I rented the Star of the Sea for my wedding reception on 10÷23÷15. My original plan was to have a small 50 people dinner reception at their restaurant, Anthony’s Fish Grotto. However plans changed exactly 5 weeks before 10÷23÷15 and I was able to rent the Star of the Sea. Let me tell you that both Anthony’s Fish Grotto manager, Valaree Gilmore and the Star of the Seas manager, Janet Cepeda jumped on it and were very flexible, helpful, and accommodating with the last minute changes. They teamed up and were able to help me have a great wedding reception despite the short notice. The food from the Grotto was phenomenal and the service from the Star of the Sea wasn’t anything less. Thanks so much ladies for such great service, prompt response, and patience.

I just had to wedding reception of my dreams at this venue 4÷11÷15. It was the perfect size for 75 guests and the most beautiful waterfront venue. Janet was my go-to and absolutely amazing to work with. Very flexible and experienced in events and what will work for the venue and also making all of it come to life. No need to bring in another caterer, Chef Jay is absolutely amazing, the menu we had literally every guest said it was the best filet & lobster or Sea Bass with crab béarnaise they ever had! The staff did an impeccable job on timing and everything was so fresh and they were always friendly. The way the sun set was perfect for our wedding reception and we had the most romantic sunset– bonus! This venue and Janet really works with you on creating a memorable event. Thank you!

We hosted a baby shower for our aunt this past weekend and I have to say the entire experience was top notch! Janet was amazing to work with, she gave us all of the information we needed about the venue in a timely manner. She’s very gracious and kind. On the event date, we arrived promptly for set up and she was there and was super accommodating. The event staff and bartender were also great during the event! I can not wait to have another occasion so that we can celebrate here as well. The food was exquisite and the price was reasonable for the quality of the experience. You can’t beat the beauty of San Diego, the views at this venue and the friendliness and professionalism of the team!

Amazing experience. I planned an honors banquet for the nonprofit I work for here and it turned out INCREDIBLE. First of all, the venue itself is the most beautiful venue I have ever had the pleasure of hosting an event at. It sits right on the water and right next to the star of India, the historical landmark which once sailed from Great Britain to India and New Zealand. I would recommending hosting your event earlier in the night so that your guests have the opportunity to watch the sunset and take pictures out on the patio. It is truly magnificent. Pictures do not do this place justice. The venue itself inside is big, but not GIANT. We had 104 guests all seated comfortably at 11 tables. There was plenty of room to move around but still close enough so that people could talk between tables. The bar area is fantastic and taking advantage of the bar is a MUST if you’re going to host an event here. The bartenders are smart, quick, and have fantastic customer service skills. Also, its awesome that the bar area is slightly separated from the dining area so it gives guests some time to stand around and mingle before being seated for dinner. Janet was an absolute delight to work with. It was my first time planning a banquet for this group, so it was a little frantic and she was 100% accommodating. She got there early on the day of the event for me so that I could come in and create the centerpieces for the tables. The service, superb. The servers were friendly, smiling, courteous, and honestly better than most restaurants. The food was FANTASTIC. We had given our guests the option of chicken, sirloin, salmon, or vegetarian. If you know anything about running a kitchen, that is a LOT of choices and to get ALL of that out to 104 people at the same time is not easy feat, but they executed seamlessly. Overall, great night and I’m so happy. If you want to host a event at the most beautiful venue ever, Star of the Sea is the place to do it.

Star of the Sea has to be one of the most beautiful venues for weddings. It is small but yet intimate and can accommodate up to 100 or so guests for a wedding. It has one of the best views which is the bay on Harbor Drive. Janet is great to work with and will definitely take care of your needs for any special events or weddings at this venue. I work with weddings and have witness different themes in this venue where it’s astonishingly beautiful and well worked out. I would definitely look into Star of the Sea as a venue if you would like a beautiful view with the sunset and intimate.

Buenos mariscos estiló USA, a buen precio acompañados de una heineken pero lo mejor, la vista al atardecer de la bahía de San Diego, para después bajar la cena caminando por el malecón!

Had our wedding reception here because of the stunning views! But the event planner was complete unorganized. She was always hard to get ahold of, told us we had everything paid for but came out with other surprise charges. She waited till the day of the wedding reception to tell us we were suppose to bring certain supplies, and we constantly had to ask her, «is there anything else we need to know or get?» So if you book this place be prepared to deal with unorganized person. We would have been way under our budget if it wasn’t for all the surprise fees.

Very nice location with beautiful views. Was there for a wedding reception and it was a great location for the event. The staff was helpful. The place was closed just for the reception. The dinners where wonderful, I was able to taste the coconut shrimp and salmon. It is defiantly be on my list of place to return.

Really romantic, intimate atmosphere, pretty view of the water. Good place if you wanna take your date to a more upscale and class type of place. The service is prompt and friendly. The seafood was delicious(specifically the salmon). I was too nervous to try the bone marrow that came on my friend’s plate, but if you’re brave, I say go for it!

If you want to eat nice and cheap sea food right next to water? This is the place you have to visit in San Diego. This place is located right next to water, and food is so tasty and cheap compare to the other seafood restaurant near location. Sometime it is little hard to find the parking spot, so be there little early for no wasting time for parking.

My husband and I came here for a date. It has a very romantic atmosphere. very dim and quiet and of course the beautiful waterfront view. The food was pretty good, nothing outstanding. Our server brought out a fish tartare(sorry, i forgot what kind of fish), that was on the house per the chef’s request. Unfortunately, it was quite disappointing. Anyhow, I found it to be a bit overpriced for the food, but I guess your paying for the view really. which I guess doesn’t matter since they’re closed now.

Great high class fine seafood restaurant. The shellfish was exquisitely fresh, accented perfectly by the lemon juice and the accompaniaments, The chef definately took his time to get to know his ingredients and the care he takes in selecting the pairings definatly come through. The halibut was sweet and firm, and the salmon was cooked perfectly. I agree with Karen, in the sense that the sauces accented the courses, and didn’t drown them out. Great dessert selection also!

This place definitely provides a dramatic range of flavors for the tastebuds. The flavors were very powerful, but not overwhelming. It actually refreshed and awakened my palette. Each food had a very distinct flavor — the chef did not rely on heavy sauces to carry the taste; he actually allowed each ingredient to «express itself». Sounds very corny — but I’m not sure how else to describe it. Needless to say, everyone in my party was extremely impressed with dinner and dessert. We had the oysters, Artisan cheese plate(highly recommended), salmon pastrami, hawaiian snapper(highly recommended), diver scallops(a bit salty), and the halibut(highly recommended). The desserts were even more impressive — we had the chocolate soufflé, which was wonderfully light, and the lavender panna cotta, which really gave the tastebuds a whirl. Very impressed.

i had a bf who took me here on our 1 month anniversary. how crazy is that? it was HIS idea, by the way, to celebrate 1 month of togetherness… but i digress. this place is ROMANTIC and then some. i remember that there were probably only 5 or 6 other tables in the place and we were the youngest people there. food was delicious, and service was impeccable. oh, and i guess they firmly believe in the man paying here because my menu had no prices. only his did. fellas, do yourself a favor and impress that girl you just met by taking her here. she will most def put out sooner than later.
