Spanish Language Center

This review is long overdue, as I have been a student here for about 1 year.
The owner and great teacher is Luz, who has created an amazing school and great learning system of interactive teaching/​learning with small groups or private lessons at all levels using her own curriculum and workbooks she authored herself. Her enthusiasm is energetic and positive and she is just a fun wonderful woman to be around. My other teacher, Yolanda is equally a terrific teacher with a super nice personality and she offers challenging instruction catered for each students abilities and enforces positive learning. Both Yolanda and Luz are natural teachers that want to help students learn. I love learning from both of these wonderful fun women, yet the school is also highly professional with other teachers as well and pre planned lessons that progress each student with review and learning new things. It’s a fun great place to learn espanol… Muchas Gracias Todos!

Marco and Luz are great people. They always have such wonderful customer service and I loved getting to know them over a course of a year now! I’ve actually used their services for work and they’re always quick to get quotes back to me and quick to provide services.

I’m in my 2^nd year at SDSU and I chose to take lessons here during my winter break so I could get a head start on the spring semester. Having taken three years of Spanish in high school, I had some prior knowledge to work with. I loved how Luz would tailor the lessons to my ability, focusing on relearning vocabulary and conversational skills since the book work was easy for me. She was very positive and encouraging so I always enjoyed my lessons. I also worked with some of the other instructors, they are all very knowledgable and serious about correct pronunciation. The best thing about it for me was learning all the study hacks like visual aids. I feel very well-​equipped for college-​level Spanish.

I’ve been studying with Marco and Luz for almost two years now and I really like the format of the classes and the materials they provide. I take one on one classes and it really beats doing this by cd or by myself in the car or at home. My class is for 1 hour and after work time, which is really convenient. They are located in Mission Valley off Texas street (closest freeway is 8).

I’ve been taking lessons here for about 1 year now. I have learned a lot. All the teachers here are super nice and helpful. I do the private lessons so I am able to go as fast or as slow as I need. I studied Spanish in high school and then many years later took an adult education class in Colorado a few years ago (which was terrible compared to SLC). I have also used books and a couple computer programs (Berlitz and Rosetta Stone). I have found I have had my most success with learning Spanish at SLC. I highly recommend SLC!

Last summer I wanted to make sure my son, going into eighth grade, wouldn’t lose his Spanish. I had taken some lessons with Luz Hutchins, who is a terrific instructor and a very nice person, and so I contacted her about having a class for my son to maintain during the summer. He did so, and when he returned to school, he realized that he had been able to keep up his Spanish and was thus in a much better position than he would have been (and than some other students in his class were). This summer he did the same – and I foresee us doing this every year, and with my younger son too when he starts learning Spanish.
Luz is a wonderful teacher and school director. As my son said, it is obvious that she loves what she does! That is a huge plus with a school like this. My son’s teacher, Marco, is patient and positive, and my son enjoys learning with him. The classes are very well-​structured and the lessons are thorough, but he doesn’t feel pressured because of the encouraging atmosphere.
I recommend SLC for adult learners and for parents who want their children to maintain their Spanish and become fluent comfortably.

I used to work there years ago for a very short period of time. I did the one-​on-​one classes. I loved it. I moved away now but I strongly recommend this school because of the ultra small classes and the methods used.

I have studied Spanish in Spain, Costa Rica and a little in the US. I have been enjoying my classes with Luz for the past two months. Classes with her remind me of the small, private language schools that I attended when I was abroad. I just wish that I could step outside the school and have some tasty churros con chocolate! Luz is clear and easy to understand. I love listening to her talk in Spanish, and she gives good explanations. My family (husband and two elementary aged kids) took a few lessons from her. She was very accommodating to find a style that would work for them. Ultimately they decided Spanish wasn’t for them at this time, but it is their loss, Luz could have made them Spanish speakers!

My husband and I were inspired to study Spanish after a trek through the Inca Trail. We took 11 classes that were taught by Luz and Ruth and it was terrific. The only reason we stopped was because we moved away. The teaching methods they employ are fantastic in helping you to learn and retain new vocabulary and verb conjugation. I also really liked their emphasis on proper pronunciation from day one.
I majored in French and have studied Spanish and Japanese before and this was by far the best and most effective language instruction I have ever received. If my college course work in French had been anything like this Center’s method, I would have been far more successful.

!Sra. Luz es una maestra fantastica! Whether you’ve not spoken Spanish before or feel like you have forgotten everything you learned in school, or even if you are semi-​fluent, Spanish Language Center is a perfect place to broaden your horizons and ENJOY learning something new. My lessons are private so far, but we are moving at lightning speed and even when I feel like I’ve not prepared enough… or I hadn’t had time to study… Luz makes me feel like a brilliant student. Trust me – it’s she, not I. I give this school 5 stars in every regard: professionalism, comfort, and results!

this is a wonderful place to learn and enjoy spanish! luz is a wonderful and accomodating instructor who works with all methods of language instruction – conversation, grammar, workbooks, culture, storytelling – whatever gets a student’s brain to absorb her native language. the school is convenient and affordable.

I absolutely love learning Spanish at this school! I took french through high school and college and did not use it much. I decided to take Spanish to help me in the business world. I found this school through a friend, and fell in love with the school and teachers and the pricing was just right.
I liked the small class (only 2 other people) as well as Luz and Ruth’s hands on and interactive teaching methods. They use a lot of visuals and props during class which truly help to «sink in» the information. I also really enjoy the role plays that we did every class.
They emphasize the review, repeat, review strategy which makes a difference when you learn a language. Instead of learning completely unrelated things every class, all topics build off and incorporate each other. It felt like I was trying to remember adjectives and the days of the week, and all of a sudden I could understand and speak Spanish in a conversation!
I would recommend this class to anyone who wants to learn or better their Spanish.
I am very surprised at how much I learned in such a short period of time. I will definitely be continuing with them.

Spanish Language Center has taken me from a «donde esta el bano?» level spanish speaker, to conversational/​nearly fluent spanish. As a professional, it was very important that I be able to credibly communicate with my clients in Spanish. I now have no problem handling a full client load of Spanish speaking clients very comfortably. I recommend the weekly private classes with Luz and her cast of wonderful instructors. Estoy muy contento con este escuela!!!

I have taken just about every form of Spanish lesson from HS to College and the one on one lessons I received at Spanish Lang Center have by far been the most effective. All the instructors are native speakers with many many years of experience. While they do have a proven lesson plan they are more then willing to accomodate your needs. I needed business/​technical Spanish and they were able to go non-​traditional and help with that. Also when I simply wanted to be able to speak for an hour to practice conversation they were more then happy to do that as well. All you have to do is ask. Highly recommend this school.

Donde estan yo? Donde estan mis pantalones? Quienes son usted? Ay Ay Ay! Do you have any idea what that means? Would you like to? Do you often find yourself speaking LOUDLY with an accent when trying to communicate with Spanish speakers? Then I highly recommend taking classes at the Spanish Language Center.
I take private lessons here once a week and it’s pretty reasonable. You can take group, semi-​private or private lessons. They are great about payment options and all of the instructors are nice, patient and native speakers. My favorite instructors are Ruth or Luz (the owner).
