Studio 15 Apartments

I did a drive by because I was considering living here, but I didn’t want to stop my car when I saw it. I have never seen so many homeless people camped out on the sidewalk in one location — and I used to live by People’s Park in Berkeley. This was on a Sunday morning. At one point while I was trying to drive away, I turned into this narrow street and there were so many shady looking people down there on either side, that I was afraid to drive by, so I had to back up and take the road around the stadium. One guy was dancing around in circles. You would think that since this location is so close to tourist attractions, that maybe city officials would want it to look cleaned up. But no.

This place has really gone downhill. The studios were nice when new — small but nice. Mgt used to be nice yet firm about rules. Now they are VERY rude and yet rent to anyone with the cash. Security is lax. They allow drug dealers, hookers, and homeless to hang out in front. They fight, yell and urinate on the sidewalk. «No loitering» signs were promised TWO YEARS AGO but are not there. Bed bugs are a problem, but they won’t remove hall or studio carpets despite many suggestions to do so. Laundry machines & laundry room are dirty and 25% of the machines are usually out of order. The rent is cheap, but not worth the problems. It’s a step up from homelessness, but that’s about it.

if i could give a negative score i would!!! this place has false advertising written all over their adds… I went in to check it out and walking towards it there are a lot of scummy types hanging out outside which doesn’t bother me as much as the accumulation of trash all over the front of the building, you walk in the reception/​tour man was a jerk and very rude (high five for bad communication through your superiors) any way walking through the lobby it is run down scuff marks on the wall and little lighting inside… then you get to the elevator an d to the hallway which is absolutely unkempt trash scuff marks and a weird smell to it you get into the shoe box of an apartment and it isn’t to bad except it looks like someone would probably murder you there and the rooms smelt like animal or human I’m not sure piss!!! back to the elevator and down to the lobby the desk man was pretty rude about getting me an application just in case i could get past the fact it looked like a halfway house… then i get outside and pretty sure i got offered an assortment of different drugs! this place either needs to be shut down or rethink their life and get a little bit proud… yea your job might suck but guess what its a job idiots you should want it to look presentable obviously you’ve never done sales! but seriously either get a new staff that might care a little or just shut yourself down and go curl up in a ball and cry!

I didn’t give this complex 5 because of the rif-​raf that hang on the block constantly smoking (so sick of breathing every time I walk by) and hitting on me. (Man, it’s 10am, you’re old and you smell like beer. Gross!)
Other than that… The supposed resident who gave the «filtered» review must have just came from a tricked out condo mommy and daddy paid for or something. Because I’ve lived here going on 2 years now and have had an altogether pleasant experience. The building is brand new. No pest issues so far. Security ²⁴⁄₇ and friendly but haven’t had them overly chatty with me.
The laundry room is actually very nice. Machines break down now and then but they get fixed and I’ve never found them too dirty to use! I just wish it was cheaper than a $ 2 each wash/​load.
The management have never been a problem for me. Only there is like 6 of them which I’ve noticed change fairly often. Weird. Makes me think it’s a shitty place to work or something.
As far as cops go. I see them stop by to deal with the losers out front from time to time. Which is welcome by me. Also, this building is nice but it’s only so many blocks from the slightly sketchy far side of East Village and Barrio Logan so, again I feel better the more I see them around.
That being said I have never felt unsafe in my building or when going to and from walking to the super market. Just sometimes harassed and over exposed to second hand smoke.
Super plus for me: It’s very affordable. It really is a good starter apartment. Also very close to the MTS 12^th and Imperial station in case you don’t have a car. You can also walk anywhere downtown as long as you appreciate exercise.
