We are a full service salon and doggie spa that offers the latest in pet skin and coat care. Our goal is to provide a relaxing environment for your pet to be pampered in so everyone leaves our salon happy and healthy.

We also offer Orijens pet food at unbeatable prices as well as an assortment of doggie treats and shampoos. Everything you need to pamper your pet in one, great location!

History

Established in 2009.

Spawtlight Dog Salon and Spa was created with one purpose in mind: To create an safe, fun environment for pets to be papmered in so that they could look and feel their best.

The idea was concieved in 2007 and finally realized in October of 2009, when the remodeling started at this location. We have created a place where pets and owners alike have options. Each groom is based on the individual and customized for the optimal pet comfort and well-​being.

Business Owner

From a very early age, I took care of animals. For the past 16 years, I have worked with various organizations, such as Feral Cat Rescue, US Customs K-​9 units, Lions Tigers and Bears and the Chula Vista city Animal Shelter. My cats, Loki and Daisy, are rescued pets, and so is Zippy, my dog companion. In 2001, I began my dog grooming training under the amazing Kaoru Nakajima, who helped my love of dogs blossom and transform into a love of making dogs look their best. Since then, I have groomed dogs that have appeared in San Diego Magazine, been listed on the «A-​List» of top groomers in San Diego, and have competed in the National Grooming Competition in Las Vegas (2009). In October 2009, I began a remodel project in my new location on 9th and E, realizing my dream of creating a place where I could care and pamper pets. All of the staff here at Spawtlight, including myself, look forward to welcoming existing clients as well as new furry friends into our salon.

I absolutely love Spawlights. Lindsey took such good care of our Bichon Frise, Jake. He always looked amazing and smelled so good! We lived in Carlsbad from downtown and we still drove back to get him groomed. Best groomer ever!

We have been taking our two dogs on a weekly basis for grooming for 3+ years. Lindsey (owner) & staff are absolutely amazing. Consistently caring, professional & so terrific w our four-​legged family! Harmony & Leo (teacup Maltese & cavalier King Charles spaniel) look forward to their Saturday mornings at Spawtlight & they always leave happy & looking/​smelling great! They use the best products on our pups, always take great care of grooming the delicate areas paws, nails, ears & eyes. I trust them explicitly & highly recommend this team of Loving professionals regardless of the breed. Consider making an appointment well in advance … Good news travels fast!

My cockapoo received his best grooming yet at spawtlight. His cost is very even and perfect, and the groomer’s approach to scissor in his face was meticulous and well balanced. For the first time ever, he seemed happy and relaxed when we picked him up. He wasn’t stuck in a kennel, and he didn’t seem nervous or scared. If you care more about giving your dog the best cut and experience vs finding the best deal, Spawtlight is the way to go.

Great cuts, poor customer service… Shame.
We take our dog (small breed) to this hip groomer because the price is about the avg but the attention to detail is impeccable. A big deal for small breeds so that an eye isn’t poked or an ear isn’t accidentally snipped. While I appreciate all those things my concern is over the service. It stinks. The counter people are absolutely dog people and forgot how to speak to humans. In all likelihood that’s why they got into the business (they speak dog and not human).
I drive from Encinitas to downtown just to get this quality haircut for the pooch but will start looking in our area for a groomer that doesn’t snap at the dogs owners.
Additionally, their power went down about two weeks ago and they didn’t notify any of the folks that kept an appointment with them that day. Those that showed up were out of luck. Again, poor communication.
Would get a 1 star if it weren’t for the amazing cuts.
In summary: great quality cut with crummy service. That’s sad because eventually they will close shop and wonder why they have no patrons. It’s the dogs that will see the biggest loss.

After having an incident with my previous groomer I decided to give spawlight a try… let me tell you my maltese has never been happier after getting groomed. The fact that they are super friendly, don’t caged dogs nor put them in front of a giant fan makes me super happy. I’ve used them for maybe 3 years now, and I keep recommending it to friends and family. Great customer service + my dog loves it there.

With regards to dog grooming, they do a good job, but when it comes to face to face contact/​customer service, this place needs improvement.
I’ve taken my golden retriever here twice. The owner both grooms, and works the front desk simultaneously. Perhaps, this is the problem, wearing too many hats, trying to do too much, but both times she was curt, and not helpful.
This place also advertises as «cage free» facility, which is one reason why i decided to give it a go, but when i picked up my dog, she was tethered to the wall, tightly. The leash had very little slack, and was taut once sitting.
A message to the owner: Please invest in a front desk receptionist that way you can focus solely on grooming, or take a class in customer service, and if you’re going to advertise as a cage free facility, maybe include a caveat, explaining that sometimes dogs will be tightly tethered to the wall, but at owners discretion.

Lindsey and her team are amazing! They have been grooming our Poochons (poodle-​bichon mixes) since we got them and our boys love the team at Spawtlight even more than we do!
Lindsey and her team are true professionals and genuinley take pride in their work.
It is also great to know how much our dogs are cared for when we leave them.
Our dogs are our kids and I feel confident that they are in good hands!
If you haven’t tried Spawtlight you are missing out!

I usually take my little guy into Petco’s salon to get his nails and glands done, but thought I’d give Spawtlight a try instead.
Spawtlight’s staff did a great job! My little man came out smelling great and looking handsome!
The prices are pretty good. I paid $ 35 for a bath, nails and glands (with tip included). Usually at Petco I pay about $ 20 for just nails and glands.
Tips:
1) Be prepared to leave your dog for a couple hours: The woman helping me was working with another dog when I came in, so she asked that I leave my pup and come back in 2 hours, which was fine by me. I walked in thinking I was going to stay and wait (like I do at Petco), but dropping him was no trouble at all because I live relatively close by.
2) Make an appointment
3) For parking purposes, I’d recommend going on a Sunday. I found parking pretty easily when picking him up and dropping him off. (I’d imagine it might be a little tougher during the week, depending on what time you go).

