo and Saab and will be upfront with you with all the things your car requires. His no nonsense ways and no up sell attitude will make me come back for all my services on my Volvo. I highly recommend Mike and his team to anyone who owns a Volvo or Saab.

I’ve got a V70 T5 that I bought used and wanted to get up to speed on maintenance as it reached and surpassed 150k miles. I found Swedish Auto Tech on here shortly after moving to San Diego and after the first trip realized I wasn’t taking my car anywhere else.
I can’t say enough good things about Mike and the team. He’s upfront with what’s wrong and what it’ll cost to fix it. All work is done in a very timely manner. Everything is explained in a way that people with minimal mechanical knowledge can understand. If an issue is discovered during a repair, Mike will show you what they’ve found and let you know the severity of the problem. If multiple repairs are needed (as was the case with me), he’ll let you know what’s pressing and what can wait.
There’s no upselling and more importantly no corners are cut in terms of using cheap replacement parts. I’ve spent $ 4k+ here and my car is running at its best since I’ve owned it. If you’ve got a Swedish car, don’t bother looking anywhere else; this is where you’ll want to take it. These cars are too expensive to maintain not to take them to someone with the knowledge and experience Mike has. The quality of work is top notch and so are the people.

Amazing place! I have a 2003 SAAB 9 – 5 AERO that I have meticulously maintained for the past 150,000 miles. I just moved to downtown San Diego from Tampa FL. I was worried about being able to find a SAAB specialty shop around. But now I can sleep easy knowing these guys are here. I got an oil change and Mike looked over my car after the 3,600 mile road trip to get here. Everything checked out. I will also be getting my car tuned with a stage 3 kit here in the near future. Its so nice to meet guys that understand the engineering of SAAB. They can do not only great maintenance work but also anything tuning wise. Excited to get my 9 – 5 up to 320 hp here soon. I live in Venice and was driving to San Diego for the weekend when my 2004 Saab 9 – 3 convertible broke down. Mike and his team were great! Mike was honest and got my car fixed very fast. Needed a new clutch and engine mount. He ordered the parts and explained the cost of each item and the labor. Very friendly. Would definitely suggest using Swedish Auto Tech if you live in the San Diego area!

Very knowledgeable helpful staff! Came in with an issue today with a failed evac test, they quickly got my car on the rack and fixed my problem for quickly and did it for free! Then recommended a great smog shop which I received a discount at. All around will return and would recommend to friends!

They know their stuff and they take the time to explain and show you things instead of blindly expect you to pay up. They actually pointed out the area of repairs so I can clearly see what I’m paying for and the need for repair. Overall honest and very knowledgeable service. Quality work fair pricing

Took my Saab here and got partially wrong diagnosis. They said the cassette was malfunctioning although if you know Saab 93 it should have given a code. Long story short, I took it to the other Saab guy on Pacific HWY and no cassette issue was found. He tried to address the issue that was a sensor problem. It partially fixed the problem, I had to drop the car in again and it was all tackled for much less than the price of the cassette. The cassette is like $ 500. I think these guys may be good for Volvos etc. but this time around I got the car fixed elsewhere and saved. The other guy at P HWY charges $ 20 less for diagnosis and seem to be a mostly Saab facility. No bells and whistles but overall reliable and less pricy.

Very happy with Mike and team at Swedish Auto. Just found them on Unilocal after experiencing some issues with my 2003 Saab 9 – 3 convertible. I’d brought it into two or three other shops for various reasons and I thought they were going to bring out the crosses and garlic once the word ‘Saab’ passed my lips. Phrases like ‘you know we’ll never find parts for that’ or ‘it’ll be months before we find them and it’ll be expensive’ or ‘we did the best we could’ were rampant — one shop even said ‘we won’t touch Saab’s…to much work’. Amazing really…
So I Unilocal’d saab and there was swedish auto tech. Brought it in and what a comfort to have someone who actually knew something about Saab’s more than ‘yah — I’ve seen those… are they even in business?’. Mike and team were very pleasant but also knowledgeable and crisp on what was happening after I explained the various symptoms and issues I’d been experiencing. Pricing was very reasonable and the work was done in a timely manner (and it was ready when they said it’d be ready).
I was very impressed with the post mortem he provided after doing a thorough inspection on my car as well. Provided a good and affordable roadmap to maintain, improve the performance and extend the life of my car.
If you have a Saab I’m sure my first paragraph resonates. I’d recommend trying this before going anywhere else. Skaal!

Mike has been consistent in helping me with my car issues since i posted my first review in July. Not only was he able to help me get the most from my insurance company for my Saab 9.5 when i got in an accident, he helped me locate a replacement within a weeks time…;-)
Mike, Jesse and Henry provide great customer service and are never too busy to answer my questions or give me a lift if needed. They also work on Volvo’s, Audi’s and other makes and are always a pleasure to work with.

Took care of my BMW 7 series for hundreds less then the dealership. Its a very small shop, but the owner really takes care of his customers. I would highly recommend this repair shop for all european cars…

Mike was a real person, not just someone getting you through the ropes. I got my 90k complete at Swedish Autotech and my 2005 Saab converti is running like a hoot. (Yes, I agree, what a fun car to have in SD!) Mike took the time to talk to me about the condition of my car. He told me how to take care of certain things and reminded me not to keep my coffee anywhere near my center console ignition key. (Hmm, makes sense).