Maya had her first appointment today. I live in East Village right in front of Petco Park. It took 15 minutes to walk there and an hour on the walk home. Her new do with her pink berets caught so much attention on the walk home that it seemed like forever to get home. This place is the best!!!

My boyfriend and I took our dog here yesterday for the first time, and we didn’t like it at all.
First off, I felt that the woman who we interacted with wasn’t interested in helping us at all. We asked for some advice, but she completely disregarded our questions.
After we picked up our dog and went home, we noticed that one leg had a bald spot. I called in, and the woman who groomed her said that when she combed out the matting, it left the area without hair. I brush my dog almost daily, and when I take out knots, I have never left a bald spot.
Also, a cotton ball was left in one of her ears, and we didn’t realize it until hours later. It was completely irresponsible of them to not even notice that.
For $ 65, I felt that I should have gotten better service and quality of care. I’ve had a better experience at Petsmart. Spawtlight should have at least apologized for my dissatisfaction. I’m not sure if I just got unlucky with the groomer, but I’m never coming here again.

We’ve taken our dog here a couple times now to get groomed and we are really happy with the service. Aston (our Poddle/​Jack Russell mix) looks great every time! The staff here is also really friendly. Highly recommend using them!

We took our pug here for a bath after finding what looked like a flea near him.
Pros:
They were able to take us in on a Saturday with just 1hr wait time.
They don’t cage the dogs there. They get to run around loose in the store, before/​after their service.
They check the dog’s records, to make sure they’re all up to date on their shots.
Cons:
It was really HOT in there. I felt like the dogs were getting overheated.
My dog came home and has been shaking his ear nonstop. We called back to find out what was going on and she said she cleaned his ear really well, and that it should dry up in an hour. It has been 24 hours and he still won’t stop shaking his ear. I cleaned it with some toilet paper and it was so dirty inside still. Picture is posted for you to see.
We did the herbal flea stuff. On their website it said it was $ 2.50. However, we were charged $ 5 for it. Not a big deal so we didn’t argue about it, but we also did not leave a tip.
Overall, I would not go out of my way to take my dog here. Right now I’m still worried about his ear since it’s been 24 hours and he still keep shaking his head like there’ s something stuck in his ear.

Cosmo (our Bichon Frise) has been going to Lindsay and her team at Spawlight for the past 3 years. We have nothing but good things to say about Spawlight, we always get Cosmo back perfectly the way we ask and it amazes us how attention to detail the team really are. I am not a great reviewer but I am compelled to finally leave a review because I was surprised to see Spawlight has 4.5 stars on Unilocal,it has always been 5 stars!!! So here is my support for our favorite DoggieSalon.
Spawlight is pricey, however it is worth every penny. Even worth the 2 weeks wait for an appointment ;).

Will never return after being a loyal and happy client for over 1 year. We used to go out of our way to drive Downtown from Kensington to have our dog groomed at Spawtlight even though we have about 15 other groomers within a 1 mile radius to choose from.
This last visit was horrible. They screwed up our appointment time, yet blamed us for being late. They are very rude & nasty. The attitude problem needs to go. Allison is great but the 2 girls who work up front are awful.
The grooming was done properly but I cannot justify going back with the approach they carry toward customer service. I have never been treated so poorly. What a shame. Sorry Spawtlight, we won’t be back. I truly wish we could say otherwise because I love your cage free concept and grooming.

I saw Spawtlight had 5 stars so when I decided to have my Baby Button groomed, I called Lindsey.
I got an appointment after the holidays so today is the day at noon. The place is nice and clean. There were two dogs there (a Bichon and another hairy pup) both looking adorable so I had high hopes.
I filled up a sheet of paper with my pets’ info and showed Lindsey the proof of current vaccination. She then asked me about my preference. Afterwards, we left my pet and we were given an estimated pick up time of 3pm.
When we picked up Boy Button, he was so soft, clean and happy to us. Lindsey did an awesome job!!! Boy Button looks adorable!
So happy to finally find a pet groomer who knows her stuff and genuinely cares for the pet. Highly recommended !!! Thanks Lindsey!

I wish I still lived downtown so that I can go to these ladies again. They took such a great care of my sweet baby (Teacup Morkie) and they are CAGE FREE! The doggies hang out in their shop freely while they groom. I think I paid around $ 45 for a full grooming service (bath, cut, nail trim, anal gland expression, ear cleaning). Tooth brushing was a very reasonable price as well. My puppy was always SO happy when I picked her up and I could see she was not distressed, but really enjoyed being at the salon. She always smelled good and I noticed that all the other dogs were well groomed as well. These guys really know what they are doing and I would trust my baby to them again and again!
Oh and at Christmas, they gave me a sweet treat as well– truffle chocolate :)

I have gotten my little shihtzu groomed here a few times. It’s A ok. It’s pretty hard to get an appointment– you have to plan 6 – 8 weeks ahead. Not super nice, just pleasant.
Spawtlight is a little more expensive then a lot of places and they have a tip jar. I decided to stop going here because my dogs ears were not getting done inside– which is important for her breed. I said something after the first time and reminded the second time and am just over it. Obviously she knows what she is doing and has a lot of customers so she won’t miss us. I enjoy the friendly service at PetsMart and I can call and make a same day appointment at PetSmart on a whim.
The items for sale in there are cute– leashes, etc. they take cash or card on the iPhone square thing. Eh…
